Angels Among Us Reschedules Perfectly Paired Wine Event to June 7 Angels Among Us has rescheduled their third annual wine tasting event, Perfectly Paired, to June 7, due to changing health and safety circumstances in the community. Angels Among Us has partnered with Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar for this event, and the wine tasting will take place at the Fleming’s location at 140 Regency Pkwy. The event, formerly known as Uncorked, has been revamped and rebranded for 2020. This year there will be wine stations with nearly 50 different wines. As a perfect complement to the wines, chef partner Rafael Ponce has curated a selection of food pairings. A small silent auction will be available for bidding, and wine will be available for purchase at a discount. Only 150 tickets are available, so those wanting to attend are encouraged to purchase tickets soon. Last year the event quickly sold out. Angels Among Us is a Nebraska nonprofit that provides financial and emotional support to families whose children are battling pediatric cancer. Any family living in or being treated in Nebraska is eligible to apply for financial support. In 2019, Angels Among Us provided financial support to over 120 families, giving over $440,000 helping with mortgages, rent, and other expenses. The six locations include: Steve Hogan/Miller Park, Spring Lake, Platteview GC, Eagle Hills Golf Course, Pacific Springs Golf Course, and Elkhorn Ridge Golf Course. The First Tee Curriculum is nationally acclaimed and based on a progressive model that takes participants through five certification levels: PLAYer, PAR, BIRDIE, EAGLE, and ACE. The length of time needed to advance from one level to the next will vary from student to student. It is not a race but a journey, ensuring that each student receives the necessary tools to have a fun and rewarding life on and off the golf course. Participants are required to attend courses and successfully complete all of the golf and life skill requirements within each level. Nebraska Community Foundation Offers Free Tax-Wise Charitable Giving Resources N e b r a s k a C o m m u n i t y Foundation (NCF) offers an abundance of free resources for tax-wise charitable giving. NCF’s website (nebcommfound. giftlegacy.com) explores numerous giving methods like the IRA Charitable Rollover, gifts of grain and livestock, real estate, life insurance policies, appreciated stocks or mutual funds, and more. Online gift planning calculators will help illustrate the income and tax benefits of a variety of gift types. Furthermore, NCF provides the most up-to-date information on new laws and legislation affecting charitable giving.

One example of useful current information on the webpage concerns The SECURE Act, effective January 1, 2020, which made several changes to qualified retirement plans that impact charitable giving: 1. The age at which required minimum distributions must be taken was pushed back from 70.5 to 72 years old, but the age at which qualified charitable distributions can be made is still 70.5. 2. The “Stretch IRA” has been eliminated for most heirs, making IRAs an expensive inheritance.
Nebraska Community Foundation works with generous Nebraskans and their financial advisors every day to meet their charitable giving goals. For more information, contact NCF’s Office of Gift Planning (402) 323- 7330 / info@nebcommfound.org.

Parkinson’s Nebraska Promotes Parkinson’s Awareness Month with Online Resources April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, and Parkinson’s Nebraska is sharing online resources and urging everyone across the state to join them as they promote greater awareness of how Parkinson’s affects those living with the disease as well as their families. They want the community to know that it is possible to live a quality life with Parkinson’s disease with access to the right services, such as specialized therapy and exercise classes, support groups, and educational opportunities. Throughout the month of April, many events, classes, and groups have cancelled to help contain the spread of COVID-19 and keep our communities safe. During this time, community members can turn to online programming to stay connected, engaged, and educated. Parkinson’s Nebraska has compiled a list of online Parkinson’s programs and webinars from their national and local partners, so they are all easy to find in one place. Please visit www.parkinsonsnebraska.org/webinars-andonline-programs to view the growing list of online programs for people with Parkinson’s and their families. Christina is one of these people. Christina is a graduate of the New Life Recovery program who continues to find relief from a debilitating drug addiction after having participated in the program and getting honest with others about the struggles she was having. Despite attempts to get sober, Christina kept falling back into her addiction. She rotated staying with family members and friends until they kicked her out. Her mom took her to Open Door Mission where she found hope and freedom through New Life Recovery’s Bible-based, 12-step residential program. Since graduating from the program, Christina has begun working full-time as a Lydia House Family Support Worker for the Mission, helping others recover as she has. Young Life is a world-class organization for adolescents. Their staff and volunteers enter the world of kids, focusing on what matters to them—fun, adventure, friendship, and a sense of significance. In doing so, they earn the privilege of talking to them about something that they believe matters most—the truth about God and His love for them! If you’d like to participate in Omaha Young Life’s golf tournament as a sponsor, volunteer, or golfer, visit www.omaha.younglife.org or contact the Omaha office at (402) 391-4994.
