Moved to Stoneleigh in 1874 Famous as an ornamental blacksmith, Edward Langley Fardon moved to Stoneleigh, at the request of Lord Leigh, as "an engineer in the minor branches." Here he remained until his death 50 years later, living at 2, Church Place (now East Glebe, Church Lane). Edward Langley Fardon created ornamental gates for Stoneleigh Abbey and also for Baron Rothschild's mansions in Switzerland and France. He is credited with building the first iron bicycle with rubber tyres and a suspension wheel – long before Starley.
