Is change an issue in your organisation?
Helping them feel the excitement, not the fear
How skilled are your managers in communicating around change?
Great conversations...
How successful are they in getting their team members to feel the excitement of change, rather than fearing it?
‘Great’ conversations are also aligned with the culture of the organisation, so that the conversation prompts, promotes and precipitates future success in a real rather than a theoretical way.
Everybody counts Every person in your company has an impact on the big picture. However, their performance is a function of their commitment to the company’s direction, and the motivation and morale with which they embrace change. It is therefore vital that your managers communicate around change in a way that is open and comprehensive, that aligns individual and corporate goals, and that teaches team members that the ambiguity inherent in change may be a permanent, rather than a temporary state, given the constantlyevolving organisation, marketplace and global economy.
Our belief We believe that change is, above all, about communication. We believe that positive response to change springs from productive, sometimes called ‘great’, conversations. ‘Great’ conversations should enable true communication in all directions, leading to real understanding and agreement.
or Poor Conversations... When conversations about change – whether between manager and individual team member, or in larger team meetings – are of insufficient quality, issues are ducked, ignored or confused, people feel that they have not been heard, understanding is blurred or mistaken, and commitment to change is warped, lacking or grudging.
Where we come in Stratagem Learning and Development delivers workshops that build on the self-knowledge that your managers will have gained in undergoing the Insights Discovery Personal Effectiveness Programme. These workshops explore different responses to change, enabling your managers to articulate, recognise and manage those responses, leading to more beneficial dialogue with their team members, finally engendering more positive response to change and enhanced performance during and beyond it.
“They add value by getting under the skin of our business so much that they feel part of the team, whilst maintaining the objectivity to challenge our thinking and help us to find practical, innovative ways to develop our people” Severn Trent Water, October 2008 Stratagem Learning and Development Ltd. Why? Through these workshops, we can help you align your people with your aspirations to achieve the following core benefits: • Shared goals: understanding the business you are in • Shared culture: living the vision and values that bind you together • Shared learning: fostering the need for innovation and improvement • Shared information: enhancing internal communication • Shared effort: working interdependently to deliver results
What? In these workshops, the participants: • Have the opportunity to articulate their own responses to change – change in the wider world, and in their
organisation • See what great (and not so great) conversations about change sound and feel like • Recognise their strengths and their weaknesses in and around managing change • Practise management of change skills in a supportive environment • Commit to working on those personal skills in order to precipitate more productive conversations with
their team members about change
How? A Stratagem intervention: • Delivers – and has the delegates delivering – great conversations • Is, above all else, experiential • Is nevertheless grounded in the latest and most advanced behavioural thinking • Is tailored to our understanding of your specific business goals and current challenges • Presents real feedback from real people within the organisation as a starting point • Employs professional role players to make the conversations ‘real’ • Leaves the organisation and the delegates with a toolkit of skills to make the learning ‘stick’
Who? Stratagem is built around a core team of professionals: • Whose job satisfaction is entirely derived from helping individuals, teams and organisations to perform better • Who respect the theoretical in designing their interventions, but the practical in delivering them • Who believe strongly in the power of high-impact, high-involvement modules • Who have been sharing their knowledge and aggregating their experience for the benefit of client organisations for the last 15 years

NHS
Case Study
Transforming management in NHS procurement What they needed
What we did
To be successful and efficient NHS procurement had to change and build relationships at executive level. Selling themselves and new concepts to deliver a complex commercial agenda. They needed to develop inspirational leaders to make change happen, ensuring that they are fit for purpose both now and in the future.
Following an extremely successful pilot programme, designed jointly with several NHS senior procurement executives, the content was developed into the Procurement Leadership Programme for Service Transformation. A specific mentoring workshop was key to supporting the programme, which is built around the theme of self-awareness. Delegates attend three eight-day modules of ‘off the job’ training with ongoing support from a course coach and their work-based mentor. These intensive, interactive modular courses are of absolute relevance to them, giving delegates the skills and knowledge they can apply at work. Similar to an MBA modular programme, they build on up-todate research and receive a balanced mixture of theory, ideas and practical experience. Using live case studies and creative techniques, they focus on developing an understanding of how you lead change as well as how other people communicate and relate to your own personal style and associated behaviour. Continuing the theme of self-awareness by role-play observation and course coach reviews.
What they said “With Stratagem’s support we cocreated our shared vision, values and initial objectives and then built on this with a robust development plan. Having fun as we learnt and shared experiences was part of Stratagem’s approach to leading our change”. Ian Shepherd Chief Executive, re:source source
