FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

lthough I was no stranger to St. Pius X High School (having visited in a variety of capacities since the 1990s), when I arrived on campus last spring to assume the position of Head of School, I saw the School with fresh eyes. And was I bowled over by what I found: a thriving student population, a dedicated faculty, a dynamic parent community, loyal alumni and a modernized campus—all firmly grounded in the Dominican charism and traditions. At year’s end, SPX was celebrating • Stellar performances by the TAPPS 5A Academic and Fine Arts teams, with an overall second place finish going to the former, and the latter garnering 18 superior ratings • The third addition of the SPX literary magazine, “Of Paws and Pens”, now 100 pages in length with contributions by over 40 St. Pius X students • Boys and girls lacrosse which came on board as varsity sports and members of the track and field teams who established new school records

• A first-place win by the Robotics Club at the VEX Robotics Competition, foreshadowing the introduction of our STREAM program We also said goodbye to seven faculty and staff members—whose years of service to SPX totaled 144—as they entered retirement, and notably to Sister Donna M. Pollard, O.P., as she assumed the role of Prioress of the Dominican Sisters of Houston, after 25 years at the helm of SPX. Through their tireless dedication—and that of so many other members of our community—to our mission, a solid foundation for our future has been laid. The achievements of the 2015-16 academic year, which I am honored to have inherited, are noted in this annual report to donors. I am excited to share them with you. Here is a preview of some of the highlights: • The Class of 2016 earned $7 million in scholarship awards and boasted three National Merit Commended students; 16% of the class were honor graduates • Thirteen student-athletes signed letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic endeavors at the college level

• New scholarships were funded, notably one honoring long-time SPX CFO Allan Minar and one in honor of Misters Panther, Jeff ’11 and Michael ‘15 Bell • Ground was broken and construction neared completion on the $9.1 million White Family Center for the Sciences and Media Our annual report to donors is our thank you note to you—the families, alumni, corporations and foundations—whose support allows our School to flourish and grow. FROM THE BOARD CHAIR

has been a tremendous honor to serve as Chair of the St. Pius X High School Board this year and to grow closer to the Dominican heritage which influences our community through prayer, study, community and preaching. These four pillars set our School apart and provide a foundation for life. I am also very grateful to have the opportunity to work alongside the many dedicated and hardworking board members. This past year has been such a remarkable one in the life of our School. Our beloved Sister Donna was named Prioress of the Dominican Sisters. Following this announcement, our Board named the 11th Head of School of St. Pius X â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Carmen

Garrett Armistead. She is the second lay person to lead the School. The year 2016 also represented the culmination of the Set the World Ablaze campaign as we opened the Raye G. and Edward P. White Family Center for the Sciences and Media. This new building will allow St. Pius X to continue to provide strong academic programs for many future generations of St. Pius X students. Founded in 1956 and built on the Dominican charism, St. Pius X High School continues to provide an outstanding high school experience for our students. Strong academic programs, competitive athletics, award-winning fine arts, faith-based Catholic curriculum and a diverse student community define a St. Pius X education.

I am proud of St. Pius X High School and its continued growth. This annual Roll of Donors recognizes the many members of our community who have supported that growth. However, our work is not done. The dreams and needs of our School are many and our benefactors will find a variety of opportunities to assist in our growth. Please join me in continuing to support St. Pius X High School and to ensure our Schoolâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s success for generations to come.

Publishing the Roll of Donors each year is a small way in which St. Pius X High School can publicly recognize those who have made financial gifts to the School. The Panther track and field team set several school records including the girls 4x100 relay team (Hunter Eriksson, Katelyn Moses, Chinwe Akuechiama, Anna LeBlanc) with a time of 49.79 seconds, the girls 4x200 relay team (Kelsey Scott, Moses, Akuechiama, Eriksson) with a time of 1:45.99 seconds and Nick Wright who reached a height of 9 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault. 2015/2016 ANNUALREPORT

CAPITAL GIFTS The Set the World Ablaze campaign, the largest capital campaign in the history of St. Pius X High School, concluded with the construction of the Raye G. and Edward P. White Family Center for the Sciences and Media. The campaign was conducted in two phases and since its inception raised $10.6 million from over 380 donors representing all constituencies in the SPX community. Thanks to the generosity of parents, alumni and friends of the School, new facilities for our Learning for Success program and for the sciences and media have been constructed, and conferences rooms and offices for staff and administrators have been added to our campus.
