Choosing the Right Partner

Understand the service provider’s history and finances Are you at risk of losing your investment if your provider suddenly ceases opera<ons? There will always be small providers offering “too good to be true” pricing, but you cannot risk partnering with a company that does not have proven longevity in the marketplace. Key items to consider or ques<ons to ask your provider as part of your due diligence effort:

How long have you been in business? How many devices do you have deployed on your plaWorm? How many customers do you service? Do you have any recogni;ons/awards that demonstrate your value proposi;on? How are you funded….who are your investors? Who are your largest customers? What ver;cal markets do you support and sell into?

Confirm the provider can offer administrative control and security features within the platform Key items to consider or ques<ons to ask a poten<al provider as part of your due diligence effort:

How do I protect my investment and data?

Can I prevent security breaches into my system?

Can I have a separate set of rules for each user (admin, mgmt., drivers, etc.)?

Review the quality and functionality of the mapping, alerting, and reporting engine Key items to consider or ques<ons to ask a poten<al provider as part of your due diligence effort:

What mapping system does the provider use? Does mapping include the US, Canada, and Mexico? What different mapping views do they provide? Satellite, road map, bird’s eye, street level, 2D/3D mapping? How o`en does your provider upgrade to the latest mapping views? Are you able to integrate custom map layers (energy specific, etc.)? Is there a fee for custom reports?

How is the ease of use of the software interface? Are you able to achieve the task within 3 clicks of entering the application? Key items to consider or ques<ons to ask a poten<al provider as part of your due diligence effort:

Does the layout of the system make sense? Is it cumbersome to get to the informa;on your seeking? Can I easily navigate through the site without having to backtrack through mul;ple pages? Do they offer easy access to support when help is required? Is the interface flexible enough to provide mul;ple views (dashboards) segmen;ng views based upon asset type, project, loca;on, etc.?

Does the provider provide customized reporting? Repor<ng is the retrieval of the raw data and presen<ng this data in a format that is useful and easy to understand for the customer. How the data is presented to the end user is important for many reasons. From history reports to inventory status reports, the basics should be easy to use, but they also should give the end user the ability to manipulate that data by date range or by specific GPS device. Look long and hard at repor;ng within the system and ask many ques;ons. Key items to consider or ques<ons to ask a poten<al provider as part of your due diligence effort: What reports come with the system? Can I manipulate the data by date range or device/ unit #? How long is my data accessible to me? Can I ask for customized reports and format the data? Can integrate 3rd party data into the plaWorm (RFID, ERP, etc.)? Does the provider offer other complimentary services – data analysis (i.e. performance trending)? How does your provider keep your data private and secure? The provider must always secure the collected data on their servers in a controlled environment, protected from unauthorized access, use or disclosure and have mul;ple back up systems in place. Is my data secure and held in privacy for both my business and my customers? Does the provider encrypt your data in their system? What technology or investment have they made in data security? Is your provider innovative, introducing new features and functionality on a quarterly basis or do you risk having an outdated system in 6 months? Many providers promise “free upgrades”, but many do not invest in system upgrades. Key items to consider or ques<ons to ask a poten<al provider as part of your due diligence effort:

Is the provider’s business model based on selling a commodi;zed product or providing a program with managed services? How much do they invest into system upgrades each year? How many so`ware engineers do they employ? How o`en are new features introduced?
