OLD TOWN ART FAIR

The more northerly of two neighborhood art fests this weekend, the Old Town Art Fair is one of the nation’s oldest. For the first fair in 1950, artwork was hung on fences. Nowadays, there are 220+ juried fine artists, garden walk, food court, children’s corner and music: a little jazz, a little swing, some folk, fusion and blues. Musicians include Chicken Dolphin, Fifth Star Band, Marc Lee Shannon, Brad Cole and Friends. Proceeds benefit Old Town Triangle Association, the Menomonee Club; and in the past, Deborah’s Place and the orchestra and music club of the local CPS high school. oldtownartfair.org

ARTISTS OF THE WALL FESTIVAL

Loyola Beach, 1230 W. Greenleaf Ave. Live public mural painting of 160 spaces on concrete bench-wall between Farwell and Morse avenues. Fest started 30 years ago to prevent gang graffiti and bring the Rogers Park community together. Images will remain until next May, when the wall is whitewashed in preparation for the 2024 Festival. Pride Weekend is always the last in June, to commemorate the uprising outside NYC’s Stonewall Inn in 1969 that started the Gay Pride movement.
