GIVING BACK. TAKING CARE OF OUR OWN BACKYARD!
As a local business, the team at Stoney Creek see it as our corporate responsibility to give back to our local communities and do our bit to help protect the environment. Coming from rural background ourselves, we have a deep understanding and passion for the outdoors, that we want to be able to pass on to future generations. Our focus here is to develop programmes that look after the people that work and play in the outdoors and to be responsible custodians of the outdoors. Our initiatives include:
Community Sponsorships: Each year we get in behind a large number of community and rural groups through supporting and fund-raising initiatives that give back to grass roots NZ and those that support our brand.
Warm up the Streets: For several years now, Stoney Creek and Our Backyard Trust (OBT) has supported clothing children in need through our Winter Kids Packs community initiatives. Encouraging other businesses and families to donate and support, and partnering with organisations such as Curate Church for the distribution drives, we are well on our way of reaching our goal of having clothed over 100,000 kids with Winter Warm Up Packs that couldn’t clothe themselves.
Sustainability Journey: As a business we have made a commitment to reduce our environmental impact by using 100% compostable bags, more sustainable fabrics, responsibly sourced / certified down and aims to reduce the use of harmful chemicals used on fabrics. We aren’t perfect and we still have a long way to go, but we are moving in the right direction and influencing others to join in making positive change.
To help coordinate and allow others to get involved in these undertakings, Stoney Creek owners Brent and Juanita McConnell set up the Our Back Yard Trust (OBT) as a vehicle to drive community projects in 3 key areas: Conservation, Child & Community Well-being and Rural Mental Health.
Since then OBT has been used to organise the Warm Up the Streets events, the Coastal Clean-up project (last year in Tauranga Harbour alone we cleaned up over 5 tonnes of waste and rubbish from Bay of Plenty marinas and beaches) and helping to promote Rural Mental Health by supporting the Will to Live trust (www.willtolivenz.com) with support such as the Check On Your Mates campaign.
We invite you or your business to help protect New Zealand for generations to come and share our strong community company values, by connecting with Our Backyard Trust at WWW.OURBACKYARDTRUST.COM where you will also see the most recent projects, goals, ways to donate and get involved.
COASTAL CLEAN-UP
Our Backyard Trust, Stoney Creek, Tauranga Sport Fishing Club and an army of volunteers and other local businesses, all combined forces to be involved in our first-ever Tauranga Harbour & Ocean Clean Up Project. Over 5 TONNES OF RUBBISH was collected.
