Welcome to the Summer edition of our ‘What’s On’ at Preston Park Museum & Grounds. In addition to the regular ongoing activities throughout the season, this summer sees a host of new events. Highlights include 1960’s memories of local clubs and theatres in a new exhibition ‘Stars Fell on Stockton’, whilst FolkTastic offers a season of events celebrating a range of traditional and contemporary folk music. With the ever changing range of ParkMade craft taster courses and a jam-packed kids holiday activity programme, Summer 2013 promises days of fun for the whole family.
Exhibitions The Gallery Made with Pride Tuesday 2 April - Sunday 30 June Made with Pride tells the story of furniture in Stockton over three hundred years. Visitors will have the opportunity to see objects from the quirky to the sublime including a chair with an inbuilt trouser press and furniture made for Queen Victoria!
Stars Fell on Stockton Tuesday 16 July - Sunday 15 September Did you know that The Beatles played in Stockton? Or that Mick Jagger got hit by a coin when The Rolling Stones played the Globe? Come and discover the story of Stockton’s clubs and theatres and the world-famous touring acts who played them.

Community Curated Who are the Stockton Brethren? Tuesday 2 April - Sunday 30 June Delve into one of Stockton’s oldest organisations to see how local gentlemen once kept up to date with scientific and social changes and entertained themselves in times gone by.
Stockton & District Motor Club Tuesday 2 July - Sunday 29 September Find out more about Stockton and District Motor Club, which has been active for over 80 years and is still going strong!! The members organise and participate in a number of motoring and social activities, the most popular of which are rallying and karting. Tea & Tango Sunday 9 June • 2.00pm — 4.00pm • £5 per adult (incl refreshments) Calling all dancers, beginners and pro’s! Enjoy an afternoon of dance in the elegant surroundings of the recently restored Music Room. Everyone is welcome, with or without partners. There will be a short interval for tea and cake. THE UNTHANKS: Songs from the Shipyards Friday 14 June Two Performances: 7.15pm & 9.00pm (approx 1hour) • Tickets: £15pp As part of the Festival of the North East, Northumbrian folk-stars The Unthanks perform their latest project: a magical and haunting live soundtrack to director Richard Fenwick's documentary film, 'Songs From The Shipyards'. Blending traditional and contemporary songs together with new material written especially for the show, The Unthanks deliver a deeply moving elegy for a lost industry and the people who worked in it. Bookstart Library Take Over Tuesday 25 June • 1.00pm - 3.00pm Free with normal admission, drop in Stockton Libraries takes over Making a Mess for National Bookstart Week. Come along and celebrate the wonder of Fairytales and get a free book to take home. There will be story time, rhyme time and crafts suitable for under 5’s. This year’s book is the much loved children’s classic, the Ugly Duckling.

Teddy Bear’s Picnic Sunday 18 August • 11.00am - 3.00pm Join us at the museum for a fun filled family event, with something for all kids big and small! Activities include arts and crafts, storyteller, tasty treats, Teddy Bear’s Doctor, trails, Funky Feet and more! Most activities are free with normal admission, some small charges may apply.

Harvest Home Saturday 28 September • 10.00am - 4.00pm Free with normal admission Harvest Home returns for its second year, showcasing the delicious produce from the Walled Kitchen Garden and celebrating the start of the Harvest season with a range of activities and demonstrations. Please note there will be items to purchase on the day.
In the Garden Taste & Compare Keep an eye out around the museum throughout the summer for our pop-up Taster Tables; try old heritage varieties of fruit and vegetables and compare them against new or supermarket varieties on our ‘Gardeners Tally Chart’.
Grow & Share Join us at our regular plant and produce stalls throughout the summer, for an opportunity to buy seasonal heritage fruit and vegetables grown in the Kitchen Garden & Orchard.
Regular Activities Highlights Tours Every Wednesday & Thursday (excl school holidays) 2.00pm (meet at the main desk) Free with normal admission — donations welcome Encounter the highlights of our galleries; from exploring the history of the Grade II listed Hall, to stepping back to 1895 in our Victorian Street. Please note that the tour will visit a number of galleries on different floors of the Museum and involves walking and standing for around 45 minutes. No booking necessary, however spaces are limited.

Home Grown Join us in the F3 Kitchen for a delicious selection of quality food freshly picked and prepared from the Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden. Drop in and sample some seasonal treats and recipes; maybe you can share some of your recipe ideas with us. Behinds the Scenes Tours A fantastic opportunity to peek inside our purpose built collections store and meet a member of the Collections Team as you discover what goes on behind the scenes at the Museum! Making a Mess! Under 5s Club Tuesdays • 1.00pm - 3.00pm Join us each week for messy crafts, stories and play time based on a different theme around the Museum & Garden displays. Fruit and biscuits are available as well as tea and coffee for the grown ups! Please note: Making a Mess! is on every week except 16 & 23 July. Theatre in the Park 2013 Following the success of our open air theatre programmes over the last three years we are pleased to present two more wonderful and exciting productions! So bring your picnics and enjoy another leisurely evening in the relaxing surrounds of the Bandstand Garden.
BABE THE SHEEP-PIG by Dick King-Smith, adapted by David Wood. Thursday 25 July • 6.00pm Dick King-Smith's heart-warming tale of friendship, courage and determination is vividly brought to life by the same creative team behind Illyria's sensational record-breaking 2012 production of The Twits. Suitable for all ages 5+.
As You Like It by William Shakespeare Saturday 17 August • 7.30pm As You Like It is, Shakespeare's ultimate romantic comedy. Its many pearls of wisdom, glittering repartee and gloriously happy ending make this only one of Shakespeare's most popular comedies. For authenticity the production is performed on a stage based on those used by 16th-century touring companies. Through a project funded by the Arts Council England, the Museum has replicated original century old local pottery moulds for use today.

Volunteering Opportunities Here at the Museum and Park we are always pleased to hear from people who would like to get involved in volunteering with us. CREATIVE KIDS Holiday Activity Programme Activities are free with normal admission (unless otherwise stated), however there is a 50p per child suggested donation to help with material costs. Please note: Our children’s workshops are suitable for ages 5+ (unless otherwise stated); younger children are welcome however they will need some help from their adult during the workshop. Children must be accompanied by an adult during their visit and activities. Please be aware that for drop-in workshops, when the session is full, tickets will be issued for the later slots.
