MONDAY
As part of Children’s Mental Health week, each day we have focused on one of the five ways to wellbeing with different daily activities taking place in all three parts of the school. All the activities have been created by the staff and pupil wellbeing team and as you can see, we have had a wonderful week. On Monday to notice, we listened to Nimrod by Elgar. On Tuesday, to connect, the children made ‘Kindness Jars’; empty jars were decorated with love on the outside and filled with kindness messages. These were then delivered around the school by our Wellbeing Champions, for children to select a message to read. One of our favourite messages was ‘Kindness is spreading sunshine into peoples’ lives regardless of the weather.’ On Wednesday, to be active, the children were taught ‘Super mood movers’ by our Wellbeing Champions. They taught each class a movement activity which you can join here by following this link. https:// www.bbc.co.uk/teach/supermovers/pshesuper-mood-movers-wellbeing/zpxc3j6 On Thursday, to learn, the children memorised a poem, ‘Kind Hearts are the Gardens’ by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Each class performed it and there a links to 2H and 1E here. On Friday, to give, the Wellbeing Champions sold wellbeing badges reading #TalkAwayNotWalkAway. It really has been a wonderful week and a wonderful opportunity to promote positive mental health and wellbeing in our school community. In Reception and Nursery, the children focused on their wellbeing; there were manicures, foot massages, spa treatments and hair salons to name a few. Jemima and Charlotte in Year 1 came into my office during a meeting and decided to give Mr Roberts and me a manicure and because they did such a wonderful job, Mr Walker popped into Year 1 over

PSHE during Children’s Mental Health Week 2022 In PSHE lessons this week the children from Reception to Year 3 created their own support balloons to help them to think about all of the people who help them to grow emotionally and try new things making them resilient, self-confident and self-aware. They then joined the names with lines to create their support network and add themselves in the basket of the hot air balloon. This reminds the children of the people in their support network and how we can all help and support one another. The children used these to talk about the importance of accepting challenge and being open to new experiences, even those we think we might not like. They talked about how doing difficult things are often the most rewarding in the end. The children also considered people who might not have a support network and how that would affect them and how it is vital to show empathy and be supportive of everyone in school making sure we notice and include every person in our school community and beyond. This is the film from Place 2 Be for the activity https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=9XVOnukmI5Y

PLAYGROUP We are delighted to announce that our playgroup will recommence on Thursday 3rd March. More details to follow.
MUSICAL NOTES We seem to be hurtling at great speed towards half term! The choir are in really good voice ready for their concert next week! The concert recording will be available after half term, something for everyone to look forward to! Year 3 have been busy this week in their instrumental classes. 3S have been getting to grips with the Woodwind family, playing flutes and clarinets. Both instruments are perfect for little hands, the curved head on the flutes make them short enough for small arms to reach and the plastic clarinets have a small mouthpiece which makes them easier to play! Reception and Year 1 have made a start with their own compositions this week. Reception have been experimenting with sounds suitable for animals which jump and Year 1 have begun to think about a shimmering start to their Magic Faraway Tree piece. Year 2 have been busy describing Alice’s character ready to put her to music next week and Year 3 have been thinking about how to pass round a motif ready for their Beethoven inspired composition. A really creative time has been had by all!
PE Year 1 have started to look at magical places in their dance lessons. Most recently the children have looked closely at knights, dragons and castles. They were able to detect the characteristic movements of a knight and a dragon. They then incorporated galloping like a knight on a horse into their warmup games.
Flockhart was very impressed with the imagination used to come up with spiky turrets, flags on top and bridges at the front of the castle.
In Netball, Year 1 have continued to work on their pivoting skills during the warmup. The children put their chest passes to the test with a This week we looked partner. Looking at closely at castles and accurate passes, how we could use our ensuring they had their bodies to mirror the hands out ready to catch building. The children the ball to protect their were asked to work in face, ensuring they pairs collaboratively to stepped as they extended think of numerous ways the ball out in front to they could create a provide power behind the castle. We also introduced the order to make a overhead pass this week, successful castle shape which led to some very before representing back powerful yet slightly to their peers. Miss wayward passes!
CONKERS
Oh how we love to be BUSY in Conkers......... Busy making, busy creating, busy exploring, busy re-enacting, busy shovelling, busy climbing, busy building, busy sharing with friends...BUSY having fun!!
This week in Reception has been all about looking after ourselves as we have participated in Mental Health Week. We have been learning how our physical and mental health are often connected and how diet and exercise can help us to feel better, as can relaxation and feeling calm. We have been learning different ways to help us feel better if we are feeling sad, worried, or angry, from mindful breathing, talking to a friend, or saying something kind to make someone else smile. Our spa has been a real hit with the children, and they have loved relaxing in it and getting a foot or hand scrub from a friend. The children have made their own sugar scrubs and lavender bags using cupfuls of ingredients to reinforce our capacity learning in maths from last week. We have also created a yoga den in the play loft where the children can go and practice
RECEPTION their yoga moves and use QR codes to listen to follow an episode of Cosmic Yoga. At snack time Stuart the chef has kindly provide us with a rainbow display of fruit and vegetables, which we have enjoyed chopping to ensure we are getting all the different vitamins we need to help us feel fit and strong. A large part of mental health is how we interact with others and often doing a kind deed can help us feel better too, so this week instead of Forest School we went out litter picking to help improve the environment around us for everybody. On top of all this, chocolate cookies have been baked in our baking area- who doesn't feel better after a chocolate cookie, in moderation of course!
RECEPTION
YEAR 1 What an eventful and exciting week we have had in Year 1. Another land has stopped at the top of the Faraway Tree, ‘The Land of Do-As-YouPlease’. At the start of the week the poor teachers were tied up and a spell was cast on them by Moonface and Silky, meaning that the children were in charge for part of the morning and could do as they pleased! Lots of fun in the classrooms and a few cheeky children seeing what they could get up to. We have also been discussing some big philosophical questions and debating in the
classroom this week, such as ‘should we have rules in the world?’ The boys and the girls also set a weekly challenge for each other, so the children have been exploring areas of the classroom that they may not normally gravitate towards which has been lovely to see. We have also been writing our very own ideas about what we would do in the land of ‘Do-As-YouPlease’ - lots of children would eat a lot of sweets and ice cream! A super week and we can’t wait to see what land arrives at the top of the tree for our final week of this half-term next
YEAR 1
YEAR 2 This week has been Children's Mental Health Week and Year 2 have been completing activities around the 5 ways to wellbeing through our friend the Cheshire Cat. The children have been focusing on 'Connect' by giving random acts of cat-ness to staff and pupils around school in the shape of pink wafers! We also explored 'Notice' by thinking about what makes us grin like a Cheshire Cat! Other activities we have enjoyed this week have included making Cheshire Cat grins using apples, mini marshmallows and Biscoff spread, as well as stripey split pin cats. We have also enjoyed reading chapter 6, Pepper and Pig, and we recapped the
story of Alice in Wonderland so far by discussing the problems which Alice faced throughout her adventure. We then looked at solutions she came up with to overcome these. In maths, we have been in a fraction frenzy! The children kicked off the week by making one of the Queen of Hearts' favourite snacks, jam sandwiches, which we then halved and quartered equally. We expanded on this by designing our own pizzas and dividing these into sixths and eighths. We are incredibly excited for our school trip on Friday to Northwood Trail Fairy Sanctuary which we hope will get our imaginations ticking as much as Lewis Carroll's.
YEAR 2
Our work this week has centred around the theme explorers. We researched famous polar explorers, including Jade Hameister and Sir Ranulph Fiennes, and created discovery cubes and talking photos about our favourite explorers. We created polar bear tracks at forest school using natural material and could not believe how big polar bear's feet are! Did you know they can be up to be 30cm? As well as exploring the arctic, we have focused on taking care of our well-being as part of Children's Mental Health Week. This year's theme was growing together, and we enjoyed considering how we have grown, and how we can help others grow. We performed poetry and wrote our own poems around the theme of kindness. During our art
YEAR 3
afternoon, we explored the work of Vincent van Gogh and created a Year 3 collaborative piece of art to illustrate how we are growing together. The Year 3 well-being champions enjoyed delivering kindness jars to each classroom and delivered well-being workshops. In maths we have been very busy solving problems involving money. Some of the tricky two and even three step problems ensured we practised endurance and perseverance! It was a delight to see such great collaboration too.
