PRESIDENT’S WELCOME
Dear Shamrock Family,
Welcome to our 56th Annual Green & Gold Gala! We are honored you have returned home for a night of friends, food, and fond memories.
Tonight we celebrate Saint Patrick’s largest and most important fundraiser of the year. Our gym is full of loyal Shamrocks, and it is humbling to see so many of you show in support of our young men.
The most prestigious Saint Patrick Legacy Award is presented tonight to Dr. Joseph G. Schmidt. Recipients of this award are loyal Shamrocks who represent the values of Saint Patrick, and who demonstrate an extraordinary lifelong commitment to its tradition. The Legacy Award is one of our school’s highest honors. We congratulate and show our sincerest gratitude to Dr. Joe and his wife, Sheryl.
Additionally, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the commitment and tireless effort of the many people who made tonight possible. We thank our many sponsors for their partnership and generosity. Thank you to Mary Beth Gerlach, proud parent of Frankie ‘23 and the Saint Patrick Institutional Advancement team for your hard work and planning. Our alumni and parent volunteers are among the very best, and we thank you for your time and talent to ensure tonight’s success. The effort put forth by everyone will indeed be felt by the students who are here now and by those who are yet to come.
Lastly, I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Saint Patrick High School Board of Trustees for their time, talent, treasure, and

dedication to the mission of our school. Your servant leadership is a true blessing to our school community. We will forever be grateful for your commitment to the Home of the Shamrocks.
Let us enjoy a wonderful evening in celebration of our Faith, Tradition, and Brotherhood, but most importantly, the young men who attend Saint Patrick High School.
Saint John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us. Blessed Brother James Miller, pray for us. Live, Jesus, in our hearts forever!
Gratefully,
Dan Santucci

CONGRATS TO OUR DEAR FRIEND JOE SCHMIDT!
FROM MICK'S DEAN, TO CONOR'S PRINCIPAL, TO JACK'S PRESIDENT, TO EDDIE'S EMERITUS, DR. JOE HAS BEEN A CONSTANT STRONGHOLD, LEADER, MENTOR AND EDUCATOR.
FOREVER GRATEFUL TO OUR FRIEND, DR. JOE, MICK AND KAREN O’ROURKE AND FAMILY
SAINT PATRICK LEGACY AWARD
Dr. Joe began his teaching career at Saint Patrick High School in the fall of 1967. After graduating from Purdue University, majoring in Management, he earned his Master’s Degree in School Administration from Loyola University in 1974 and his Doctorate in School Administration from Northern Illinois University in 1989. He was named Principal of St. Pat’s in 1987, becoming the first lay-principal under the new administrative model. After a decade of serving as Principal, Dr. Joe was honored in 1997 with the Christian Brothers’ Midwest District Lasallian Award and was inducted into the Saint Patrick High School Hall of Fame that same year. In 2013, he was appointed the first lay President of Saint Patrick and after 54 years at the school, he retired in 2021 from the “home of the Shamrocks.”
The third of four sons, he and his family have had a long association with the Christian Brothers. He proudly received his “Letter of Affiliation” from the Brothers on October 20, 2010. Dr. Joe, as well as his father and two of his brothers, were graduates of Saint George High School. His father, Carl, served as a member of the St. George School Board and his mother, Catherine, was an officer in the school’s Parents Club.
Dr. Joe has served as the Director of the Western Golf Association since 1999 and was inducted into the WGA Caddie Hall of Fame in 2021. He has played an integral role in helping guide countless Shamrocks in the direction of earning the Evans Scholarship. He remains active with the Evans Scholars Foundation at St. Pat’s and McHenry Country Club. He resides in McHenry with his beautiful wife, Sheryl.

LASALLIAN MEDALLION PLEDGE
Each spring, current Juniors will receive the Lasallian Medallion during a newly-formed ceremony called The Brotherhood Ceremony, replacing the former Junior Ring Mass. This change aims to ensure inclusivity, allowing all juniors to partake in the special ceremony irrespective of their intentions regarding the ring and associated expenses. This ceremony is now a staple for every junior class, making this a tradition for future generations.
The Lasallian Medallion symbolizes the constant reminder to keep God close, to carry out the Lasallian traditions, and to always uphold the values instilled in you during your formative years here at Saint Patrick High School. Let this be a reminder to keep Jesus in your heart forever.
Tonight, all Saint Patrick High School alumni present will receive a Lasallian Medallion. As part of the ceremony, attendees will recite the following pledge:
I promise to uphold and preserve the high standards and expectations that have been set by my brothers before me, and will continue these for the brothers who come after me. We have no greater obligation than to make sure that each young man joining our ranks is prepared to become, through faith, tradition, and brotherhood, the best man he can be in the church and the world. I wear this medal to remind me of the pledge I have made today. I will not fail.
Thank you to Melisa Moroko, Ellen Moosa, and Jodi Ruemelin for their contributions to the creation of this cherished tradition.
