The John P. Robarts Library is the main humanities and social sciences library of the University of Toronto and the largest individual library on the university campus. The library’s imposing appearance has earned it the nickname of “Fort Book”. THE CHALLENGE: Beginning in 2009, the Robarts Library underwent a significant upgrade and renovation project. The plans for this massive facility included adding study spaces and replacing some concrete walls with glass to increase natural light. Additionally, functional and aesthetic upgrades were required in multiple washrooms in this facility. The new washroom floors needed to be easy to clean, durable and attractive.

THE STONHARD SOLUTION To address all of these requirements, the Stonhard team recommended a seamless, ergonomic, high performance system - Stonres RTZ. In addition, Stonshield HRI Base and Stonkote GS4 coating were used to create the coves that surround the floor, increasing cleanability and providing additional aesthetic appeal. Stonres RTZ is a seamless, resilient floor that combines distinctive design elements with performance and function in a smooth, stain resistant, ergonomic and sound-reducing system. Like other Stonhard floors, Stonres meets the challenges of industrial surroundings, yet is created with public spaces in mind - education, healthcare, as well as concourses, lobbies and arenas.
