Here it is. The final goodbye. The exit split. The break-up letter. The end of an era.
Even though this moment has been on the horizon for a while now, nothing could prepare me for it. Strike Magazine has been a part of my life for almost three years and it has now come to an end. I know it’s time, even though it aches to let something that has been so impactful on my life go.
When I first discovered Strike, I was going into my second year of college full of cohesive chaos and the invitation of my 20s. I felt like something was missing. I needed something to be passionate about. That’s when Strike perfectly landed into my lap. It felt like a calling that I had to answer. Ashley, Alex and myself founded the Strike Orlando branch with the same purpose: to build a creative outlet that grows into a community filled with devotion and friendship. I can confidently leave knowing we did that. Although building something from scratch can come with its challenges, it allows for mistakes to turn into lessons and lessons to grow into discoveries.
This magazine has been the kick-start to my self discovery. You will undoubtedly reveal as pects of yourself when you dedicate your heart to something. Never in my life have I invested everything I had into something until I found the missing piece that was Strike Magazine. With each issue, I allowed the dedication to fill me to the brim. When I was the External Director, I would spend hours organizing ev ery aspect of the launch of our first issue. The world needed to know about Strike Magazine Orlando, and I was determined to show them. When I first started as Editor-In-Chief, I would stay up until 3 a.m. planning concepts for pho toshoots and ensuring every element matched the theme. Despite the fact that I had no prior experience with any aspect of magazine pro duction, I told myself, “You will figure it out. You will learn how to do it.” I allowed the pas sion to lead. The fact that Strike has been my life may sound dramatic but my closest friends and family are aware of how this magazine has transformed me from a shy imaginative girl to a confident creative woman.
This particular issue has been a funk and nos talgia-filled one. From early morning preparation for a photoshoot to late hours spent brainstorming ideas, this issue shows how commitment can create something amazing. This issue encapsulates everything that creativity entails. To enlarge on even the simplest things in order to view them in a new, imaginative way.
I have seen this publication from start to pres ent and the ways it has grown is so fulfilling. Every page is soaked with dedication and de tail. From a photo taken at a specific angle, an article’s word selection or a styling accessory choice; every page is printed with purpose!
To my staff, I appreciate your confidence in me as your Editor-in-Chief. For offering Strike Magazine with your skills, ideas and creativity. For crafting something that transcends all of us. To the past co-founders, thank you for being the ones who kick-started this all with me. For building up such an incredible community. To Claire, my Creative Director, thank you for sharing your confidence and spirit to help create this publication. I genuinely treasure the devotion you have for Strike. I’m forever grateful that you gave your soul and heart to this magazine with me. To my sister, thank you for being the one to understand every aspect of what Strike means to me. Truly being the one by my side through the start and finish of my journey. For being the source of reassurance and comfort. To the future leader and mem bers of Strike Magazine Orlando, I rest well knowing that I am passing something I hold dear to a group of people whose love for Strike exceeds anything I could have imagined.
A bundle of printed pages bound together has evolved into a relationship that I will cherish forever. Although this chapter is coming to a close, I will always be appreciative of all this publication has done for me. I’m endlessly grateful to have shared a part of my life with Strike Magazine Orlando.
Strike Out, Editor-In-Chief | Hanna ChuteI first joined Strike as a PR Assistant sanding skateboards in my front lawn and I am now leaving this publication as the Creative Director of Issue 05:“The 5 Senses”. Being in this position leaves a lot of room for failure and even more room for success. As I walked into the studio to direct our first shoot I was immediately filled with excitement, a little bit of confidence and a whole lot of nerves. In a way, all odds were against me this semester. I had never done something like this before, but I knew the passion and resilience that fills my body would carry me through the evolution of this issue. Once we started I didn’t want to stop, and the fire inside me got bigger and bigger, making this issue one of my greatest victories. However, the best part about this experience was finding a friend in Hanna Chute. Hanna has a level of confidence and composure that I’ve never seen anyone else have. Nothing is ever overlooked or half-assed when it comes to Hanna and her work, and that’s why she’s not only my Editor-in-Chief but my best friend. Thank you Hanna for finally giving me the chance to visualize my idea. And a huge thank you to Alyssa and every staff member, none of this could have happened without you guys. If there’s one thing I’ve learned during my time with Strike is there will always be someone who doesn’t believe in you or something standing in your way. It is up to you to rise to the occasion and show yourself and others what you are capable of. From That’s Life to In Trance and now The 5 Senses, I can confidently say I am capable of creating something I love. As this is my last issue, I want the 5 Senses to emphasize the humor and honesty of creative expression. If I am able to give you a little break from the real world then we have achieved the goal of our fifth issue. Strike Magazine Orlando has truly made me feel something I’ve never felt before, and I’m not sure I’ll ever experience a feeling like this again.
Claire Overstreet Creative DirectorAs a first time external director, it’s safe to say that I was absolutely terrified. Strike is a big publication with even bigger shoes to fill and I wasn’t sure if I could handle that. However, as you will see in this issue and issues to come, Strike never fails to impress. I’m so happy that I was able to work with the most amazing and talented group of people to make Issue 05 happen. Although I would love to take all the credit, I give the life of this magazine to all the hard working directors and teams on the external side working endlessly to promote and all the incredible visionaries on the creative side allowing us to experience their talent in real time and produce a result that goes beyond belief. Thank you Strike and thank you to the Orlando staff for making this one a great one. Let Issue 05 serve as a reminder to never take life too seriously. I hope you all enjoy.
Alyssa Schroeder External DirectorSIGHT. SOUND. TOUCH. TASTE. SMELL. All 5 of our senses work together to help us interact with and experience the world around us. But when you concentrate on one at a time, you’ll start to see how unique each sense is on its own. If this is your first time touching Issue 05, you’re in a sticky situation. Touch this issue’s pages, smell this issue’s nostalgia, taste this issue’s words, hear this issue’s stories and look at all that this issue contains. “The 5 Senses” emphasizes the humor and honesty of creative expression; we focus on the most basic aspects of life and investigate how they assist us in making memorable moments. These pages hold some juicy information, with the goal of giving you a few extra laughs and a little break from the real world. From the taste of a classic cocktail to the aroma of your favorite perfume, we take you on a journey to explore life’s sensuality in our fifth issue of Strike Magazine Orlando.

Beyond the physical, sexual tastes and desires should not involve any sense of shame. The ability to leave embarrassment aside when voicing what we want, or to swiftly leave an unfulfilling or humiliating situation, are colossal psychological achievements. One should not feel naughty or wrongful for expressing curiosity in their personal bodily pleasures, it is perfectly fine to make a mess every now and then. Tastes are vital to enjoyment of the body. Therefore, we should seek out the broad-minded and softhearted people who are willing to listen when we awkwardly put our feelings into words, or dare to express our true inhibitions.
It is a lie to think sex, uncomplex, we simply have to own up to the difficulties we have with it. To crudely generalize a lot of us, women and men, are right now walking the Earth intensely ashamed of ourselves sexually. This is a largely historical predisposition of society, but by allowing our taste buds to play their rightful role is a valiant step toward the path of a new sexual vibrato. Bite into a fresh sexual perpsective, seen not as a place of guilt or fear but as intensely fulfilling, and essentially innocent in the sense of a ‘fun’ pastime. If kept close enough to taste, and for long enough, the focus will shift from physiological sensation, to a psychological promise to an end of loneliness.

Don't stare too hard. Your eyes aren't deceiving you, these looks could kill. The eye candy in this section will make you take a second look.
At first glance, we tend to focus on the bigger picture. But why don't we take a second to look closely and zoom in to what hides inside? Within Issue 05: The 5 Senses we feature items that represent each of the 5 senses in an obscure way. Use your sense of SIGHT and go see for yourself!
1. Most of the time people will bite me for a burst of a refreshingly sweet berry blue taste. But the truth is, it's even more fun to play with me. Go ahead squeeze me on page 17.
2. 5th time's a charm! I am dealt to you when you least expect it. Play your hand right or risk folding. See me in action on page 71.
3. I am usually in your hand on a night where you need to let loose or “take the edge off”. My vibrant blue color can't go unseen. But if you're not sure how to make me, see Strike's Finest Selection for a quick runthrough.
4. You wear me when you don't want to get your hands dirty. I can help you avoid sticky and slimy textures. I'm squeezing something juicy on page 17.
5. I am the perfect signature scent for you. Spray on seduction with striking notes of vanilla, musk and rose. See for yourself what our signature scent is all about on page 51.
6. Add a sense of intentionality to your space and elevate your mood by putting me in a vase. I am usually gifted to a loved one when they need me the most. Smell me on page 56.
7. I am bouncing around from page to page in Issue 05: The 5 Senses, so it must be hard to find me. If you're looking for a way to spruce up your look... I am the perfect touch.
8. I'm sticky. I'm funky. I'm even crunchy. I have a different texture everytime you play with me. Stretch me. Pull me. Poke me. The more you play with methe better I get! You can find me on page 19.
