WELCOME
...to the FESTIVAL OF YOU! We want to celebrate all the wonderful and unique things that make you... you!
W
e wanted to get to know you better. So we did some research and discovered that only 12 percent of women over forty feel accurately represented in society today. When they look around, they don’t see positive images being reflected back. We also discovered that 75 percent of women felt they were treated completely differently to women in their twenties and thirties. And it made us stop and think about what we could do. We considered our values. We thought about what we want for all the women who walk through our doors and we arrived at a simple truth. At Priceline, we want to celebrate all women, regardless of your age or any other marker

SKIN SECRETS
quickly—as Annabel Crabb put it—that a woman has to work as if she has no children and parent as “I cleanse in the shower if she has no job. This is still how I do things over and use a face oil every night. 11 years later!” However, Swan is quick to point out that she Lately I’ve been experimenting isn’t alone. “My partner, Chris, does the morning with serums too, which stuff when I’m at work and always keeps the ship is a lot of fun!” on course,” she says. “We’re a team. He’s also kind to me always, which makes coming home a pleasure.” She admits that not being a perfectionist has also held her in good stead: “I tell myself I’m doing my best and that takes the pressure off.”
“What’s in my kit? Black eyeliner, black mascara and a good foundation are my makeup essentials. I always have a lipstick on hand as well.”
Swan
With her honest outlook and unapologetic irreverence, this much-loved TV and radio presenter—and mother of three—shares the secret to her balancing act.
C
hrissie Swan has been gracing our television screens and radio airwaves for over 10 years, drawing us in with her offthe-cuff antics, genuine insights and down-to-earth personality. She became a familiar face in 2003 as a runner-up on reality TV phenomenon Big Brother. She has since gone from strength-tostrength, with career accolades that include a number-one rated breakfast show, a hosting gig on Network Ten’s morning chat show The Circle, and a Logie for Most Popular Female Presenter. She’s also written a book Is It Just Me? Confessions of an OverSharer and is a regular columnist for Fairfax’s Sunday Life and Good Weekend magazines. Oh, and she has three children, too.
TOUGH STUFF Swan, it seems, is not one to shy away from a challenge. “I’ve always been curious and loved a bit of risk-taking and hard work. These elements of my personality have paid off for me.” And she admits that when she tackles these challenges, it’s a source of courage. “Confidence is knowing I’m giving something my all,” she says. “And quietly not caring if people don’t like it.” The latter speaks to the thick skin TV personalities often need in today’s call-out culture. But Swan points to her children as being crucial in her 1 approach to pretty much everything she does: “They are a great leveller!” she admits. “I learned very

SWEET SURRENDER Kindness is a theme that runs throughout Swan’s balancing act—she doesn’t succumb to the pressure many women place on themselves to be everything to everyone. “I work hard, but at the end of the day I’m very kind to myself, my kids and Chris... that’s all I have to do and be. Anything else is a bonus!” Another trick to keeping all the balls in the air: systems to make life easy. “I always lay my clothes out the night before and know where my keys are!” As someone who spends her morning brightening life for her
“I’ve always been curious and loved a bit of risk-taking and hard work. These elements of my personality have paid off for me.” listeners, she’s worked hard at making that switch from work to home. “I won’t lie—it’s hard sometimes when I’m exhausted, but I soldier on because I don’t want my kids to have memories of me being tired all the time,” she says. “So I always try and be available.” Swan says that making an effort to eat together 1. I now have zero pain and can walk for miles.” And while she wishes she’d fixed it earlier, “you can 2 only do things when you’re ready, so I’m not too hard on myself over it.” Kindness, again, is the key.
4
SMOOTH MOVES She’s also taking steps... to take more steps. “This year I got a Fitbit and I try and get 10,000 steps a day,” she says. “I don’t always succeed but at least I’m accountable! I’ve never enjoyed exercise so walking is all I can commit to with any sort of regularity.” Plus, Swan swears that laughing for three hours a day “is the best thing I can do for my health.” What else makes her feel good? “Sleep!” she answers quickly, noting that she rarely gets enough. “And a quiet coffee on my own.” As for her own sense of self, “I’ve never felt unattractive but I do care a lot less as I get older.” Swan derives the most pleasure from the small things. “My life is very ordinary, but joyous.”

SUIT YOURSELF
She’s been shining a light on our stories, struggles and triumphs for decades and shows no signs of slowing down.
OFF BEAT Let’s take a second to marvel at the career path Buttrose has carved. Quick recap: she was founding editor of Cleo at 30; editor of The Australian Women’s Weekly and editor-in-chief of the Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph; a board member of Australian Consolidated Press, News Ltd Australia, Channel Ten and Prudential Corporation; and was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 1988 for services to the community. She received an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) for services to journalism in 1979 and the Centenary Medal in 2003 for business leadership. Today, she is still a woman in demand. And just in case there was any question around whether she’s slowing down, being Chair of the ABC keeps her busy. Her remarkable career and contribution to charity was recognised in 2019 when she was made a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) for her service to the community through leadership in the media, the arts, the health sector and as a role model. What makes this even more remarkable is that she did all this with no female role models herself. In part, she attributes a rowdy childhood with three brothers (“who stole my mashed potatoes!”) for assuming that whatever the boys did, she could do too. “I never questioned that my voice

t’s hard not to feel a little intimidated when you meet Ita Buttrose. After all, she is a household name. But within moments of meeting her you feel as if you’re sitting down with an old friend. Does she find that people often feel that way around her? “When I’m out, I’ll hear someone say, ‘Hi, Ita!’ as if they’re greeting an old friend, and I’ll start trying to figure out where we’ve met before,” she laughs. “Either way, I always say hello and quite often have a chat, and sometimes I’ll get some tips on what to do with the ABC.” As someone who has been navigating life in the public eye for most of her adult life, a clear demarcation between private and public was something Buttrose figured out early. “The line for me has always been easy,” she says, noting that when her children were small she rarely had them photographed. “While I shared with them the challenges I faced as a working mother, it was important to me that they had a regular, out-of-the-limelight upbringing.”
Buttrose approaches life with a steadfast confidence that is both inspiring and humbling. When asked where her confidence comes from: “I have always believed in myself,” she says, simply. “That is essential because if you don’t, then no one else will.” This was especially important in the early days of her career, when as a single mother, she wasn’t even able to get a bank loan. “My generation of women were pioneers in women’s liberation,” she says. “We made the decision to raise our voices for all the right reasons.” It’s hard to imagine now, but when Buttrose launched Cleo in 1972, “there was no maternity leave, no no-fault divorce, and no women in the House of Representatives. We couldn’t get a bank account without a male guarantor and it didn’t need to be your husband – it could be any random bloke you brought into the bank.” Buttrose recalls the disdain a bank manager showed her when she applied for a home loan as a divorced mother. “He didn’t approve of me, so I didn’t get the loan.” “You should never, ever be silent,” she says, matter-offactly. “You should always speak up when you see something that isn’t fair.” It is perhaps her acute sense of compassion that has allowed Buttrose to be a champion for so many people throughout her career. “I’ve always been inspired and drawn to people who are able to achieve, despite the odds they face. I’m drawn to stories of endurance.”
BEAUTY TIP “Eat lots of fish and green, leafy vegetables, moisturise at night and always wear sunblock… especially on the backs of your hands.”
1 1. Glow Lab Age Renew Soothing Day Cream 50g, $34.99. 2. L’Oréal Paris Color Riche Lipstick, $21.95. 3. Hask Keratin Protein Smoothing Deep Conditioner 50g, $4.99.
BALANCING ACT Speaking of endurance, Buttrose discovered the secret for balancing work and a busy family life early in her career— exercise and a good night’s sleep. “When my kids were little I’d go for a run before they woke up. Then I’d be home making breakfast and going over the spelling words before dropping them at school,” she recalls, admitting the sleep part didn’t always come together. “My job has at times involved late nights and early mornings, but I always tried.” These days, she still maintains that daily dedication, but has slowed her run to a long, daily walk. “It’s a time for me to think and sometimes meditate on problems I might be trying to solve,” she says. “It’s so important to find some time for yourself because you feel so much better and exercise helps you cope with stress.” When Buttrose reflects on getting older, it is with optimism. “One of the huge pluses is that I really accept who I am,” she says, admitting she’d never want to go back to the days of dieting and being so harsh on herself. “I am comfortable.” Just one more reason to emulate her inspiring outlook.

SARAH JANE
Adams
Accidental style icon Sarah Jane Adams is embracing life with a positive outlook, a contagious irreverence—and the publication of her debut novel.
S
tep into the world of British-born collector and jewellery designer Sarah Jane Adams, where wrinkles are worn proudly and the word anti-ageing is not even tolerated, and you won’t want to leave. Her place in the public eye happened almost by chance. Several years ago, her daughter posted a photo online of her mother in a red Adidas varsity jacket (#mymumiscoolerthanme #advancedstyle) and sparked a social media phenomenon. Surprised by how well her image was “Don’t listen to me, listen received, Adams began posting selfies to the inner you! Be who you of her eclectic outfits—a wild mashup of wish to be, wear what you want influences including punk, sportswear and to wear, and experiment. See designer vintage which keeps everyone guessing. Within four years she had north what makes you feel happy of 100K followers and booked campaigns and comfortable. Do You!” with the likes of H&M, WWD and Miu Miu.
STYLE TIP
BRIGHT SPARK
1
Adams’ irreverence struck a chord with women who were tired of being told how to conform and belong, none of which is lost on Adams: “I think women are more fired up by my attitude than my style, but I guess the clothes reflect the attitude.” Nevertheless, traditional fashion rules have never applied to Adams and her followers could (and still cannot) get enough. “I’ve always had an eye for the different, the individual, rather than trends,” she says. “For many years I viewed what was in fashion as merely another form of uniform, so I avoided it completely.” Ironically, her desire to avoid fashion—and innate ability to ignore the societal sign posts about how women of a certain age should dress—made her more fashionable than ever. “I am not constricted by the views that women should change the way they dress as they become older,” she says, refreshingly. “I dress for myself and no one else.” And this unapologetic attitude is precisely why Adams managed to spark a conversation about age and style in a world inundated with perfectly curated images we too often measure ourselves against.
12
Rising above the noise to create a moment is no mean feat. And it is one built entirely on Adams’ genuine sense of style and confidence. As for where she sources the latter: “It’s essential to understand yourself, find what drives you, what comforts you, find your faults but work on them rather than letting them get you down,” she says. “Your self-criticism can be your best guidance and your worst enemy. The power is only within you to be comfortable in your own skin.”
PAST PERFECT For all her advocates, her inability to be “put in a box” doesn’t always sit well with everyone who crosses her path… or comes across her feed. “I cannot be easily pigeonholed,” she says, admitting to finding criticism of the unhelpful kind mildly entertaining. “Some have even described me as a ‘hot

mess’, which I find flattering.” As for where she sources her incredible wardrobe, Adams is a passionate consumer of vintage clothes and still wears pieces she found when she was 18. “I don’t really shop for clothing anymore, as I have more than enough items to last me a lifetime,” she says. “My style is an expression of the life I have led, the people I have met, and the sub-cultures and geographical cultures I have experienced.” One thing she urges women to consider is their body and how they feel. “I think it’s important to know and understand your body, and to dress as you choose, without worrying about the fashion police.” As a reluctant style influencer, Adams has found herself in glamorous and far-flung locations on shoots... even being mistaken for the cleaning crew at a high-profile runway show. None of which bothers her in the slightest. “It’s all a crazy, ridiculous ride, which I will continue enjoying while the opportunities are there,” she says. Perhaps most inspiring, and certainly worth emulating, is Adams’ pragmatic take on the passage of time: “There is no point in wasting your energy feeling conflicted about the natural order of things,” she says. Her advice: “Look after the body, as without a strong, well-functioning one, life can lose its gloss. Ageing in good health is the aim!” To that end, Adams practices Jivamukti yoga up to six times a week, takes long daily walks, eats loads of salads and raw veggies and has the windows and doors flung open 365 days a year. “I’m a fresh-air freak,” she laughs, admitting that she is also something of an insomniac at times. “I do try to get plenty of regular sleep.” Her beauty regimen is simple but consistent: Adams cleanses, exfoliates and hydrates every morning and night. “Everything has to be organic and cruelty-free,” she says, which is why she loves gentle formulas from A’kin and Glow Lab. And peek in her makeup bag and you’ll find a much-loved tube of the classic yet bold (sound familiar?) Revlon 440 Cherries in the Snow. As for how she remains balanced when life gets stressful? “I stand on my head.” But, of course.

“Our skin starts ageing from the day we are born, so the phrase anti-ageing is a contradiction in terms. Intellectually, that phrase annoys me intensely. It so cleverly insinuates that we should be anti the ageing process, which is absurd. So, whilst I do believe in different skincare for skin of all ages, types, colours, I do not believe in that term.” SARAH JANE ADAMS priceline.com.au

HOT STUFF Hennessy went from being a local presenter to the most talked about woman on the Internet. “I have been pinching myself ever since,” she says, acknowledging that there is a strange side to sudden fame. “Now heaps of people know my name and want pictures and it still blows my mind.” Of course, the thing about achieving what you once believed was not possible is that while Hennessy now has a platform for her brutally honest wit, she has discovered fame is not a panacea for self-doubt. “I thought I would change more, but I have terrible imposter syndrome and I feel anxious all the time. I really thought that would go with success… nope.” She also admits, tongue in cheek, to thinking she would dress and smell better. “I have always been and probably always will be a mess,” she says. “But that’s me and I’m okay with that, ’cause I don’t wanna be fancy… I wanna be me.” Part of her appeal is this ability to be unapologetically herself, which includes sharing the highs and the lows. On the latter, she has spoken openly about her daily battle with depression. “I want people to feel less alone in their struggles. Mental health doesn’t discriminate. It has the potential to affect anyone,” she says. “I wish people had been more honest with their struggles when I was growing up—because I felt like I was the only one.” Which lead to a feeling of failure she couldn’t shake. “So I don’t want people to think I’m fine all the time because I’m not... no one is.”

can do it and succeed, then so can I.” Hennessy also admits she’s terrified of the suicide statistics, which state that eight Australians take their life every single day. “I want to do all I can to change that statistic,” she says. Surrounding herself with people who make her laugh helps. “My boyfriend really makes me laugh, and so does my friend Liv Phyland— she’s so fun, joyful and clumsy,” she says. Self-care rituals also play a role in lifting Hennessy’s spirits. “I like to get near water and nature and relax,” she says. “I have a tendency to over work.” There’s the importance of shut-eye: “I always make sure I sleep properly—I even have a special oil and spray that relaxes me so I sleep better.” And she’s also a huge fan of masking: “I get the gel ones and put them in the fridge. They feel so good.”
“I have always been and probably always will be a mess,” she says. “But that’s me and I’m okay with that, ’cause I don’t wanna be fancy… I wanna be me.” As for how she copes with a crisis of confidence these days now that her fame is a few years old, Hennessy says the trick is to “feel the fear and do it anyway.” Words to live by. 1. You already have healthy skincare habits. Now, give your skin the support it needs by adding complexion-smoothing actives and extra hydration to your regimen. The best way to maintain that youthful glow? Make small changes that help your skin repair and renew more regularly. Then, switch harsh scrubs for chemical exfoliators with glycolic or lactic acid, which lift pigmentation and reduce appearance of lines. Finally, support your system with supplements that work on your health from the inside out. And lashes, always.

Whenever I’m feeling stressed or anxious, going for a run outside always calms me down,” she says. “I also find writing lists and prioritising what I need to do helps me de-stress as well.”
LIGHT TOUCH As for the darker side of living in the spotlight and allowing people to share in your vulnerability, Rogers concedes the criticism and unkind words still get to her sometimes. “I just try to remember that it’s usually something within that person that causes them to say something cruel and it actually doesn’t have anything to do with me,” she says. “Then I debrief with my fiancé or my mum and most of the time we just have a laugh about it.” Looking for the silver lining is a theme: “I try to focus on all of the positive feedback I receive, rather than the negative.” And at the end of the day, Rogers says there’s no place like home when it comes to keeping things real. “I go back to Adelaide, where I grew up, as much as possible. Being around my family keeps me grounded,” she says. As does her work as a speech pathologist. “I am constantly meeting people who are facing major challenges in their lives, which also reminds me not to sweat the small stuff.” But in the end, it’s the way she has come to feel about herself that makes life so good: “I have learned to love the skin I am in.”

You’ve got the basics down—cleanse, moisturise, repeat—but it’s also crucial to preserve and protect. That means practising sun safety and adding ingredients that keep your skin smooth and clear, making no-makeup makeup a breeze.
face massager with EMS technology
When you tailor your regimen to your complexion’s specific needs, your skin will be healthier, smoother and clearer. Conversely, the wrong formulas can actually lead to more trouble. So consider your needs: if you’re dry or sensitive, avoid foaming-anything and fragranced products. A little spotty? Products with glycolic or salicylic acid keep oil and bacteria in check. And everyone should add antioxidants like brightening vitamin C and green tea—they fight free radicals, prevent collagen breakdown and repair sun damage.

ISABEL
Have you had a mentor in your life who has helped you? I have been lucky enough to have several, but my first one was also my hero— that was my dad.
Want to help? raise.org.au
Huntington
How do you inspire people to help others? It seems to me that most people actually want to help, they just don’t know where to start. The beauty of being a Raise Mentor is that it’s an easy way to make a very real difference.
The Western Bulldogs footballer, who juggles training with university study, talks beauty, health and what she’d tell her younger self.
Why is mentoring such an important element for young people at risk? When young people are engaged and know people who care about them, they are more like to grow into happier and healthier adults who have hope for the future.
What drew you to AFL? My two footy-mad older brothers! At age five, I instantly fell in love with the game. Your life is a balancing act between sport and study—what is the key to the juggle, for you? The balance can be incredibly difficult at times, but having sport and study means I don’t become too consumed with either one. On a day-today basis, organisation is key! Keeping busy actually tends to make me more productive.
How can we champion the people around us? By walking in their shoes.

Soul-searching on a beach 11 years ago sparked an idea that not only changed the life of Vicki Condon, but the thousands of at-risk young Australians she has matched with volunteer mentors through Raise, her charity supported by the Priceline Sisterhood Foundation. When you wrote your business plan for Raise, you put it into a drawer? I had a crisis of confidence, but a few months later our family experienced the death by suicide of a family friend’s 14-year-old son, and on the day of his funeral I pulled out the plan and registered the organisation with ASIC, hoping that if we could help just one young person, then it would be worth it.
What keeps you balanced? Listening to my team, reading all my messages each day, time out with my family, swimming in the ocean... and hot chips with gravy! How has your self-worth changed with life experience and success? I was a shy and unconfident young person, but I have become stronger and more positive as I’ve got to know myself throughout the challenges that life has inevitably thrown at me. How do you take care of your skin? My clever and beautiful mum taught me to cleanse and moisturise my skin every morning from a young age, and that’s all that I still do. I have quite dry skin, so every now and then I exfoliate too. When you want to feel nurtured, where do you turn? My big indulgence in life is deep tissue massage. If I can throw in a coconut cream body masque and a long lunch, even better. I’m good to go. 1. L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Filler Ampoules 7 x 1.3mL, $49.99. 2. Kotia Rejuvenating Serum 50mL, $74.99. 3. Hollywood 3-in-1 Shoe Comfort Kit, $14.99.

Who inspires you? Our three incredible (adult) children inspire me every single day. My husband and I feel like we’re actually living with flatmates now—I would choose my children as my friends.

Your work takes care of so many people—how do you take care of yourself? I’m an introvert, so for me to be able to give to others I need time to myself pretty regularly... and a lot of chocolate!
VICKI
you
What have been the most pivotal points in your sporting career? Getting drafted to the Western Bulldogs and debuting for the team are my most memorable moments, and being around a group of incredibly inspiring women has given me the opportunity for tremendous personal growth. Whilst my injuries, notably two knee reconstructions, have been huge battles for me, the resilience and perspective I’ve developed throughout the recoveries has been pivotal in shaping the footballer I am today. Where does confidence come from, for you? Mostly from the great people around me— they allow me to realise my worth and build myself up. How do we encourage girls to get into competitive sports? Is there still work to do? The outdated notion of female “fragility” that previously discouraged women and girls from playing sport, particularly contact sport, is now well and truly out the door. But there’s still work to do. Encouraging girls to love and embrace their bodies and their physical abilities, regardless of their size, shape, age or culture, is vital. What might surprise people to learn about you, off the field? I love footy but I’m actually very into my studies as well. I’ve even been described as a bit of a nerd by friends! What would be your advice to your younger self, knowing what you do now? Don’t let anyone
tell you that you’re incapable of something because of who you are. Stand up for what you believe in and call things out that go against this, even if it feels uncomfortable.
1 2
What is your beauty regimen? It’s relatively simple. I prefer a natural look given I’m running around a lot, so my routine relies mostly on good, daily skincare. Exfoliating, cleansing and moisturising are all vital—and I always have face wipes to freshen up after training. What are your makeup essentials? When it comes to makeup, concealer, BB cream and mascara are what I use most. What is your relationship with your body and selfimage as you get older? Over time, I’ve learnt to love and appreciate my body. As a young girl playing a traditionally male-dominated sport, I was constantly told that my body was “too muscly” or “not feminine enough”, which made me feel ashamed. As I’ve grown up and society has progressed, I’ve learnt that diversity is beautiful!

ne of the most compelling reasons to go bold? Swiping on colour instantly pulls your look together... and it’s certainly faster than playing up your eyes. The key is to let your mouth take centre-stage by keeping the rest of your makeup pared back. That means groomed brows, a radiant foundation and a few swipes of mascara. Use a lip brush—it will help you get a more precise application. And finally, pick your finish based on preference. Whether you take inspiration from Sarah’s classic matte lip, Olivia’s creamy red or Aluel’s high-shine red, the only thing that really matters is that you wear what you love.

This timeless look is the LBD of your makeup arsenal. The trick to perfectly smoldering eyes is to build colour 3 slowly... and have some fun.

n the case of a smoky eye, you’re only as good as your tools. There’s a reason makeup artists blend with brushes—the results are softer and more flattering. Choose one that is small and flat with fluffy bristles. Whether you want a dramatic look (black and grey shades) or a softer one (shimmering browns and coppers), the rules of smoking are the same. Choose the darkest shade in your palette and dust it across your lids. Then add an extra layer on the outer corners. Smudge a black liner along your top lashes and then dust a paler shadow under the lower lashes. To finish, swipe on lash-lengthening mascara.

comprehensive skincare routines. Up to eight products layered on the skin for the ultimate skin rejuvenation and glow. If you can’t manage that level of care, then make sure you remove your makeup properly with a gentle cleanser, hydrate and always wear sunscreen.
For skin that looks tired, what is the best fix? While illuminating primers and hydrating foundations can brighten your complexion, the first things to do are drink water, sleep and de-stress your system. If that’s not possible, lucky for us there are now some incredible beauty ingestibles available to support skin from the inside. Bioglan’s Inner Glow Beauty Powder will up your levels of collagen, minerals and hydration, Swisse’s Radiant Skin capsule with vitamin C supports healthy skin structure and function while the Vierra Marine Supreme Essence is Australia’s first cosmeceuticalgrade beauty supplement… you just take one small bottle per day.
What should someone focus on if they only have a few minutes to get ready? First, even out your skintone by covering under-eye circles, pigmentation and spots with a good concealer or foundation. A brush blends faster, so saves time. Next, curl your lashes and apply volumising mascara. It really makes your eyes pop. Finally, add cream or powder bronzer or blush to cheeks for a healthy glow that lifts your whole look. For a woman who likes more coverage, but has lines, what is the best formula? If you’re finding that makeup exaggerates the wrinkles by creasing, apply a high-pigment, long-lasting formula in a very thin layer. It gives you the coverage without creasing.

Laidlaw
Priceline’s makeup director shares the essential ingredients and pro tips for a flawless complexion at any age.
When it comes to glowing skin, how do you like to prep skin? Glowing skin can’t be achieved by a one-off application of primer or makeup… the skin underneath needs to be exfoliated regularly and hydrated effectively. Our skincare routines have become so complicated. What steps really matter? The celebrities and models I’ve worked with over the years who have the most incredible skin, have the most
34
What’s the best way to highlight the skin? Whether you opt for a powder or cream formulation, apply highlighter to the high points of the face where the light falls… the tops of the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose and the top ridge of the cupid’s bow of your lips. Do you recommend women use a primer? Primers are so helpful in smoothing out the texture of the skin prior to foundation application… and they really help your base last throughout the day. What’s the trick to making fake lashes look most natural? There are some amazing false lashes on the market. For a more “natural” finish, look for shorter lengths and more spindly, uneven ends to the lash hairs. The more solid the edge of the lash looks in the pack, the more dramatic it will be on the eye. A clearband at the base helps too. For those with sensitive skin, what are some great skincare and makeup formulas that won’t cause a flare-up? A good place to start is with La Roche-Posay, a brand with highly effective products that can be tolerated by a range of skin concerns, plus makeup geared towards sensitive skins. MOISTURISERS
The most transformative step in your skincare regimen is actually the most basic. Hydrating ingredients protect your barrier, plump fine lines and make skin glow.
EYE SPY
This delicate area ages quickly. The latest under-eye formulas are packed with ingredients like caffeine and hyaluronic acid, to help you look well-rested (even when you’re not).
What ingredients should a woman add to her routine as she gets older? There are several: when it comes to hydration, ceramides and hyaluronic acid are crucial. In anti-ageing terms, the more hydrated your skin is, the more youthful it will look. Glycolic acid gently dissolves the bonds between dead skin cells to improve skin texture, tone and pore size, as well as boosting collagen and elastin in the skin. Just start gradually as it can be irritating. And if you’re dealing with any kind of redness or irritation, niacinamide is a good pick.

SUNSCREEN SPF

Serums, essences and boosters are the best way to ensure powerful, skin-smoothing actives are absorbed deep into your skin where they can repair and reboot.
Is sunscreen the only ingredient I need to protect skin? Sunscreen is number one, but vitamin C is an antioxidant I recommend adding to your routine, as it help neutralise the skindamaging free radicals caused by exposure to environmental factors such as sun and pollution. It also interferes with the production of excess pigment in the skin, helping to visibly fade spots and discolouration. Just be sure to look for vitamin C formulas housed in dark, opaque bottles, and store them in a cool, dark place, like a drawer. Do we all need to use retinol? Retinol speeds up cell turnover and targets fine lines and sun damage. They can cause dryness, redness and flaking—but if you ease in, you can avoid a rough transition. It’s often recommended that you either layer it on top of your moisturiser or mix them together. Count on 12 weeks to six months before seeing results from over-thecounter retinoids.

To powder or not to powder… when is it a good idea? When you want a super-perfect matte finish to your foundation or you have an oily T-zone, powder is your friend. When you have lines or wrinkles, it’s not.

ithout doubt, one of the fastest ways to address whatever skin concern you may have—be it skintone, lines and wrinkles or dullness—is with a fast-absorbing serum. Applied to clean skin before moisturiser, serums not only deliver active ingredients to the skin efficiently, but they’re easy to customise because you can layer two or three in one go. Next up, sheet masks are your best best for tackling problems quickly, such as saturating inflamed skin in vitamin B3 or dull skin in hyaluronic acid. Specific night-time formulas are worth investing in too, as that’s when skin has been shown to do the majority of healing. Finally, don’t

ne of the easiest ways to improve hair health is also the most economical: wash your hair less. Water makes the strands swell, which forces the cuticle up and can lead to breakage or frizz. Instead, embrace dry shampoo. When you do wash, stock your shower with formulas that contain proteins that will repair and strengthen hair. THE health FIX
When it comes to iron, what are some red flags that you might need a supplement? Look out for symptoms such as extreme fatigue, headaches, dizziness or lightheadedness, cold hands and feet, brittle nails and a poor appetite.
Always read the label. Follow the directions for use.
What’s the best vitamin combination to nip a cold in the bud? Any formula with ingredients such as andrographis, echinacea, olive leaf, vitamin C and zinc. They’ve been formulated to provide relief of symptoms of mild upper respiratory tract infections and decrease the severity and duration of colds.
The latest vitamin formulations can boost your sense of wellbeing and protect your future health. Our experts help you find the blend for you. What vitamin routine do we need in our twenties? If you are not consuming enough red meat to get your iron intake and feel exhausted and tired, taking iron supplements can help. The B vitamins can improve energy, focus and stress levels. Additionally, if you’re not consuming enough healthy fats and Omega-3 fatty acids, try a fish oil supplement too. How do those needs change if a woman plans on having children? Adding an iron and folic acid supplement will help prepare your body for a healthy pregnancy. Additionally, vitamin C helps to protect skin from dryness, wrinkles and UV damage.

What supplements boost wellbeing in our forties and beyond? On the approach to menopause, women may experience hot flushes, bloating, irregular sleep patterns and mood changes. Taking supplements with ingredients such as black cohosh, flaxseed, red clover, wild yam, ginseng, DHEA, dong quai and probiotics can help control those symptoms. And for our fifties and beyond? Once you’ve fully transitioned into menopause, you’re most susceptible to major bone-density loss, making calcium and vitamin D supplements a crucial choice. For more information, take a look at priceline.com.au/pharmacy-services, or come in and speak to a Priceline pharmacist.
Is there any truth that supplements can boost our skin, nails and hair from the inside out? Yes. Biotin may reduce breaking and splitting of nails; zinc helps to maintain healthy skin; and lycopene, beta carotene, vitamin E and selenium may help smooth skin too. But most importantly, living a healthy lifestyle, staying hydrated and limiting exposure to UV rays, alcohol, smoking and stress all help to improve your hair, skin and nail health. For further information, visit any of our 1000+ pharmacists available in all Priceline Pharmacy stores.

Your supplement routine should reflect who you are today—but perhaps more importantly, how you want to feel tomorrow. The most important thing is to be patient and give them time to work. Boosting your system and improving your sense of wellbeing isn’t always an overnight thing.

Pharmacist ADVICE
At what age should we start thinking about bone health? We achieve peak bone mass when we’re 30. After that, being a healthy weight and engaging in specific types of exercise can help build and maintain strong bones. A consistent diet high in protein and calcium is also crucial to help protect our bone health.

Travelling on planes, it’s so easy to get sick! What can we do? First, always sanitise hightouch areas by wiping down those surfaces with an alcohol-based wipe or gel. Stay hydrated during flights and take immuneboosting supplements.

Is it true that liquid formulas are the most effective? Yes, they are much more readily broken down and absorbed by our bodies. And with the right supplement, you’ll soon have more energy, healthier-looking skin and a normal appetite.
When a woman is feeling depleted and tired, beyond iron, what else can help? Besides a diet in high iron intake, vitamin formulas with ingredients such as ginseng, guarana and chromium picolinate can all help to increase energy levels.
