On Sunday we had our Summer Fair, Clif-fest. It was incredibly well attended despite the high winds that contributed to some logistical issues for stall holders and bouncy castles! The children had a wonderful time taking part in many activities that were organised both outside and in the Sports Hall. There were birds of prey for the children to hold and I particularly enjoyed watching the children bump into each other in zorbs and the mass tug of war.

day at Sharkfest to end their week. This was a celebration of the children’s learning this term. It began with Shark Walk, where they all ventured down the runway displaying their fabulous shark inspired outfits before spending the afternoon with Billy Hickling from Trash Bang who demonstrated and taught them how to recycle household rubbish into musical instruments. It was a fabulous orchestral delight to the eyes and ears. They then they finished the afternoon on an inflatable obstacle course where we soon discovered the fastest swimmers from the shiver of sharks gliding across the course, before finishing the day with an ice-cream. What a wonderful day they have all had and my thanks to the Year 1 team for creating such a fun day for them all. Mrs Argo in Nursery will be moving from full-time to part-time next term. I am pleased to announce that Michelle Rice will be job sharing the Teaching Assistant role in Conkers from September. I am sure the whole school community will welcome Michelle and our new SENCO, Kirsty Swales when they take up these positions in September. They are both really looking forward to getting started. Mrs Hallgate has also reduced her hours and is no longer in school on a Tuesday. Miss Emily Clarke will be working in the office on Tuesdays, one or two of you may have already met Emily. Please do make sure you email any absences or requests through to the School Office email so that Emily can access them in Mrs Hallgate’s absence. Next week Year 2 will be off to Bridlington on Monday. Fingers crossed for a nice sunny day for them all. The Nursery Graduation is on Wednesday 6th July, refreshments will be available from 1.15pm with the event starting at 1.45pm and then our grand finale will be our End of Year Review and Celebration on Thursday 7th July at 2.00pm in the Memorial Hall at St Peter’s 13-18, followed by refreshment in the marquee on Jelbert Way. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing the Reception children enjoy their last swimming session tomorrow. With best wishes,

This morning the nursery children had their PE Showcase. It was just so brilliant to watch the children demonstrate to parents all they have learned throughout their lessons this year. It was such a lovely morning and thank you to all the nursery staff and to Miss Flockhart and Miss Hopper for organising such a lovely event. At lunchtime today, Mrs Franey and Mrs Brunton took two children to the launch of the Sunflower Kids Club organised by Mrs Henderson, a parent in Year 3. Two members of the School Council, Hamish and Kate, went along to the launch also as they had suggested it would be a nice idea to idea to raise money for this charity. As a school we are also helping by asking for donations from their wish list to support the Ukrainian children and families living in York. PE On Friday, Nursery took part in their Physical Education Showcase Lesson to their family members and carers. The children thoroughly enjoyed showing off the skills they have learnt this year in PE. The activities demonstrated their fundamental skills through various games, movements and balances. Finally finishing off with a competitive obstacle relay race. Miss Flockhart and Miss Hopper have been super proud of the children’s progress and cannot wait to see the children progress further in Reception. After a busy week last week, the children from Reception to Year 3 recapped their cricket skills from the start of the term and had some fun putting their skills into competitive games. It was fantastic to see all the children working on their hand eye coordination when batting and thinking tactically in the older years where to place their shot depending on where the gaps were in the field. The children where all able to identify when fielding, when it was appropriate to use an overarm or underarm throw, when returning the ball back to the bowler. Overall, Miss Flockhart was extremely pleased with the progress and teamwork skills the children have made through the week.
ACORNS The Acorns had a most wonderful experience by going on a boat trip on the river Ouse. Thank you so much to Elisabetta, Mrs Pennels and Miss Hopper for joining us and to Mrs Hallgate who helped us to organise the trip. The Acorns had such a great day! We started our trip by walking down to the river and waiting on the side while the boat arrived. We heard the horn blowing and were able to get onto the boat.
The weather was very kind to us and so we sat on the top deck. We enjoyed the scenic tour along the river and enjoyed going under the many bridges that York has. When the boat stopped, we made our way down to the river side where we were able to enjoy a delicious ice cream! After a good clean up of sticky hands and faces, we wandered into the museum gardens to enjoy our picnic lunch. We had a play on the tree trunks and logs and then made our way back to school. The children were amazing and we were so proud of them.

Hulk? Unicorn? Tiger? Did you see any of the Conkers in disguise this week? First we needed to write our name on the busy waiting list (as you can imagine this was a VERY popular activity!) Next, we chose a design or created our own. Then, we paired up with a buddy to take turns to paint each other’s faces. Finally, the grand reveal! Oh the joy of face painting!

RECEPTION By the time you read this newsletter there will only be four more days of Reception left. Where has that time flown? The very small little people that walked through our doors in September now all seem several inches taller, have grown in confidence and resilience and are looking forward to their exciting new adventures in Year 1. Whilst we will be sad to see them go we know they are ready to move on and make us proud. What a busy last full week of term we have had! We had a sneaky little
preview visit to the St. Peter’s Memorial Hall to practise our songs for next week. We had a water fight down at Forest School and made sand sculptures in our sand area in preparation for our visit to Filey. And on Friday the great day finally dawned. We set off with great excitement on the coach and had a fabulous day filled with fun, laughter and lots of ice cream. Many thanks to our parent helpers who assisted on the day. What a fabulous end of term treat!

What a FIN-TASTIC week the Year One children have had this week! This week marked a very special end of our Summer theme. The children came to school on Friday dressed up as their favourite Shark to attend 'Shark-Fest!'. The children all looked incredible! Lots of creative outfits were seen and the children had such big smiles on their faces as they arrived!

YEAR 2 We have been very excited to welcome our grown-ups into the Year 2 classrooms this week to celebrate all of the fantastic learning the children have done this term. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to showcase their excellent DT shoebox projects, which they worked so hard on, and used QR codes to share their collaborative animation clips. The children also coached their grown-ups through some science experiments we had completed this term, including a blubber challenge and re-enacting the story of Freddie the Fish who stumbled across lots of different types of water pollution on his journey. All of Year 2 had a fantastic time baking
down at the 8-13 cookery room. They followed a recipe carefully using their reading and collaboration skills, and used the equipment sensibly. We hope you enjoyed being our taste testers! Art Wednesday had a bit of a twist this week; the children drew their own under the sea pictures which we printed on to t-shirts and we also enjoyed recreating Edward Hopper's Lighthouse Hill picture using soft pastels. The children have been working hard rehearsing for their end of year production and we look forward to welcoming you back next week for a sing along. One more week to go Year 2, let's make it a wonderful final week!
YEAR 2
YEAR 3 We had a great adventure travelling across America, from San Francisco to New York, with Phileas Fogg this week! Along the way we were faced with many obstacles, including a very wobbly bridge, that required us to engage our engineering skills!
When we finally arrived in New York, we enjoyed exploring how the skyline of the city had evolved over time. We spoofed famous buildings, including the Empire State Building and Rockerfeller Centre, and created our own pieces of art inspired by the shapes and styles We worked collaboratively to investigate paper of the skyscrapers. bridges and how simply folding a piece of In maths, we have been exploring mass and paper and adding a channel design gives great capacity, and the children enjoyed the handsstrength and stability. We were amazed that on practical activities to develop their skills of our bridges were strong enough to hold nearly estimating and measuring quantities in litres three hundred counters! and kilograms. We designed our own wind-powered vehicles to help speed up Fogg's journey. We explored the best materials and shape for the sail before putting our vehicles to the test to see which one travelled the fastest and the furthest. It is obvious that we have some budding engineers and designers across the year!
At the end of the week, we opened our classroom doors to share our term’s work with our families; it was great to see the children talk so passionate about their work and they should be extremely proud of all their achievements this term.

CLIF-FEST A HUGE thank you to everyone who came to support Cliffest on Sunday, and particularly to our army of wonderful volunteers, bakers extraordinaire, jolly-jar fillers and our super-generous bottle and book donators - the day couldn’t happen without you and the Friends team are so grateful to you all. We hope everyone had a great day! Next week, we hope to be able to share with you all the amount raised at Clif-fest but for now we are delighted to share that the collection of unused tokens amounted to a donation of £345 which will go direct to the school charity for this year, The Children's Heart Surgery Fund. CAKE TINS/TUPPERWARE
If anyone is still to collect cake tins or tupperware please collect them from the yellow crate in the school foyer as soon as possible. Thanks again to everyone for your help and support, from the Friends of STP2-8.
