Five Star was chosen for a balcony repair project on a low rise residential building located in Whitby, Ontario. Over time, steel reinforcing bars corroded which cracked and spalled the concrete blocks and render coating, creating potential safety issues should the debris be allowed to fall. The areas of concern included loose and spalling blockwork on the underside of the balcony, render coatings particularly on the front of the balcony and the corners, where the embedded metal railings have contributed to the damage. The damaged blockwork and render was removed

with air hammers and any exposed reinforcement was cleaned prior to commencing repairs. The repairs were carried out using a combination of Five Star Structural Concrete V/O for smaller overhead and vertical repairs and Five Star Structural Concrete for larger form and pour repairs required at the corners of the balcony. Five Star Structural Concrete and Five Star Structural Concrete V/O both contain migrating corrosion inhibitors to help protect any exposed reinforcement and are specifically designed to be user-friendly and efficient in use.
