THE STORY BEHIND THE TRIPP TRAPP ® CHAIR We've made over 10 million Tripp Trapp® chairs since 1972, and most of them are still in use. In 1972 when Peter Opsvik's son Tor was two years old, Opsvik discovered that Tor had outgrown his high chair, but there was not a chair available that allowed Tor to sit comfortably at table height with the rest of the family. From this singular observation, Peter Opsvik revolutionized the way we look at high chairs by creating a solution that would give children a comfortable, ergonomic seat at the table.

Frans, 4 months old.

Growing family life:

FINDING A NEW NORMAL Nobody said it was going to be easy, but they wouldn't have it any other way. After a move, a new baby and a major renovation, they know nothing can tear them apart.

M

oving from urban life in the city to the well-established area of Holmenkollen, and having the woods right outside their door, Therese and Rasmus have made a new home for their family, and welcomed the latest member just four months ago. Taking its place on a towering hillside, the new home has panoramic views of Oslo and the surrounding fjord. After purchasing it from Rasmus's sister, the couple moved in last May. 12

S TO K K E ÂŽ 2 01 7

- Therese was at the end of her pregnancy with Frans, so the timing was not ideal to renovate an entire house, Rasmus explains. - But we had to take advantage of this opportunity. This was a project we could make our own. So I started drawing it along with the architecture firm Arkitekturkollektivet, Therese says. How was it renovating a house with your wife, who is an architect? →

Meet the family Therese Mælen Hansen, an architect, and Rasmus Ødegaard, selfemployed, live in the suburban Oslo neighborhood of Holmenkollen with their two sons: Ole, two and a half years old, and Frans, four months old.

Even though it was an investment, we don't mind that our dinner table gets scratches. It shows that we, as a family, have used and enjoyed it. S TO K K E ® 201 7

I feel that great design and great architecture lasts a lifetime, says Therese.

- To renovate with an architect when you have strong opinions puts your relationship to the test. After doing this project together, we know nothing can tear us apart, Rasmus laughs. BECOMING PARENTS

The couple have been together for ten years, and were married on the Swedish island of Koster in the Summer of 2015. Family and friends were invited to spend a weekend with them on the island located an hour and a half drive from Oslo. The couple were engaged three years before they actually got married. The proposal was one of a kind. 14

- I was on vacation with my best friend in New York. One da,y she was very insistent that we walk the Brooklyn Bridge and that I should wear something nice, since she wanted to take lots of pictures. After crossing the bridge, we stopped at a little café on the Brooklyn side. It was a lovely place, full of flowers and plants. When I went out on the terrace, I saw a man sitting with his back turned to me in a tuxedo. I remember thinking that he must have been a businessman making a work call, and that he looked very handsome. It was Rasmus, Therese says with a smile. cabin. Upon arriving in New York, he had jogged around most of the city, looking for the perfect place to propose. - It was a very romantic moment, and I wanted it to be an experience both of us would remember, Rasmus says. MOVING OUT OF THE CITY

Moving out of the city center to a residential area has been a transition. - It is traumatic! Therese laughs. - I love the city. Fortunately, it is only ten minutes away by car and the subway is literally ten meters →

from our house. When we received the opportunity to buy the house from Rasmus´s sister, we couldn’t let that chance go by. We realized that we'd entered a different phase of life by having two kids. Everyday life is much easier here than in our last apartment on the fourth floor in the city. The couple also love having the woods just outside their door, where they spend time exercising and going on family hikes. BECOMING PARENTS AGAIN

How was it becoming a mother for the second time? - It’s very different, easier, of course, since I have experience, but different. Each child has his own

personality. I think we had the most challenges with Ole, our first. With Frans, our second, things have gone more smoothly. Ole was more anxious, and I wasn’t in the best shape after the pregnancy. This time, with Frans, I felt worse during the pregnancy. Has life changed a lot with the arrival of your second child? - It was a huge lifestyle change when we had Ole. Before Ole came into our lives, we only had ourselves to worry about. A child creates a lot of change that you have to get used to. With your second child, you have adapted. Frans naturally fits into our new way of life. What is a typical day like for you? - I am at home with Frans, so Rasmus gets up →

- The house was built in the late 1960s, so we have done a few things to upgrade the house to work for a family living in 2016. We opened up the kitchen to the living room and made a sliding wall separating the living room area from the hallway and bedrooms. The main door is glass, to let in light and connect the environment to the house, Therese explains. She becomes very animated talking about the renovation and architecture, and, even though Rasmus has had a say, he gives her credit for the final result.

Therese draws a parallel to the Tripp Trapp® chair from Stokke®: - I feel that great design and great architecture last a lifetime. I remember the Tripp Trapp® chair from my childhood. Now, years later, that very same chair is still in my life. We keep it at my family’s cabin in the mountains. That is the unique thing about

We have made Ole his own box in the hallway, where he keeps his outerwear, hats and gloves. By having a designated place for your child to put their things, it makes it easy and fun for them to learn to clean up after themselves. Ole helps us to tidy up after meals. He enjoys helping to load and unload the dishwasher. We try to keep most of Ole´s toys in his bedroom, with just a few in the living room and downstairs. From time to time, we change where the toys are kept. This makes old toys feel new again.

A good family life:

I T ' S A L L A B O U T T E A M WO R K After eleven years together, Ida’s and Daniel’s lives fit together like two halves of a whole. The couple are supportive teammates and enjoy working together to raise their daughter, Rikke. Their lives are about to change once more, as Ida is eight months pregnant.

Meet the family Ida Heyerdahl, an interaction designer, and Daniel Wibe Kullblikk, an engineer, are the parents of two and a half year old, Rikke. The couple live in a house in Stabekk, just outside Oslo, and are expecting their second child in five weeks. Today, Rikke's cousin, Astrid is visiting.

24

I

t is dinner time at Ida's and Daniel's house. Their daughter Rikke sits down by the table with her cousin Astrid, who is visiting today. The two little girls are best friends and love spending time together. The family puppy, Maja, is running around the house playing. Ida is pregnant, and in five weeks they will welcome a son to their little family. The couple met when they were 23 years old and began discussing having children once in their thirties. - Compared to many of our friends, we decided to have children quite late, seeing as we have been together for so long. We loved traveling and having the freedom to do whatever we wanted. I think we both held on to that for a very long time, Ida says. A little over two years ago, Ida gave birth to their daughter Rikke. BECOMING PARENTS

What was it like to become a mother? - Having a child is a totally new experience. The love is so unconditional. I had never felt anything like it before, Ida says. Both were surprised as to how fast they felt at ease in their new role as parents. →

"Having a child is a totally new experience. The love is so unconditional. I had never felt anything like it before."

- It is natural to move to a new stage in life when you feel ready. Life becomes much more structured. Every day is more or less like a weekday, due to routines and the stability that a child needs and deserves, Daniel explains. Ida and Daniel are not certain that you ever feel one hundred percent ready to become a parent, but they are happy they waited as long as they did. - You don’t get time off from being a mom or dad. For us, it was very comforting to have been through so much as a couple during all our years together. We have nothing but faith in each other, Daniel says. MATERNITY & PATERNITY LEAVE

How was your maternity leave with Rikke? - There were constantly surprises, and I discovered something new about this little person every day. It was strange when my maternity leave was over, and Daniel began his paternity leave. I had been the one who knew everything about Rikke. When I started working, it took about a week before Daniel became the expert. I think it is so healthy and beneficial for the father to have that time alone with his child. I also think our paternity leave is one of the biggest reasons Norwegian fathers are as involved as they are, Ida explains. How was it for you Daniel? I clearly remember that first day when Ida walked out the door, and I was all by myself. It felt strange to all of a sudden have sole responsibility for Rikke the entire day. But, at the same time, it was the most natural thing in the world. Since having Rikke, the couple have developed a system based on cooperation. Both participate equally. They do not want to get too caught up in a rigid set of rules, but continually communicate in order to ensure that the day is optimal for the two of them. →

Rikke prepares a sandwich for her cousin Astrid.

- Usually one of us takes Rikke to daycare, and the other one picks her up. Both of us work with different projects, so depending on them, we adjust. We have always shared responsibilities without having to discuss every little thing, Ida says. In addition to working full-time, Daniel also studies. - When Daniel is studying for exams, I do what I can to make sure he has time to read. When he finishes his exams, he takes on a bit more of the responsibility for a while. So no timetable with dates and set deadlines? - I think we are flexible and responsive to each other’s needs. That works for us. We don’t need a timetable to tell who does what every single day of the week, Daniel says. MOVING AND MAKING THEIR NEW HOME

"We like sitting together by the fire and beading together. It is wonderful to do things I did in my own childhood again with her." 28

S TO K K E ® 2 01 7

The couple have not yet gotten everything in order in their new house, since they recently moved in. They share an interest for interior and antiques. - We have a table we found at the barn where Daniel’s parents live. We love pieces with humor, or that are historic. We like to mix old pieces with new ones, and love design classics like the Oslo-lamp, Ida says. Since having Rikke, several Stokke® products have made their way into the family´s home, such as strollers, chairs, baths and carriers. Do they simplify your life in any way? - We’ve never had a bathtub, so the Stokke® Flexibath® is ingenious, Daniel says. Both feel their style is simple and Scandinavian. The Stokke® Steps™ chair blends beautifully with their dining table and chairs designed by Hans J. Wegner. What is special with the Stokke® products? - We love the idea that no product does just one thing. The bed can be adjusted as the child grows, and the changing table can be converted to a desk. We appreciate pieces that last when it comes to how we decorate our home, Ida says. The couple moved out of the city long before Rikke came into their life. Why did you decide to move out of the city? - It was our dog that made us move, Daniel jokes. They made the decision to move out of the city to have easier access to nature and wanted a garden. fond of suburban life. The house in Stabekk is their second house in Bærum, a suburb, which neighbors Oslo. - We went from going out for coffee to going out to trim the hedges and have a chat with the neighbor, Daniel says with a laugh. A TYPICAL DAY FOR THE LITTLE FAMILY

What does a typical day look like in the Norwegian suburbs? - It starts with a roar from Rikke. She announces that she is awake around six. Daniel usually makes tea and breakfast. Depending on who needs to be

at work first, we decide who takes Rikke to daycare. They serve breakfast at her daycare if she is there before eight o’clock, which makes our mornings a lot easier. One of us goes to the supermarket after work, and the other one picks Rikke up. We love picking her up from daycare, as it is one of the best moments of our day. She is so happy to see us, and so eager to tell us all about her day, Ida says. They want dinnertime to be spent together and prefer to get some extra work done later in the evenings so that the three of them can have dinner as a family. Rikke likes helping with dinner, but her favorite activity right now is beading. →

Bes t everyday tips: Let your child participate in grown-up up activities to help build motor skills and encourage involvement. Doing so may take longer and create more of a mess, but it is also a lovely way to bond with your child. Although this wouldn´t be considered an everyday tip, consider booking an apartment via Airbnb when you go on vacation. We went to Madrid, and the apartment was fully furnished and even included a Stokke® Sleepi™ Mini crib in the kids' bedroom.

When it comes to decorating our home, we appreciate pieces that last.

32

- Rikke loves beading, and, now that fall has arrived, we like sitting together by the fire and beading together. It is wonderful to do things I did during my own childhood again with her. The family spends a lot of time in the forest and mountains, going on hikes to hunt for mushrooms. What is your favorite thing to do together? - We love winter, especially going skiing and sledding down slopes. Rikke is already a fan of these activities too, Daniel says. - We just love being with each other, not that much has to happen for us to be happy, Ida jumps in.

WELCOMING THE NEW BABY

The family is getting ready to welcome a new son, and Rikke is ready to become a big sister. - We will have to see if we’ll have more children after this. I have always said I wanted four. We will see how it goes with our son when he arrives, Ida says. Daniel has a slightly more practical view of the matter. Two kids and two parents even out; adding more creates some logistical worries. What would help you change your mind? - I have told Ida that the day she is comfortable driving a minivan, then, ok, I am on board.

time to try new food?

TA S T Y T I P S F O R T I N Y T U M M I E S Children are picky when it comes to trying new types of food ... Or are they?

Y

ou’ve been in the kitchen for hours. Well, maybe you haven´t been cooking for hours, but you've made the firm decision that today your little angel is going to try something new to eat. Many parents can relate to the frustration of their children not wanting to try new food, or that the first bite of the feast is spat out faster than it went in. - Ew, don’t want it! - It is important to know that children may have to taste something up to ten times before they learn to like it, says Food and Nutrition Counselor Britt Marlene Kåsin. As adults, knowing this, makes it easier for us to cope with a ‘yuck’ or a ‘no’. That some children can be seen as picky can often be related to our own expectations as parents, as to the whether the children actually are picky, adds Kåsin, responsible for content on matstart.no, a website with recipes for children and youth, where enjoying food and having and a sense of empowerment are the focus.

"Children may have to taste something up to ten times before they learn to like it." NATURAL SCEPTICISM

- Moving from breast milk to solid food is a big change for a child. They must learn to deal with new and unknown consistencies. Learning to like new flavors is also a process that all children must go through. Think back to when you first tasted coffee. It probably took several cups before you began to get used to it. The road to liking a strong cup of coffee usually starts with a sweet café latté,

34

S TO K K E ® 2 01 7

or a coffee with a good dose of milk and sugar. With this in mind, it is no wonder that children are sometimes sceptical, says the nutrition counselor. - Coffee is bitter, and bitterness is something we are naturally cautious of. Bitter flavors, which are found in broccoli and other vegetables, are often difficult to get children to eat. It is believed this is because poisonous plants found in nature also are bitter. This is a natural caution that has remained with us through evolution, Kåsin explains. INNATE SWEET AND SALTY CRAVINGS

From the time we are born, we have a natural preference toward the basic sweet and salty tastes. Amniotic fluid in the womb is salty, and breast milk is sweet. - Salt, in the right quantities, is something the body needs. From an evolutionary perspective, it would be counterproductive if an infant didn´t enjoy the sweet taste of breast milk, says Kåsin. This might be the reason why sweet things are very popular, while other foods can be a test of patience. And patience is key for those who want to teach their children to enjoy a varied diet. - Don't give up, but don’t pressure your child to eat. If a child feels pressured, it can bring up negative emotions around the breakfast or dinner table. Food should be a natural part of the day, and children usually get what they need. Don’t´worry. If your child doesn’t eat dinner, they usually make up for this by having an evening snack, says the nutrition counselor. →

Tips to encourage kids to try new food Did you know that children may need to taste something up to ten times before they learn to like it? Children who taste many different types of food when they are small often have a more wide and varied diet when they are older? 1. INTRODUCE YOUR CHILD TO TASTING EARLY

tas ty winners!

6. ALLOW YOUR CHILDREN IN THE KITCHEN.

TOMATOES

Even during pregnancy, you can try to eat foods with different flavors. Breast milk can also be flavored by what the mother eats. 2. PREPARE THEM FOR THE FLAVORS TO COME

GRAPES

Even if your child has not started on solid foods, you can get them ready for new flavors. Use a clean finger and let your child become familiar with flavors like tomato, apple and grape. 3. INTEGRATE FLAVORS

When your child progresses to solid foods, it´s a good idea to integrate different types of produce in mashes and porridges. Combine something bitter with something sweet to blend flavors with things that your children already like with something new.

APPLES

7. BE A GOOD ROLE MODEL.

Our children look up to us and often adopt our habits. If Dad removes the tomato from the salad, you can expect your child to do the same.

Create a calm and pleasant atmosphere when you eat together. It´s not always an easy thing to do during your hectic days, but try. A relaxed dinner never goes out of fashion.

MASHES

Offer healthy options for them to choose from such as sliced fruit and vegetables. Set out healthy PORRIDGE

S TO K K E ® 2 01 7

Children who help prepare meals and become familiar with the food they eat, are more likely to taste the food when it is served at the dinner table. Give your little one simple tasks that create a sense of empowerment and make them feel that they are participating.

8. BE PRESENT AT MEALTIME.

4. CHILDREN LIKE TO DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES.

36

Let your child taste new flavors and textures many times. Taste and consistency are something they have to get used to. If your child refuses to taste something new, don´t get frustrated. Try again in a few days.

three Billy Goats Gruff Once upon a time, three Billy Goats went off to the lush mountains to eat and get fat. All three goats were named Gruff. Along the way, there was a bridge across a waterfall that the goats had to cross. Underneath the bridge lived a big and ugly troll; he had eyes as big as dinner plates and a nose as long as a broom. The youngest Billy Goat Gruff was the first to cross the bridge. As he walked over, his hooves made a ”Tripp Trapp, Tripp Trapp” sound on the stone bridge. ”Who’s that, tripp-trapping over my bridge?” the Troll yelled. ”Oh, it is the smallest of the Billy-Goats Gruff. I am off to the mountains to eat and get fat,” he replied in a soft and gentle voice. ”I am coming to get you, and I will eat you up!” the Troll growled. ”Oh no, don’t come for me, I am so small. Just hold on a moment, because another Billy Goat Gruff is coming, and he is much bigger than me.” ”Well, all right,” the Troll said from under the bridge. A little while later, the middle Billy Goat Gruff came along to cross the bridge. ”Tripp Trapp, Tripp Trapp!” the bridge squeaked and squealed, as he trotted across. ”Who’s that, tripping and trapping over my bridge?” the Troll yelled. ”Oh, it is only me, the middle Billy Goat Gruff. I am off to the mountains to eat and get fat.” His tone was not as gentle and soft as the smallest Billy Goat Gruff. ”I am coming now to eat you up!” the Troll raged. ”Oh no, don’t come for me, wait a minute or two, because the largest Billy Goat Gruff is coming, and he is much, much bigger than me.” ”Very well then, go on,” the Troll replied. A moment later the biggest Billy Goat Gruff stepped onto the bridge. ”Tripp Trapp, Tripp Trapp!!” the bridge howled and moaned due to his heavy weight. ”Who’s there, stomping on my bridge?” yelled the Troll. ”It is the big Billy Goat Gruff!” he answered in a rough and deep voice. ”I am coming now to eat you up!” the Troll screamed. GRUFF CALLED BACK:

”I have two horns, just come for me! With them I will crush you, my enemy! I have two big rocks I will throw at you, The Troll will end up black and blue!” Then, he lunged at the ugly Troll. He fought and used his horns to throw the Troll into the waterfall. After the battle, he safely made his way to the mountains, where the two other Billy Goats waited. The goats grew so fat, so very fat, they almost couldn’t bear making their way home. And, if they have not walked off the fat yet, well ... then they are still fat, and so ...

“The key to achieving an optimal sleep environment is to keep things simple.” 40

S TO K K E ® 2 01 7

A space for sweet dreams:

D E S I G N A D R E A M Y N U R S E RY Expert tips to create the perfect sleep environment for your baby.

I

n preparation for your baby’s arrival, one of the most enjoyable aspects is setting up their nursery, says leading Australian sleep expert, Natalie Herman. It is an exciting time as the impending arrival of your baby has suddenly become so real. We often have a picture in our minds of what the nursery will look like. We have carefully considered the décor and selected our furniture and accessories accordingly. However, have we considered whether this space will provide the optimal sleep environment? While the aesthetics of a nursery are visually pleasing, there are a few things you can do in order to ensure the room is also set up for optimal sleep. After all, we want our babies to sleep as well as possible. During your baby’s first year, they should be exposed to as little stimulation as possible, especially when they are trying to fall asleep. Their room should be relaxing and calm, with minimal furniture and accent pieces. Later, when your baby is a toddler, you can begin adding more room decorations such as bookcases and cushions. To ensure that you do not overstimulate your baby, consider using a softer palette for their nursery, especially when choosing artwork or other wall décor. It is also a good idea to make certain there is nothing in your baby's line of vision to distract them from falling asleep, for example, a hanging mobile or light from a baby monitor. As mentioned, try not to overcrowd your baby’s room with a lot of furniture. A crib, changing table, feeding chair and a comfy carpet for the floor are sufficient. Try to avoid placing the crib too close to a window, as it can become quite drafty during the night. It is also important to not place too many items in your baby’s crib. Plain crib sheets, a baby blanket (according to the Safety guidelines) and their swaddle or sleeping bag are the best options. At four months, however, it’s worthwhile to introduce a beautiful comforter. This will give your baby the security they need, enabling them to become an independent sleeper and settle on their own. Adding decorative pieces such as sleeping pillows or toys is fine once your baby is one year old.

An optimal sleep environment also requires that the room be as dark and quiet as possible for both daytime and nighttime sleep. Blackout blinds are an excellent way of blocking out excess morning light and are really helpful for daytime naps. If you happen to live on a noisy street, playing some white noise works wonders. Either the sound of rain or waves is calming for your baby and is reminiscent of the sound of the womb. The key to achieving an optimal sleep environment is to keep things simple. You will have plenty of time to decorate your baby’s room later, once they have already mastered independent sleep and settling patterns. HOW TO GET YOUR LITTLE ONE ASLEEP AND SETTLED

Now that your beautiful nursery is set up for optimal sleep, you are ready to help your baby get settled into a healthy sleep routine. To the right is a helpful checklist of the main things you can do in order to help get your little one settled and sleeping well. WATCH YOUR BABY’S SLEEP WINDOW

A sleep window is the optimal time to put a baby down for a nap and bedtime. In general, you should be making sure you put your baby down every 1-2 hours (including feeding them); later, from three months onward, this can be stretched to 1.5-2.5 hours. IMPLEMENT A NAP ROUTINE BEFORE PUTTING YOUR BABY TO SLEEP DURING THE DAY

Babies thrive on a consistent routine, as it makes them feel safe and secure. Develop a set of rituals and repeat these each time you put your baby down for a nap. A good routine may include feeding, changing, cuddling, saying goodnight to whomever is in the house, and playing some relaxing white noise, before taking them to their room for sleep. GIVE THEM A COMFORTER WHEN THEY ARE 4 MONTHS OLD

When it is safe to do so, (from no earlier than four months), give your baby a snuggly comforter before each nap and nighttime sleep. →

Natalie’s checklist for setting up your nursery Create a relaxing atmostphere by using minimal furniture and accessories. Don’t overstimulate your baby. • Select a soft color palette for walls and décor. • Limit distractions in baby’s line of vision (like mobiles and toys). • Limit excess light like that from a baby monitor. Maintain a clutter free crib with just the necessary sheets and blanket. Keep the room dark and quiet. Keep things simple. • More fun and design details can be added to the nursery when the baby masters independent sleep.

41

S TO K K E ® S L E E P I N G

This will give them something to attach to and will also act as a sleep cue. Each time they see their comforter, they know that sleep is imminent. Babies love and need a sense of attachment in order to be able to become self-soothers.

and reliant on too many different techniques. The best settling technique should be when your baby is lying down flat on their back in their crib, and you are using touch and voice techniques to soothe them to sleep.

ENSURE AT LEAST ONE, PREFERABLY TWO OF THEIR SLEEPS ARE IN THEIR CRIB DURING THE DAY

MAKE SURE YOUR BABY’S ROOM IS DARK AND QUIET FOR DAYTIME NAPS, TOO

The more regularly you put your baby to sleep in their crib, the quicker they will learn and understand that this is their dominant sleep space. They will form an attachment from an early age, and the consistency will help them to feel comfortable and secure. This will help them to sleep better. DON’T OVERSTIMULATE YOUR BABY WITH ACTIVITY

Young babies can become overstimulated very quickly and, when tired, will resist sleep. It can be very tempting to be out all day at different activities, but try to limit it to once or twice a day maximum. This way, you ensure they are getting enough nap time. BE CONSISTENT IN THE WAY YOU SETTLE YOUR BABY TO SLEEP

From three months of age, try to focus on developing only a few methods of getting your baby to sleep so they do not become confused 42

S TO K K E ® 2 01 7

Your baby will fall asleep easier in a dark and quiet room. It is a good idea to prepare their room this way each time they go to sleep both during the day and at night. ENSURE YOU ARE IMPLEMENTING A BEDTIME ROUTINE EACH NIGHT AT THE SAME TIME, WITH THE SAME SET OF RITUALS

You can begin a regular bedtime routine straight away. It is a good way to get your baby calm and settled just before putting them to sleep. Giving them a bath with a dash of lavender oil is also helpful, especially if your baby is experiencing colic. FEED YOUR BABY WELL DURING THE DAY TO BOOST THEIR CALORIES

Ensuring you are feeding your baby well during the day will help them sleep better at night. If you are breastfeeding, make sure that you also eat well, so your milk supply is at its highest. A diet of many carbohydrates, fruit and vegetables is best.

FIND THE STOKKE ® STROLLER THAT'S RIGHT FOR YOU We've put together an easy-to-understand explanation of the basic stroller components, as well as some things you may want to consider before buying. or many parents-to-be, a stroller is one of the first things you will think about purchasing for your little bundle of joy. After all, modern moms and dads live active lives and still want to do all of the things they did before - with one small and wonderful change. A quality stroller is a wise investment that you simply cannot do without. It will be used from those early newborn days well into toddlerhood for your daily outings together. For most, this is about three years. Is it any wonder this choice is daunting? Lucky for you, we’re stroller experts.

F

WORDS TO LEARN:

Chassis: This is the frame which includes the handle and wheels to which a seat, carry cot, or car seat can be attached. Carry Cot: This is usually larger than a seat and a place where your baby can lie flat. It is widely recommended for young babies. Seat: This is where the baby can sit or lie in a reclined position. Canopy: This is a detachable hood to shade your baby and protect them from the elements. It is detachable and includes ventilation. Wheels: These are the tires that come with the chassis. The type of wheel depends on the stroller or in the case of some strollers such as Stokke® Trailz™, the one that you choose. Shopping Basket: This is the area beneath the seat made to carry such things as your handbag, small groceries and the like. A roomy, easily accessible shopping basket is desirable if you find that you tend to take a lot with you.

66

S TO K K E ® 2 01 7

Changing Bag: This is a bag to hold your must-have baby essentials for changing your baby when you are out together. THINGS TO CONSIDER:

Lifestyle: How will you and your family use your stroller? Consider where you live and what you like to do. If you enjoy going outdoors on rougher terrain, you may want to choose a stroller designed to handle it. If you travel or live in a city, you may prefer a more compact stroller. Stroller Design: Does the design of the stroller fit your lifestyle? Does it have the things that you need to make your outings with baby easier? Look for features that will work for you and your family. Such features may include height adjustability or a rotating handle. Car seat: It is important to know that the stroller you choose is compatible with a car seat if you want to use it as part of a travel system. All of our strollers are compatible with Stokke® Car Seats without the use of adaptors and other car seats with the use of adaptors. Accessories: Does the stroller have the accessories that you want? Useful accessories include things like a car seat if you require a travel system or a Winter Kit for cooler weather. Remember, the best way to know if a stroller is right for you is to consider your lifestyle and needs. Do your homework, and if possible, take your desired choice for a test drive. The right stroller makes getting out with your baby easier and more comfortable for both of you. If you haven’t found answers here, take our stroller quiz.

S TO K K E ® X P LO RY ® THE ULTIMATE CONNECTION STROLLER – because it offers unrivaled seat height and adjustability promoting eye contact and closeness between parent and child. DESIGNED TO: Bring your baby close for interaction, allowing you to maneuver effortlessly while you explore the world together.
