ST PETER’S 8-13 NEWSLETTER
Our Seven Key Values are Friendship, Trust, Wisdom, Compassion, Endurance, Humility, Hope Collaboration and Empathy...
Welcome back and Happy New Year! It has been so good to have the school full of busy, happy and chatty children again. It is great to see some of the girls taking up the option to wear school trousers now that they are available on the uniform list. We will also be introducing school shorts (the same design as those worn at St Peter’s 2-8) as an option from the summer term, for both boys and girls to wear throughout the year. They will be available on the School Blazer website. If you are buying trousers or shorts from places other than School Blazer can you please ensure that the style and colour is as close a match to the official school ones.
The date of the summer term Exeat is being changed from Saturday 7th May to Saturday 14thMay. I hope this does not inconvenience anyone who may have had plans for the 7th. If this is the case, then please do get in touch with me. Yesterday I went to evensong at York Minster, where the choristers were singing in their first service after finishing on Christmas Day. Please do remember that you can attend evensong at 5.30pm on any weekday, with the choristers singing on Tuesday – Fridays. It is worth getting there for 5.15pm and the service finishes by 6.15pm. It is lovely way to have some time out to reflect at the end of a busy day and the order of service lets you know what is happening if you have not been to such a service before. Unfortunately, it looks like we are in for more roadworks on the main road outside of the school in coming weeks. Further details can be found here. In today’s assembly I was talking about the importance of creativity and how it is a skill we can all develop, using Rich McCor as one example. You can find him on Instagram at @PaperBoyo and watch a short video of his work here. Finally, can I remind you to please use this form when informing the school of a positive LFT or PCR result. This ensures that all the correct people get the information in a timely manner.

Christmas Term 2 2
Salvation Army We have received a huge thank you from Major Dunkinson at the Salvation Army. 'This year we have provided 731 children referred to us with Christmas presents. The number of referrals were higher than last year and with your generosity and support, we have ensured that everyone had the Christmas that all children deserve.'
“Yorkshire’s Got Talent” Virtual Contest Open for its Second Year The online talent contest which is open to all ages and took place across Yorkshire last year returns for a second time, with an open invitation for performers to take part. The competition was the brainchild of the Joseph Rowntree Theatre’s Young Ambassador, Hannah Wakelam, who has recently announced a judging panel of no fewer than three West End stars for this year’s contest. The event is being organised to help support the theatre’s “Raise the Roof” appeal. Entrants are being invited to submit their audition tapes by 22nd January to be considered for the following round. The ten most successful performers, as decided by a public vote, will be joined by three wildcards of the judges’ choosing. Last year’s worthy winner was Ed Atkin, who has since embarked on a course of vocational music study. He was the headline act in the showcase of the finalists at the theatre which was held in September 2021.
Hannah says, “Last year’s competition was really popular and gave performers from all across our region the chance to compete for a £250 cash prize and to perform on the Joseph Rowntree Theatre’s stage. We had to wait a while until we were able to put the show on because of COVID restrictions but the final show was well worth the wait. The feedback from all of the audience, which included The City of York’s Civic Party, was amazing! One of the highlights of the show was when the cast members had the chance to meet the Civic Party backstage once the curtain had come down." To enter this year’s contest, please send your audition tapes to Hannah at hannah.wakk@gmail.com and make a minimum donation of £5 to the Joseph Rowntree Theatre’s Just Giving page. The link to the page is https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ygt22 . Please also add your name, age and a little bit about yourself. There will be three further rounds of the competition, which will all be judged by the panel of professional performers, Nathan Lodge, Laura Pick and May Tether. For the final round, you will have the amazing opportunity of being mentored by one of the judges. Following the initial audition submission, each round will be based on a theme, to be announced at the beginning of each round. Dan Shrimpton, Chair of Trustees of the charity says, “What makes this competition exciting to us, as a hub for community theatre across the whole of the Yorkshire region, is that, as the competition gets better- known, we can see what talent the wider region has to offer.”
