Welcome
At St Peter’s School and Nursery, we’re proud to be fun, proud to be different, and proud to put the children at the centre of all we do. At each stage of their learning adventure, we inspire children in a vibrant, collaborative and exciting environment, encouraging everyone to achieve their very best. At St Peter’s we have a unique and progressive approach to learning delivered by creative and dynamic teachers and teaching assistants. Our children are happy and excited to come to school to see what each day will bring. They grow into confident lifelong learners who embrace challenge and relish every opportunity that comes their way. I’m sure that you will enjoy exploring all that our school has to offer, and hope that I can take you on a personal tour in the near future.

A community of
Learners We’re proud of all we achieve as a school every single day, but we’re just as proud to be part of the wider St Peter’s School community. Not only do we share a campus, we share values, and we share a purpose to provide truly outstanding education. Our pupils look up to and learn from those at St Peter’s 8-13 and St Peter’s 13-18, with pupils from the other two schools (many of whom started here at St Peter’s 2-8) often helping out in our lessons. Our older pupils love the opportunity to buddy up with newcomers, offering a friendly welcome and establishing friendships across the years. Children, parents, teachers and friends all agree that this community is something special, and we hope you will too.

Forest School
There’s lots to excite the imagination in the St Peter’s grounds, and a huge space to explore. Little adventurers can roll down grassy banks or climb up wooden towers, crawl through tunnels, use our giant wooden blocks to work as a team to build a giant fort, or peer out through the windows of a giant tin can rocket. Our wishing well, sandpits, hands-on-garden, wooden throne and wildlife pond offer more peaceful spaces.

How many brushes can you see?
Reception marks the exciting beginning of every child’s journey in full-time education. Days are packed with opportunities for curiosity and creativity and our spacious classrooms are alive with active learning. Our Reception classrooms are in the same building as Years 1 – 3, helping to foster familiarity and confidence in the wider school environment, and forming friendships across academic years.
Thematic learning links subjects seamlessly, giving learning relevance and encouraging children to learn through challenge, creativity and exploration. Over the Easter holidays, Reception children received some curious gifts in the post: a spoon, a sachet of sugar and a scroll that read: “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun…” The children returned to school to find their classroom transformed into a theatre, ready for a private screening of Mary Poppins, the theme that would inspire and support their learning for the term. Girls and boys used their mathematical skills to measure a spoonful of sugar, became scientists to investigate and explain how a kite flies, and expressed their talents in art and design to make bird feeders.

Accompanying children through their learning adventure, our Learning Superheroes embody our school’s learning habits: collaboration, reflectiveness, resourcefulness and resilience. Our children are regularly reminded of these learning habits and encouraged to emulate their Learning Superheroes.

In Year 2, children develop an increasing awareness of themselves as learners, enabling them to tackle more complex skills. It is in Year 2 that pupils are able to take up music lessons with our dedicated music teacher. Everybody has the opportunity to try everything and do it to the best of their ability. Throughout the school, rather than work to a set of rules imposed on the children, we cultivate our school values, which grow inside youngsters at St Peter’s, offering them a guide to behaviour. Our school values are carried through to life at St Peter’s 8-13 and St Peter’s 13-18, developing a strong framework for life.

Year 3
The adventure has only really started...
In Year 3, children build on all they have developed throughout their time at St Peter’s to confidently take on a range of leadership opportunities and responsibilities. As well as being assured and confident learners, Year 3s lead the school as House Captains, manage projects as charity ambassadors, represent the school at sports events and demonstrate their talents at music concerts: the opportunities are endless. Our Year 3s tell us that the skills, qualities and friendships they’ve developed at St Peter’s 2-8 leave them feeling ready, capable and excited for their next steps.

Our inventive thematic approach to our curriculum allows our children to be innovators, creators, thinkers, problem solvers, collaborators and above all themselves. Using a story, novel or theme to fire imaginations and motivate curious minds, we teach all the subjects you would expect, and perhaps some you might not.

Thematic Learning Co-curricular activities
There is no such thing as an ordinary school day at St Peter’s. Aside from the exciting curriculum and the fascinating activities and visitors we enjoy every week, St Peter’s offers over 80 co-curricular activities, ensuring every child can try something different and discover what they enjoy doing. Activities include: Art, Drama, Digital Animation, Ballet, Karate, Explorers, Cooking, Lego, Yoga and The Green Team.
What would you like to do?
Sport is a big part of St Peters life: every class takes two lessons a week with our dedicated and encouraging PE staff. Weekly swimming lessons start in Reception. Using some of our excellent facilities, including the sports hall and swimming pool, children enjoy a range of activities from hockey, tag rugby and netball to gymnastics, dance and water polo. Two lessons each week with our Director of Music provide every child at St Peter’s with opportunities to develop their skills in singing, playing and appreciating a wide range of musical styles. Concerts and performances both within and outside the school develop the children’s confidence and collaboration abilities, whilst Year 2 and Year 3 benefit from lessons in a variety of instruments, ensuring everybody has the chance to find something they enjoy.
