A "Black" Man, John Hanson Was the First President of the United States! 1781-1782 A.D.

SAN BERNARDINO

Our mission is to provide a premiere benefit rodeo that will support our commitment to public safety and children through the efforts of the Sheriff’s Equine Organizations. Through our concerted efforts, we will provide a memorable experience for the community and its participants.

Although this event has been around for over 10 years, this was Street Motivation’s first year attending the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Rodeo and yes, it exceeded all expectations. We thank Mr. Ron Mead who made this possible for us to attend and experience an event out of our musical circle. This event has been raising thousands of dollars for groups such as the Boy Scouts, Challenge Children and Sheriff’s Volunteer Forces, their mission is to support other organizations and the good old sport of rodeo. We hope to attend the 2011 Rodeo, and this time we plan on wearing our spurs.

George Washington was really the 8th President of the United States! George Washington was not the first President of the United States. In fact, the first President of the United States was one John Hanson. Don't go checking the encyclopedia for this guy's name he is one of those great men that are lost to history. If you're extremely lucky, you may actually find a brief mention of his name. The new country was actually formed on March 1, 1781 with the adoption of The Articles of Confederation. This document was actually proposed on June 11, 1776, but not agreed upon by Congress until November 15, 1777. Maryland refused to sign this document until Virginia and New York ceded their western lands (Maryland was afraid that these states would gain too much power in the new government from such large amounts of land). Once the signing took place in 1781, a President was needed to run the country. John Hanson was chosen unanimously by Congress (which included George Washington). In fact, all the other potential candidates refused to run against him, as he was a major player in the revolution and an extremely influential member of Congress. As the first President, Hanson had quite the shoes to fill. No one had ever been President and the role was poorly defined. His actions in office would set precedent for all future Presidents.

He took office just as the Revolutionary War ended. Almost immediately, the troops demanded to be paid. As would be expected after any long war, there were no funds to meet the salaries. As a result, the soldiers threatened to overthrow the new government and put Washington on the throne as a monarch. All the members of Congress ran for their lives, leaving Hanson as the only guy left running the government. He somehow managed to calm the troops down and hold the country together. If he had failed, the government would have fallen almost immediately and everyone would have been bowing to King Washington. In fact, Hanson sent 800 pounds of

sterling silver by his brother Samuel Hanson to George Washington to provide the troops with shoes. Hanson, as President, ordered all foreign troops off American soil, as well as the removal of all foreign flags. This was quite the feat, considering the fact that so many European countries had a stake in the United States since the days following Columbus. Hanson established the Great Seal of the United States, which all Presidents have since been required to use on all official documents. President Hanson also established the first Treasury Department, the first Secretary of War, and the first Foreign Affairs Department. Lastly, he declared that the fourth Thursday of every November was to be Thanksgiving Day, which is still true today. The Articles of Confederation only allowed a President to serve a one year term during any three year period, so Hanson actually accomplished quite a bit in such little time. Six other presidents were elected after him - Elias Boudinot (1783), Thomas Mifflin (1784), Richard Henry Lee (1785), Nathan Gorman (1786), Arthur St. Clair (1787), and Cyrus Griffin (1788) - all prior to Washington taking office. So what happened? Why don't we ever hear about the first seven Presidents of the United States? It's quite simple - The Articles of Confederation didn't work well. The individual states had too much power and nothing could be agreed upon. A new doctrine needed to be written - something we know as the Constitution. And that leads us to the end of our story. George Washington was definitely not the first President of the United States. He was the first President of the United States under the Constitution we follow today.

JAYO FELONY www.myspace.com/jayofelony Jayo Felony has been building up to the masterful artistry he achieves on this album for his entire career. Signed by the late Jam Master Jay to his JMJ Records (which had a deal with industry powerhouse Def Jam), Jayo landed spots on the critically acclaimed Jason's Lyric soundtrack in 1994 and on the platinum-plus The Show soundtrack less than a year later. Not bad for an artist without his own album.

As hip-hop continues expanding across the globe, it has moved away from its birthplace: the streets. Lyrical visionary Jayo Felony has seen this shift and with his eagerly anticipated fourth album, the San Diego rap legend returns rap to the streets. "I'm talking about being in the hood," Jayo explains of his new album. "I'm giving it up for the real ones and representing where they're from. There's trenches and hoods all across the world, so it's something that everybody can relate to and get into. It's about the trenches that you represent and I'm letting you know what trenches I represent." With innovative bone-crushing production from Mobb Deep..I'm real happy about the new album. I've got a lot of hot records on this one album. You ain't going to have to fast-forward or none of that. It's an all-the-way-through type of album."

Jayo's first two albums, 1995's "Take A Ride" and 1998's "Whatcha Gonna Do," became West Coast favorites and his smash "Whatcha Gonna Do" single also featured Jayo's Def Jam labelmates DMX and Method Man. As an in-demand guest, Jayo appeared on albums from LL Cool J, Scarface, Ja Rule, Above The Law, E-40 and Snoop Dogg Presents Tha Eastsidaz. After falling out with Def Jam, Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z, Jayo went the independent route and in 2001 released Crip Hop. He wanted to get things off his chest and keep his name in the marketplace. The album sold more than 40,000 units, impressive numbers for an independent release. "Since then, I've just been out here hustling, doing my thing, getting on people's projects, making it happen, working and staying in the studio making new music," he says. "I never stopped working and making new music. I was just waiting for the right opportunity to come along, not rushing into nothing knowing that my lyrics weren't going anywhere and that I was just going to get better and better as I study and practice. I knew I was going to get better with my craft. It was just waiting for the right opportunity to come along where people weren't scared to deal with me and thinking I'm some hot head that just disses everybody, which ain't true. I feel anybody I dissed, I had reason and logic to it. Everybody else can say otherwise, but I know the truth. I was just waiting for the right opportunity to come along and I feel it has." "I've got a mission to prove myself to the people about how talented I really am," Jayo says. "Not just about music, but with the movies I'm about to start doing and the business things I'm putting together. I will prove that I'm one of the best rappers that ever lived. I know for a fact that before it's all said and done, I will be up in the Hip-Hop Hall Of Fame as one of the best. Period."

C-BO Veteran of Hip Hop, Sacramento's C-Bo, released his third collaborative album this week ft. Yuk Mouth. The two independent Rap stars team as the Thugz Lords to release Thug Money on SmokeA-Lot/West Coast Mafia/RBC Records, furthering a lineage that dates back to the early '90s. Yukmouth and C-Bo explained why Thug Lordz is more than another makeshift group collaboration. "Me and [C-Bo] are homeboys and we fuck with each other heavy, so [Thug Lordz] is more than just a group, it's a lifestyle," said Yukmouth speaking with C-Bo. The veteran gangsta rapper originally known as "Cowboy" added, "I've been wanting to work together since I was first listening to Yukmouth, back in the day. He always had his own type of style, so he's always been one of my favorite emcees. To do this album with him is a blessing on my side." Although the two early '90s emcees were from neighborhoods 80 miles apart, they were very much on each other's radars, from the early days of hood cassette tapes. "Hey was my competition in the hood," admitted Yukmouth. "Before I ever came out, niggas was puttin' me against you, it's a lot and a privilege." Although those 80 miles divide Sacramento and Oakland, both emcees insisted that the Thug Lordz show the rest of the west coast the importance of peace and collaboration. "We're showing unity, like how [rappers in the south] are doing. We been doin' that shit. It's just that the rest of the west coast gotta hop on board and team up and really use our talents," said Yukmouth. "Everybody is afraid to do the group shit or put hella people on one song until they go down south and [see] it." As far as why more left coast emcees don't work together is just West coast niggas won't work together, due to so many egos. Me and Bo put away the egos. Hip Hop, period, that's how we do it." In the same year that saw Dr. Dre unavailable to work on N.W.A. brother Ice Cube's latest album, that may be a telling statement.

40 GLOCC

Despite his legal woes, 40 Glocc is continuing to push his music. He's currently promoting his latest single, "Damn" featuring Ray J. 40 Glocc has been at the center of an ongoing gang injunction in San Bernardino County, where he's been accused of touted his gang member status in songs and videos. 40 Glocc, now known as Big Bad 40, has denied the allegations, arguing that his affiliation to the Colton City Crips was strictly for entertainment purposes to boaster his rap career. 40 represented the 40 acres and a mule they never gave us. Glocc represented Ghettos Legally Oppressed with Crooked Cops. A change has come so this change must be recognized," says a focused Big Bad 40. With each step of

self-motivated community service entrepreneurial spirit, the Rapper

BROTHA LYNCH-HUNG knowing he would soon be touring with Strange Music founder Tech N9ne. Taking stage cues from LL Cool J and Run-DMC, Lynch has extensive theatrical plans for his Dinner and a Movie stage show.

“I don’t have to kill anyone. I just think it. It’s all up here. Believe me, if I started killing anyone, there’d be none of you left.”— “The Interrogation”, Dinner And A Movie Brotha Lynch Hung watches a lot of movies, mostly horror flicks. The King of Sacramento also writes screenplays: While penning his first script, he simultaneously wrote his Strange Music debut, Dinner and a Movie. Blurring the line between audio CD and audio book, listeners are sucked into the highly imaginative mind of Lynch as he plays out gruesome tales of murder, violence and deception. Powered by his twisted sense of humor, Dinner and a Movie is both therapeutic and fantastical, as Lynch unleashes his own demons while at the same time creating a character so unlike himself. “Them niggaz think I’m weak cause I’m very nice. All I do is think about eating them every night.” — “Colostomy Bag” Dinner and A Movie, the first of three concept albums Brotha Lynch Hung will release via Strange Music, follows the life of a serial killer that’s slaying rappers in the game. “Back in the day, we used to say eat rappers up or kill rappers off and eat ’em up,” Lynch explains. “That’s basically what I’m doing. On the album it sounds like I’m doing it to people, but it’s really rappers.” Each track on Dinner and a Movie plays out like a scene in a motion picture; a psychotic horror film to be precise. Blending his addiction to court TV and programs about serial killing with his respect for scary cinemateurs like Rob Zombie and Wes Craven, and films like Hostel and Saw, Lynch’s album is the perfect vehicle to explore his fascination with deranged killers. He’s also able to showcase his own ability to switch on and off his double personality: regular person by day, serial killer by night. For Dinner and a Movie, Lynch rounded up a handful of like-minded emcees, including BZO and First Degree The DE, to help him carry out his sonic murder spree. On “Colostomy Bag,” Lynch, G Macc and C-Lim ride a pulsing, piano-driven beat that would make Dr. Dre proud. Produced by Justinn “Axis” Patton, who crafts five tracks on Dinner and a Movie, “Colostomy Bag” transforms mad man humor into a West Coast anthem. Axis also constructs musical mayhem on the pulsating “Murder Over Hard,” punctuated by alarming cymbals and sirens, on which Lynch continues to let his murderous rants loose: “Me and murder are tight like vice grips.” “D.O.A.” and “Nutbagg” are made specifically to rock big crowds. Both produced by Michael “Seven” Summers, Lynch felt the pressure to come with heat

08 | STREET MOTIVATION OCT - DEC 2010

Joining producers Axis and Seven – two of Lynch’s favorite producers of all time who he claims are knocking heads together at the top – is Lynch himself. Lynch has skills: He produced his Gold album, 1995’s Season of Da Siccness. “Another Killin” features Cali superheroes Snoop, Daz and Kurupt. After appearing on one of Snoop’s mixtapes, Snoop returns the favor, taking aim on Lynch’s spray-’em-up joint. “I made the beat,” Lynch starts, “and Daz and Kurupt heard the beat and wanted to get on. I went to bed and when I woke up, they were on it.” “Don’t Worry Mama, It’s Just Bleeding” features Strange Music cohorts Tech N9ne and Krizz Kaliko. The synergy between label mates is evident, as the three spit in sync over a stuttering soundscape. “I love being with Strange,” Lynch assures. “They are the only company that fits me. I’m glad to be part of the family.” A wordsmith who grew up revering Rakim, Lynch’s stories reveal the rapper’s darkest secrets. “Meat” is a dedication to his son when they were separated by his son’s mother. “I Tried to Commit Suicide” details the same situation, with the addition of his daughter being taken from him. “I went crazy because of all the bad stuff that was going on,” Lynch shares about the inspiration for the song’s title. Making albums for Lynch is a distressing, yet cathartic process. “Every time I make an album, I have to go through pain in order to make the songs I want,” Lynch states. “When my mom died, she was trying to stay around for my daughter to be born. In the same hospital that my mother died in, four days later my daughter was born, in the same room. My daughter is my mom reincarnated. If I lose her, I try to commit suicide.” Sprinkled throughout the album are hysterical psycho skits created by Lynch, and produced by Lynch and the amazing Robert Rebeck, who also mixed the entire album for Chapman Recording. The skits are disturbing, yet criminally comical, and string Lynch’s songs along with a raunchy fluidity. According to Lynch, a lot of rappers in the last 10 years came out and ruined the rap game. Now people are scared to buy a whole album because they might only like one song. Lynch wants to dispel those fears by inviting you to Dinner And A Movie. SMART MONEY WAY’S TO SAVE

1. Clip coupons at Coupons.com, SmartSource and PrintableGroceryCoupons.net. 2. Buy generic everything. Many generics are exactly the same as brand names. 3. Buy in bulk and get rewards cards at the supermarket. 4. Insulate your home and use fans and ventilation instead of AC. 5. Walk or take the bus and sell your car. 6. Create a budget. 7. Talk less on the phone , especially internationally. 8. Get car insurance quotes and make sure to get health insurance. 9. Travel cheap. Stay at hostels, Couch Surf or Air BnB. 10. Use an online savings account that pays better interest, like ING Direct. 11. Pack lunch and bring coffee to work. 12. Have a drink at home before going to the bar. 13. Get a rewards credit or debit card. 14. Invest your money. Vanguard or Scottrade is a good place to start. 15. Get a credit report at AnnualCreditReport.com, the government sponsored credit reporting website. 16. Ask for a discount on large purchases like a refrigerator or washing machine. 17. Take advantage of federal tax credits for energy efficiency with Energy Star. 18. Get a mortgage refinance quote to see if you pay too much for home payments. 19. Use the library. They have plenty of books, CD's and DVDs. You can also request that the library buy certain books. 20. Make saving a game. Set goals and give yourself a reward if you reach them. 21. Don't follow your impulse. If you feel the urge to buy something, wait a few days and see if you still want it. 22. At the grocery store look down. Items below eye level are often cheaper. 23. Make a grocery list and stick to it. 24. Take up hobbies that don't cost money. 25. Set the thermostat when you're not home to save energy. 26. Use open source software. It's free and usually as good. For example use Open Office instead of Microsoft Word or Excel. 27. Quit smoking. This calculator shows you how much you could save. 28. Buy a quality used car instead of new. A new car is worth thousands less as soon as it leaves the lot. 29. Food Bank. If you cannot afford food, find a food bank that gives out bags of groceries. 30. Get rid of credit card debt. A $20 shirt could actually cost $200 with fees and interest if you don't pay your credit card bill right away. 31. Donate and have yard sales for the stuff that you don't use. 32. Watch for fees. Fees are everywhere; bank fees, ATM fees, cash checking fees, late fees. These can add up over time. 33. Group discounts. Try to get a bargain on everything and ask if you can get a discount, especially if you have a large group. 34. Instead of buying things new, get them used or for free on Craig's List.

One Super Soul Sista, who has the blessing to be dubbed “the Angela Davis of hip-hop”. Starting off MCing as a 16- year old pop-locker, Medusa continues to cultivate hip-hop seeds across the country in unprecedented numbers. We met up at Malibu Beach with rap artist ADOTK and AKON’s recording artist Gypsy Stokes for the video shoot single song titled “Stuck” now released! Rapper A Dot K was exposed to the diversity of music from the time he was a child. Born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in the Bronx, New York and relocated to California as a child. A Dot would keep rhythm with coffee cans full of rice as instruments along side his stepfather who was a musician in the group jazz and blues group Bigfoot. A Dot K first began to consider music as a personal ambition when he reached high school. He was closely associated with a member of the 90's hip hop group Shy, and was able to witness firsthand the blessings that can come from industry success. With a strong existing connections to music and writing and a natural talent with words A Dot excelled as a songwriter. He was able to absorb knowledge from his comrade who acted as his mentor about the ins and outs of the music industry, and approached the game with a solid understanding that proved tremendously beneficial to his career and success. After purchasing a MPC 3000 and learning to produce tracks. After moving to Los Angeles, California A Dot attended college with a strong emphasis on studying the artists of music. He participated in Boy's Choir and took classes like Music Theory, Music Appreciation and Electronic Music. He expanded his repertoire and expanded his skills to become exceptional in the arts of rap, production, singing and songwriting for other aspiring artists. In the last three years A Dot K has released five mixtapes entitled Sweet Heat Vol. 1 (2006), Hell Razor Ent. Presents A Dot K (2006), The Hoodstock (2007), and The Missing LInk (2008) all of which were mixed by Jiji Sweet formally at 100.3 The Beat, one of LA's most popular radio stations. In 2009 he also released a mixtape called 18shotstothedome with Cali Untouchables, mixed by DJ Raze One and hosted by DJ Big K and features notable artists like Glasses Malone and Gypsy Stokes. He also released a full length album called Ghetto Child in 2006 that featured a song called "Thug In Me" with artist Zapp that received placement on various charts. A Dot is currently recording a second full length album, tracks of which are featured on his most recent mixtape. He is releasing videos for the singles off his mixtape and forthcoming album, which will feature both Glasses Malone and Gypsy Stokes. There are also features with artists such as Keith Murray, Sly Boogie, Suga free and Bad Azz in the works for the near future. A Dot K's music appeared on Sure Record's Underground Chart, NC Star Fleet Records chart at 18, and his single "Raise Some Hell" was 1 on the Underground Record Pool Chart. He was also featured in Urban Network Magazine in 2005. Ghetto Child has sold more than a thousand units in Japan, and the numbers are still counting. A Dot K has the tenacity and consistency paired with an uncommon knowledge of the industry that is necessary to create something for yourself in the hip hop game. He has a deep

SAO: Well other artists are trying to be rappers and I’m not trying, I’m doing. I am giving people substance something that they can listen to for a long time, something that will feed your brain. A lot of people are being programmed everyday from the media and a lot of people don’t know that real as to what is going on in the real world, so we are hoping that people will take heed to the message that we have in our music.

By Sharon Webb, Street Motivation September 17, 2010 6:49 p.m.

from the Bio hazard Global Entertainment from the Blakk Dawn Rap Group out of Pasadena, Ca. City of the Roses. We’ve been doing this hip hop thing for awhile and now it’s time for us to shine.

SAO: No I write, I perform and I am the CEO of an Indie Label

SAO: exclusively I have Dolow Dave and myself, but I am also working with a Group called Blakk Dawn, and two other artists name De’noche and Kali Boy.

SAO: Really I have a lot of inspirations such as my Mother who was a super soldier in my life, she raised 2 children by herself and we never wanted for nothing, my Grandparents and my uncles were also inspirational to me because they kept it real and never shield me from reality, they gave it to me raw and real. That was instrumental to me growing into manhood

SAO: I do a lot of reading on my spare time. I enjoy reading Carter T. Woodson, The mis-education of the negro, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King. Books like that help me get more of an insight of this fight and this struggle that we as minorities got going on and by reading these books you get more of a perspective as to what they were thinking as oppose to just watching a movie.

SAO: No, because I know that I have those individuals that will enjoy my music. SAO: Well Sherry has been a lot of help because I can’t do everything on my own, I’m currently responsible for a lot of artist so I needed Sherry to be responsible for me, that’s that millinium type of management.

SAO: Since 1995

SAO: Yes, but I am also with the group Blakk Dawn

SAO: Yes, I am working on a few albums, my second album is death of a nation prelude to anarchy and we have Dolow Daves Debut Album now available titled The Streets Never Fail and we have part 2 of The Streets Never Fail coming up soon The Black Gun project coming up the middle of next year.

SAO: The people in general are ready but the one’s that are behind the radio, TV and other media outlets are not ready. They want to continue to keep the people blind folded especially when it comes to hip hop, a genre of music that tells about the things that are really going on, on the streets, in the hoods, in the minds of the youths and in the homes of some of the abused. Hip Hop is an outlet for many people and it’s the truth. A lot of people that have nothing to do with hip hop are becoming very wealthy off hip hop or have become wealthy from hip hop, and you can see it on commercials and added in certain sitcoms, that this is a hip hop era.

SAO: To Jesus Christ my savior, My Mother (R.I.P), My Manager, My Artists, Ricky Ross, friends, supporters and Street Motivation Magazine

SAO: you can google Dolow Dave or Supa Agent Orange (facebook, myspace, twitter)

CLUB REVOLUTIONS

ANAGEMENT

Sherry Brent (sherry.brent@yahoo.com) Originally from: Pasadena, Ca. Managing: Hip Hop Artist Degree: AA, BA (Cal State San Bernardino)

1327 W. Colton Ave. Redlands, Ca. 92374 (909) 782-0974 We’ve been invited to Club Revolutions a few times by not only the owner, but also by a few great promoters and my staff always have a good time by meeting a lot of interesting people. There is never a dull moment and not to mention the DJ’s play really good music for the mixed crowd and good drinks for fab prices during happy hour! It you want a great place to party in the I.E. Redlands area near San Bernardino, stop by Club Revolutions for great fun, live performances, spicy drinks, professional security, lots of parking and style. See you there!

Well when I was younger, I wanted to be a singer and a dancer, but I knew that, that wasn’t possible plus the dances at that time was off the chain, so I couldn’t keep up and moved on (laugh) so I began playing the trombone for the marching band at Pasadena High School. Into my 12th Grade, I just wanted to focus more on my education and graduate at that point. Later on I decided that I just wanted to be behind the scene of music, since I’ve always been very attracted to the industry and I know that I’m a hustler when it comes to making things happen, not only for myself but for others as well, I felt like it was really a perfect match made in heaven. Well for me, hip hip tells a story. It tells about the struggle for minorities, especially for blacks or African American race. Now the Hispanics are going through what we’ve been going through for years. It’s a struggle for minorities period. But back to the subject, I just love music (laugh) I go back to Al Green, The Staples, Sistah Sledge, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding and all the old school music, which is really where the heart of music is at, oldies still make you feel good inside even today. No!, No! Not in the future, It’s just right now I am focused on my artist (Agent Orange and the Bio Hazard Global Camp), Which includes Dolow Dave and De’notche which is my fam, fam.

CLUB CRAZY HORSE We’ve partied at the Crazy Horse during their Soul Styce Hip-Hop and Art Festival and found that they really embrace hip hop and the various crowds that hip hop bring. We enjoy performances by on the talk box Funk it up! Three bars, two dance floors and a patio on the inside, Two Stages, a bike show, plenty of creative artist and free taco! Meet new people as well as hang out and relax with friends or family (under 21 scene), while enjoying a fun night of drinking and dancing. Live Entertainment and DJs spin everything from 80’s and 90’s to hip-hop, R&B, house and reggae.

SM-MAG.COM

Well It started when I was in Pasadena with a young lady name “Christy Love”, she is the person that really turned me on to managing because I was her assistant manager, helping her get shows together and bring the artist together for show cases in the Pasadena area As years rolled by, I moved on to become a manager myself and began getting really serious about it after the passing of my Father (Mr. Junior Arnell Brent) whom I was extremely close to.

Someone who has been in the industry or someone who has studied the game of the industry from the beginning, and has that go-getter personality, never get a manager that’s wet behind the ears to the industry because he/she will be wasting your time.

MOVIE TALK

Reports are circulating that Eminem may make his return to acting in the near future. Eminem may be making a return to film, according to Production Weekly's Twitter Feed. “Eminem & Frances McDormand are in talks to join Rachel Weisz & Anthony Hopkins in the Fernando Meirelles sexthemed drama ‘360’,” read the Tweet, which has since been taken down. Since the rapper's well-received acting debut in 2002's 8 Mile, Em has stayed away from the silver screen, save a cameo in 2009's Funny People. For a number of years, he was also attached to a film adaptation of Have Gun - Will Travel as the character Paladin.

STREET MOTIVATION MAGAZINE “Your Guide To Expanding West Coast Music”

There’s Petroleum in That? The highs and lows of gasoline is frequently in the news these days, but it’s easy to forget the other items made from petroleum. One expert suggested that 70 percent of products in a supermarket have some for of petroleum by-product in the item itself or in the packaging. For instance, petroleum can often be found in antiseptics, baby strollers, balloons, bandages, cameras, clothing, computers, dentures, deodorant, food preservatives, glue, ink, medical equipment, shampoo, toothpaste and vitamin capsules, among other things. In fact, in the United States, from each 42-gallons go to fuels of various kinds, while the rest goes to produce ingredients for products like those in the above list. The price of oil contributes to the cost of more things than just fuel- something to ponder the next time you pick up a tube of toothpaste!

TIP OF THE DAY Sell Yourself The biggest challenge is selling your own product. It's very easy to sell somebody else's product and name a price. When it's your own work, when it's something that is personal, it's hard in the beginning to say, "I need to get x amount of dollars for this" -- you almost come off a little apologetically, and that's not good. It takes a while to develop the confidence, and it's a very important lesson to learn.

May Reduce Childhood Obesity Recent research analyzed by University of Michigan doctors finds that third graders who got adequate sleep at night, about 9 1/2, were less likely to be in the obese weight category by the time they were in the sixth grade. Lack of sleep in adults results in increased ghrelin, a hormone that stimulates appetite, and decreased leptin, the hormone that promotes fullness. The overall impact of this condition produces increased weight. Tiredness in kids also may lead to less exercise and more munching. In the study, of the children who got 10 to 12 hours of sleep a night, about 12 percent were obese by sixth grade. Of those who got less than nine hours a night, 22 percent were obese by sixth grade. Of those who got less than nine hours a night, 22 percent were obese in the sixth grade.

PRODUCTION & RECORDING TIPS 1. If studio equipment breaks down, that down-time should not be charged to you 2. If you don’t get a song down in the first few passes, move to the next one, keep it fresh, and try to capture a great performance. 3. Make sure your lyrics can be understood. 4. Even if you can play all the instruments yourself, don’t do it. It could end up sounding boring or too similar in style. 5. Before you record a song or rap, make sure you know your song well. 6. Shop around for studio time. There are lots of studios that need the work, and there are great rates out there. Make sure the engineer comes with the rate. Check the hourly rate as well as a block rate 7. Sometimes it is better to hire session players than use your friends or band mates. Pros may cost a few dollars, but they’ll sound a lot better and get the job done faster, which will make it cheaper in the long run.

AMBITION In a time where the society is ran by corrupt government officials and unfit community leaders, young people are becoming more and more prone to turn to the streets to fit in. They find it to be a place where respect can be gained and loyalty is given. But the question arises, what is one to do to fix this unrealistic sense of security?

8. Be prepared before you go in the studio. Do preproduction. Do not rehearse or write in the studio.

Little did we know that in 1989 a leader would be born on the South side streets of Riverside, California. Raised like most youth today in a single parent home, Jentry Jonathon Salvatore unfortunately became stuck in the realization that his father was absent in his life. He was cared for by his mother with the occasional help from his grandparents. Jentry, later crowned with the fitting alias of "Ambition" seemed to stay level headed through it all. Realizing at a young age that talk is cheap, he learned to use wisdom to discern between the "real and fake" growing up. Soon he developed a street mentality and a never-going-tofool-me-twice demeanor; Ambition learned from every mistake he made as well as those others made. Guided through life by his relationship with God, it made him stable through it all. Ambition grew into the young leader he is today as a role model by action and not just by his words. Looking back, he realized there were problems in poverty stricken areas and chose to voice those in his music. Through listening to his music, the problems are not only exposed, but also a solution was given to fix the problems in the streets.

Ambition is unlike your average rapper that will just glorify poverty, sex, money and drugs. He realizes words are much more valuable when backed by actions; words without actions are powerless. Ambition is focused on proving that his music is louder than words. It is focused on his lifestyle and character but most importantly his actions. It is his hunger and drive for success mixed with his surroundings that makes him feel that he has so much to prove to the world. But if any one word could be used to describe Ambition it would be "unsatisfied" meaning unsatisfied and fed up with the industry's lack of action. We live in a time where it is easier to enter a booth and try to fabricate the truth, then to actually say the truth. The world has gone astray, lost and forgotten in the power, meaning and definition behind their words. He is proving his name to be true as the simple definition of having a desire for success, proving that by his actions. So it is only right Ambition titled his debut album "THE DRIVE FOR SUCCESS" which will speak for itself. 22 | STREET MOTIVATION OCT - DEC 2010

JOKES ON YOU The Funny Bunny (A True Story)

While the everyone was enjoying the family cook out, aunt Bunny was making the grill do what it do, while uncle Jimmy was sitting back having a beer.

I can’t see the grill witcha wide ass!”, and chuckled out loud enough for everyone to hear. Aunty Bunny looked back and just gave him that predator look and continued to rule the grill. Later on that evening while everyone was packing up to leave, uncle Jimmy was rubbing aunt Bunny’s feet and stated that he was getting in the mood for some love making tonight . My aunt Bunny replied back “I know you don’t think you gone get this wide grill started with that little wienie”.

KNOCK IT OFF! A supporting Mother cornered a rap star manager in his dressing room and insisted he listen to a CD of her talented son rapping . The manager agreed to listen, and the woman switched on the CD player. “Nice Rap’” the manager thought. Sounds like an artist that’s already signed. He listened spellbound to the entire recording. “Madam,” he whispered is that your son?” “No, she replied. “That’s Ice Cube. But my son sounds just like him.”

ROCKO Exclusive: Mr. "Umma Do Me" reveals why One of One is dedicated to deceased Def Jam exec Shakir Stewart and if his new LP addresses rumored cheating on Monica. You might say Rocko is out for revenge – on his critics, his now former label, gossipmongers, and anyone thinking the artist manager/label owner-turnedartist in his own right is nothing more than a one hit wonder. That hit, the Drumma Boylaced stunna’s anthem “Umma Do Me,” catapulted Rocko to a deal with Def Jam for his first full-length, 2008’s Self-Made.

NICK CANNON Ever the jokester, Nick Cannon now suggests he teams up with MC Hammer for a tag-team grievance wrestling match against Eminem and Jay-Z. A dated disagreement over Mariah Carey between Rap superstar Eminem and television personality/actor/musician Nick Cannon has come back into the limelight recently. Earlier this month, Cannon released a Slick Rick-inspired diss song, "The Warning," towards the Shady Records front-man. Now, a jovial Cannon has suggested a charity boxing match between R&B diva Carey's past and present lovers.

DR DRE Dre hopes to release Detox by Christmas, and unveils another line of headphones with NBA MVP LeBron James. With a few unmastered leaks floating around the Internet, it appears that Dr. Dre's Detox will not be released until Christmas at the earliest. While speaking with Interscope/Geffen/A&M Chairman Jimmy Iovine at a Beats By Dre press conference, Dre attempted to explain the multiple delays behind what many think will be his final solo album. "In a perfect world, I'm trying to make Christmas," Dre said. "But we'll see something will definitely be out by then. I have to wait until I feel it, and I'm working on it everyday."

But now Rocko is rocking without Hip Hop’s most established label for his allimportant sophomore solo album, One of One.

After "Successful" lived up to its name, and other collaborations followed, Drizzy and Songz may be headed down the path blazed by R. Kelly & Jay-Z. Trey Songz now says that the duo may explore full-length collaborations, with Drake already encouraging it. "He said he’s ready," said Trey. "I think it’s all about when the people want it. I don’t think people are ready for that yet." Elaborating, the Atlantic Records star said, "It’s all about placement. We could be much bigger stars when we do that. It’s all about the success we attain individually."
