Adding an action to a navigation button To add an action to the Home button please repeat the steps at the top of page three but this time set the button to link back to Page 1 (the Home page). To download the Forward and Back images, repeat the steps in the section entitled Creating navigation buttons on Page 3 of this booklet but this time choosing a Back and a Forward image (see screenshot on the right). Paste the Forward image onto page 2 of your flipchart and the Back image onto page 3.
How to Guide Page Hyperlinking in ActivInspire Choosing a template
Add the action Another Page to the Forward button on page 2 of your flipchart, choosing page 3 to link the button to.
Open ActivInspire, then in the Browser, located to the left of the screen (if you cannot see the browser, press Ctrl + B on your keyboard). Click on the Resource Browser tab (the Resource browser tab is highlighted with a red circle in the screenshot on the right). In the shared resources folder window, click on the Templates folder then scroll the thumbnails to find a suitable template.
Repeat this step for the Back button on page 3 of your flipchart, but choosing page 2 to link the button back to.
To copy the template to your flipchart, simply click and drag the template to your blank flipchart page.
Now test out the navigation system by clicking on the various buttons to check that they link to the correct pages.
You are now going to duplicate the page you have just created, to do this click on the Page Browser tab (this is to the left of the Resource Browser tab)
Note: Please ensure that the design Mode icon on the menubar is blue, if it is red the actions will be disabled and your buttons will not work.
Congratulations you have just created your first ActivInspire navigable flipchart.

In the Page Browser, right-click on the page thumbnail and choose the Duplicate option from the menu. A duplicate slide will now appear underneath the original. Repeat the above instruction one more time. You should now have three identical flipchart pages.
Creating a button that will hyperlink to another page You are now going to create a button that when clicked on will take you to another page within your flipchart. The first step in creating a button is to draw a shape. To do this, click on the Shapes tool in ActivInspires toolbox. The Shapes menu will now appear down the right-hand side of the ActivInspire window. Click on the Rounded Rectangle shape in the menu then move your cursor onto your flipchart page and click and drag to draw out the shape. 1
Click on the shape and a menubar and a series of handles around the shape will appear (see screenshot on the right). To resize the shape, click and drag using any of the handles (the handle that has a diagonal line through it allows you to resize the shape whilst keeping the aspect ratio). Click on the Text tool in the toolbox and then click on the flipchart page, a text box will now appear with the instruction Type here. Type in the title Page 1. Click on the Select tool in the toolbox and click and drag the textbox over the rounded rectangle shape you created earlier (making sure it is centred over the textbox). To change the fill and outline colour of the shape, click on the Fill tool in the toolbox, choose the fill colour you want from the toolbox colour palette and click inside the shape to change the fill colour. Repeat the above action to change the line colour but instead of clicking inside the shape, click on the outline of the shape. Move your cursor to just outside of the top left hand side of the corner of the shape and click and drag down to the bottom right hand corner of the shape, you will see a light grey rectangle appear over the shape. You have now selected both objects, to group them simply click on the Grouped icon in the toolbar (see screenshot above). Your objects are now grouped together and can be moved and resized as a single object. Before you start the next step you will need to enter Design mode, to do this simply click on the Design Mode button in the menu bar (see screenshot below). The button will turn red to indicate that you are in editing mode. 2
You are now going to assign an action to the buttonDesign you Mode have just created. To do this click on the button to select it and in the Browser, click on the Actions Browser tab. You will now be presented with a list of actions, for this button you are going to assign the Another Page action to it. To do this click on the Another Page action from the list, the Action Properties box will now appear. Using the up/down arrows in the Page Number box, select the page number that you want your button to go to when clicked. For the purpose of this exercise you are going to choose Page 2. When you have done this, click on the Apply Changes button otherwise the action will not be saved.. To test your button, click on the Design icon to come out of Design Mode, then click on your button. You should now be on page two of your flipchart. You will notice that there are no buttons to take you back to the home page or onto the next page, for now use either the Previous Page button on the ActivInspire toolbox or the Page Browser to navigate your way back to the Home page. In the final part of this exercise you will be learning how to create Home, Forward and Back buttons, which will allow you to navigate your way around the flipchart.
Creating navigation buttons You can draw your navigation buttons in ActivInspire, but by far the easier way is to use Microsoft Clipart, simply open your Internet Browser and in the Address Bar type in: http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/images/ In the Search box, type in ‘button’ and click on the Search button. You will now be presented with a series of images, hover your cursor over an image and you will be given two options, either copy the image to your clipboard or download to your computer. Find a Home button image and choose the Copy option, then go back to your flipchart, go to the second flipchart page, right-click on the page and select the Paste option. In the next section you are going to add an action to the Home button you’ve downloaded. 3
