Speaker Profiles Dr Nick J. Watson is Senior Lecturer in Sport, Culture and Religion and head of student pastoral care (in sport) at York St John University (YSJU), UK, where he was the Founding Director of the Centre for the Study of Sport and Spirituality (2003-2009). Nick has co-authored/edited co authored/edited six books on sport and religion, most recently, Sports, Religion and Disability (2014) and Sports and Christianity: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives (2013). In addition to having coached athletes with disabilities, Nick has significant experience coaching football, in Spain, America and the UK.

Dr. Kevin O’ Gorman, SMA, is Lecturer in moral theology at the Pontifical University at Saint Patrick's College, Maynooth. His research interests centre on Moral Theology and Canon Law, Ethics and Culture and Sport, Morality and Faith. His publications include, lude, Saving Sport, published by Columba Press in 2010.

Dr. Eamon O'Shea is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics at NUI, Galway and is a Whitaker Institute Research Associate, principally involved with the delivery of Whitaker Institute's socioso economic research in conjunction with the Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI). Dr. O’ Shea is also the current manager of the Tipperary Senior Hurling team.


Speaker Profiles Dr. Mark Nesti is a specialist in applied sport psychology, especially in relation to professional sport including football. especially He has worked in Premier League football as first team counselling sport psychologist at Bolton Wanderers 20032003 2007, Newcastle United 2007-08, 2007 08, and at Hull City 2008-09. 2008 His most recent books, both published published by Routledge, focus on Applied psychology and Premiership football (2010) and Sport, ethics and spirituality (2011). Mark has been a BASES accredited sport psychologist since 1990 and has worked with a range of sports at different levels of performance, perfo from club to Olympic standard.

Rev. John Boyers founded SCORE (the previous name of Sports Chaplaincy UK) in 1991. He is based in Manchester, where he is Chaplain to Manchester United Football Club. Prior to that he was Chaplain to Watford F.C. John has played an integral part in the organising of sport chaplaincy at a number of Commonwealth and Olympic Games.

Fr. Tom Fogarty is President of St. Patrick’s College, Thurles. His research interests include exploring the links between religion and sport. He is also a former manager of the Tipperary and Offaly Senior Hurling Teams.
