What is the IBCP?

The IBCP is designed for those who are interested in pursuing a more hands on, careerrelated approach to education in Sixth Form. It enables students to:

• Combine academic subjects with their personal and professional interests • Engage in learning that makes a positive difference to their community • Think critically and creatively • Communicate effectively in a variety of situations

• Work effectively: - independently - collaboratively • Explore new perspectives and consider the points of view of others • Develop self-confidence and self-awareness • Demonstrate high levels of resilience, flexibility and agility of mind • Be internationally minded and globally aware • Apply knowledge to real-world scenarios and situations.

Why opt for the IBCP? Students complete at least two IB Diploma courses in any of the subject groups: studies in language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics and the arts – please refer to the IB Diploma subjects on the IB Diploma pages for a list of the course options available at Stonyhurst. Diploma courses that are relevant to the student’ s career related studies should be selected, as they provide and enhance the theoretical underpinnings and academic rigour of the career related programme.

Career Related Programme Core Components Students develop personal qualities and professional skills along with intellectual habits required for lifelong learning: • Personal and professional skills – emphasis is placed on developing skills needed to successfully navigate higher education, the workplace and society, from responsibility and practical problem-solving to perseverance, resilience and understanding the complexities of the modern world.

• Service learning – the practical application of knowledge and skills toward meeting an identified community need. • Language development – ensures that all

IBCP students have access and exposure to a second language. • Reflective project – an in-depth body of work produced over an extended period and submitted toward the end of the programme.

The project should analyse and reflect on an ethical dilemma associated with an issue from the student’s Career Related Studies. Career Related Study (accredited by OCR) Students are provided with practical, real world approaches to learning in the career area of their choice.

At Stonyhurst we offer two options for Career Related Studies:

• Business • Sport This aspect is taught through the OCR Cambridge Technicals Level 3 suite of qualifications.

Why opt for the IBCP? The IBCP will particularly appeal to those who wish to specialise in a particular career area. By combining the assessment methods offered by OCR with the academic study of the IB Diploma courses, we are able to meet the needs of those students who wish to prepare them for higher education, and internship or apprenticeship, or entering the world of work in their chosen field.
