The Mighty Elm Tree

The Mighty Elm Tree

Beneath your majestic yet crooked limbs, Of your splendour and life we are given a glimpse, What do you hear when life walks, crawls or flies near? What do you see as you form shade, an umbrella, a breeze...... Oh great and lofty Elm tree? Squirrels, birds, insects all collected together, Hovering, huddled, protected from the weather. How you’ve lived and seen such a vast life.... History, time, and storms enveloped you with their strife! But now you’ve succumbed, been brought to your knees, As disease ravaged your body with careless relent. We’ve journeyed together with the greatest of ease, As we ponder and traverse through the years ahead.... One day we’ll lament ... I wonder where the Great Elm went?
