On Tuesday June 8, 1948 the first car with the name Porsche received its registration: the 356 “No. 1” Roadster. This date is considered the birth of the Porsche brand.
The finish of the number 92 car harks back to the Porsche 917/20 that tackled Le Mans in 1971. This one-of-a-kind race car was designed to combine the aerodynamic advantages of the short and long-tail versions of the 917 and thereby ensure that the previously untested car would win the qualification. The 917/20 was dubbed the “Pink Pig” due to its pink paintwork with sections of the car labelled in butcher-style cuts.
70 years later, Porsche celebrated this anniversary with numerous activities and events across the world, including Sportscar Together Day, 24h of Le Mans, Festival of Speed in Goodwood and the Rennsport Reunion in California.
SPORTSCAR TOGETHER DAY From the 8th to the 10th of June 2018, drivers, enthusiasts and fans celebrated what unites us: the fascination of driving a sports car. Porsche Centre Melbourne celebrated this inaugural event by transforming the showroom into a museum of new and classic Porsche sports cars, from the very first 356 models through to the latest Panamera Sport Turismo variants. The day was a resounding success, with the highest attendance of any event in the 2018 PCM calendar. 1,300 enthusiasts enjoyed giveaways, coffee, catering and the opportunity to share their passion for Porsche. We would like to thank all the owners who loaned their vehicles for display on the day. On the following Sunday, PCM attended Porsche Club Victoria’s coffee & Porsches event to come together and celebrate the milestone with other Porsche enthusiast owners. The carpark quickly filled with an array of Porsches of all colours and vintages, from 356 Speedsters to a 2018 911 GT2 RS, highlighting the shared appetite for Porsche across all demographics.
24 HOUR OF LE MANS As part of the 70 year celebrations, Porsche outfitted two 911 RSRs at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in historic racing liveries of the 1970s and 1980s. Both cars went on to celebrate double victories, once again making history by winning both GTE classes at the world’s toughest endurance race. The #91 contender echoes the Rothmans paintwork of various Porsche race cars. An example is the Porsche 959, which won the 1986 Paris-Dakar rally flying the colours of the British tobacco manufacturer. In circuit racing, the Porsche 956 C and the Porsche 962 C celebrated major successes: Each of these two blue-and-white Group C sports prototypes clinched overall victory twice at the 24 Hours of Le Mans – the 956 C in 1982 and 1983, and the 962 C at the 1986 and 1987 races.
THE PORSCHE RENNSPORT REUNION VI AT LAGUNA SECA More than 60,000 motor racing enthusiasts attended the four-day event in California where around 2,500 vehicles, from the 356 Speedster to the 919 Hybrid were on show. The theme of this sixth edition of the Rennsport Reunion was ‘Champions’, and with over 30,000 race wins, Porsche is by far the most successful brand in motorsports worldwide. Dr. Wolfgang Porsche drove the 356 No. 1 – the first registered vehicle of the sports car manufacturer from the year 1948 – around the track, demonstrating its racing credentials. “It was a pleasure to drive,” says the Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Porsche AG. “The corkscrew corner is definitely a lot of fun in a really fast car. I only know this passage from our track at Leipzig. The original is far more impressive.” Ferry Porsche designed the Porsche 356 Roadster 70 years ago. “My father couldn’t find his dream car anywhere, so he built it himself,” says Dr. Wolfgang Porsche.

Continuing the 70 year anniversary celebrations, Porsche was the honoured marquee at the Festival of Speed, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2018.

911 GT2 RS CLUBSPORT Complete with 515kW (700 hp) this racing version of the road-legal 911 GT2 RS will be limited to just 200 units and is designed to be run at clubsport events as well as selected motorsport meets.
with Porsche Stability Management including traction control as well as an anti-lock braking system. These assistance systems can be adjusted separately or switched off completely, depending on the driving situation.
The technology is based on the 911 GT2 RS, just like in the recently unveiled 935. Both share the same 3.8-litre flat-six twinturbo motor, with power being transferred via a rigidly mounted seven-speed Porsche dual clutch gearbox (PDK). As with all racing versions of the 911, the driver changes gears via shift paddles on the steering wheel.
The carbon steering wheel and the colour display behind it have been taken from the 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 R model. A fully integrated roll cage combined with a racing bucket seat and a six-point safety harness ensure maximum safety for the driver whilst air conditioning keeps the cabin cool, an added luxury for a high performance track machine.
Like the road-legal 911 GT2 RS, the 1,390-kilogram Clubsport version is equipped

The new Cayenne launch On Sunday 24 June 2018, Porsche Centre Melbourne hosted E3 Cayenne order holders to an exclusive lunch at Oakridge Winery, where they had the opportunity to drive the new model for the first time. In the spirit of ‘Sportscar Together’, the event brought together owners from different ages, backgrounds and interests to share their enthusiasm for the new model following the official launch in Australia. Being able to experience the new Cayenne and Cayenne S in a unique environment outside of the Melbourne CBD, surrounded by the scenic Yarra Valley wineries, proved to be a unique and positive introduction to these exciting models. Captured on film and in photos, these experiences were then shared amongst our wider Porsche community. Exactly 1,948 units will be built, reflective of the Porsche 356 ‘Number 1’ receiving its operating license in 1948. Porsche presented the second Speedster Concept in Paris last year. Its Guards Red paintwork is a reference to the 1988 911 Speedster of the G-Model generation. The new cross-spoke 21-inch wheels and the black leather interior create a tasteful and sporty appearance. The driveable 911 Speedster concept, initially presented in Zuffenhausen as a “Heritage” version, will enter production in the first half of 2019. The car was developed at Porsche Motorsport in Weissach in cooperation with Style Porsche and Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. The future 911 Speedster, based on the 991 range, will be the first car to be offered with the new Heritage Design Packages. This exclusive accessory line by Porsche Exclusive
allows for an even higher degree of personalization for the 911.
EXCLUSIVE ACCESSORY LINE BY PORSCHE EXCLUSIVE In addition to the eye-catching paintwork, 21-inch centre lock wheels are another visual highlight of this latest concept study presented in Paris. Their cross-spoke wheel design is similar to that of Porsche racing cars such as the 911 RSR and the GT3 R. The tinted day-time running lights were also inspired by racing. Matching the study’s paintwork, they are kept in red. The two 'Talbot' shaped exterior mirrors as well as the fuel tank cap, centrally positioned on the bonnet, shine in blackchrome and platinum. In contrast to the previously shown 'Heritage' version, the interior features partly perforated black leather with red highlights. All body components as well as the entire technology of both the 911 Speedster Concept cars are identical. This includes
the shortened window frames and smaller side windows as well as the carbon-fibre rear bonnet with the double-bubble cover behind the seats. Both cars come with a lightweight Tonneau cover, fitted by Tenax buttons, instead of a convertible soft top.
THE CENTREPIECE OF THE LIMITED SPECIAL EDITION The concept cars’ body is based on the 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. The fenders, as well as the front and rear bonnet are made from lightweight carbon fibre composite while the chassis was taken from the 911 GT3. Furthermore, the GT development department provided the exhaust system with its titanium tailpipes and the drivetrain including the manually operated six-speed gearbox. The same goes for the centrepiece of the limited special edition: The Speedster Concept is powered by a naturally-aspirated flat-six engine developing more than 500 hp and capable of engine speeds up to 9,000 rpm.

THE PERFECT PARTNER
FOR YOUR CLASSIC Many owners of late model Porsches would like to celebrate the marque’s glorious heritage by adding a classic model to their garage. After enjoying a range of new Porsches, Melbourne-based internet service specialist, Adrian Kinderis, did just that. He found the model he wanted at Porsche Centre Melbourne, where a 1990 model 911 Carrera 4 Targa had just been traded on a new Porsche. The one-owner car, had 175,000-km on its odometer and was ripe for the sort of comprehensive restoration that Adrian had in mind. “I wanted a classic Porsche in Concours condition, but with a unique, more powerful engine,” he recalled. “But everything had to be done to Porsche factory standards using only Porsche parts.” Initially he planned to send the Targa to custom Porsche specialist Singer in the USA to restore, but Porsche Centre Melbourne had just then been appointed a Porsche Classic Partner. “They were right here, on my doorstep, so I could follow the restoration process progress every step of the way,” he said. “Because they were obliged to do everything the Porsche way, it was as good as sending the Targa back down the line at the factory.

“As a bonus, it also made financial sense. Because it was being restored ‘by Porsche’ it would always have a higher value if it ever came time to sell it.” His brief to PCM was simple: The car had to look like new again, but it had to go like a later model 993-series 911 RS CS. “I wanted its extra power to be a bit of a secret,” he said. “In other words, if I didn’t tell you, you’d never know!” For this reason, an early decision was to retain the Targa’s original exhaust system, so it would sound a little quieter.” The first step was cosmetic. The C4 was sent to Porsche certified repairer Charlie Battisti & Co for a full bare metal repaint in its original Venetian Blue Metallic. Meanwhile, authorised Porsche Classic technicians Peter Bowen and Paul Weeda were charged with the Porsche’s mechanical transformation. Using the C4’s original 3.6 crankcase, the crankshaft and rods were machined and balanced. 993 RSCS pistons, barrels and cylinder heads were fitted to take the engine’s

capacity to 3.8 litres, also providing the engine with more torque and horsepower. Heavier RS cylinder head studs were fitted to strengthen and ensure a reliable power unit whilst maintaining factory standards. An RS CS single mass flywheel replaced the Targa’s original dual mass unit, while a 993 Turbo clutch was fitted to handle the extra power. Then after re-trimming the reborn C4 Targa in its original hue of Marine Blue leather, Adrian’s classic was ready for him to enjoy on Porsche Centre Melbourne’s inaugural Classic Road Trip to Mitchelton Winery at Nagambie last October – celebrating the first anniversary of PCM’s Classic Partnership. “It’s everything I hoped it would be,” enthused Adrian, who is a discerning enthusiast with a collection of around 20 special cars, many of them Porsches. “Porsches are meant to be driven and this car now begs for me to drive it!” Adrian Kinderis’s experience is not unique since PCM’s Classic Partner appointment was announced. Freshly re-painted in Granite Green metallic, a 1988 model Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Cabriolet Wide Body has been sent from Western Australia for restoration and waits patiently in a dedicated classic workshop bay while its engine is being rebuilt. Paul Weeda, who has been at PCM for almost 13 years and worked on many Classic Partner restoration projects, said the locally-delivered
911 Cabriolet had been laid up and not running in Perth until its enthusiast owner heard about PCM’s Classic Partner appointment. “In this instance, the client opted for a full mechanical rebuild, which included its engine, suspension and brakes. “The word is now out about the quality of our work and from a trickle of cars when we initially opened our Classic division, it has become a fully-functioning department. “Many of our customers get inspired to own a classic Porsche when they book their modern Porsches in for service and see the work we are doing.” Weeda said that work already scheduled had PCM’s five authorised Porsche Classic technicians – himself, Peter Bowen, Brett Bowen, Jeff Hoffert and Matthew Walton – booked up to 4–5 months ahead. “Our classic work is now accounting for around 10 per cent of our service capacity and it’s growing as the word gets around.” Weeda said customers are welcome to drop in to follow the progress on their classic. “We love to share their passion,” he said. “We are all Porsche enthusiasts and very proud of the pleasure our work is bringing.”

From its Australian introduction in 2003, the Cayenne was designed by Porsche to be the best on-road SUV in its class and equal to the best off-road.
However, few owners have taken Porsche at its word like Melbourne off-road travel enthusiast, Noel Terry intends to do later this year. Noel is planning to take his new, current model blackon-black Cayenne Turbo well beyond the bitumen on a 6,000km round trip adventure. Starting in Melbourne, it will drive through Broken Hill, William Creek, Dalhousie on the edge of the Simpson dessert, Oodnadatta, The Painted Desert, Coober Pedy, and Arkaroola in the Flinders Ranges, as the head of a five-vehicle convoy crewed by family members and their sons. “It will be a ‘boys’ trip,” said the 78 year-old former motor industry executive. “And it will be fun!” Noel, who has previously visited many of the places that he will be introducing his Cayenne to, plans to make relatively few modification to the Turbo for the trip.
All Season run-flat tyres, which are being sourced from overseas. “I’ll also be carrying a spare wheel and tyre on my roof platform alongside a pair of jerry cans – just in case,” Noel said. Protecting the Cayenne’s beautiful black paintwork from stone damage is something he is also conscious of and the front bonnet and sides of the Cayenne will be swathed in a clear stone-resistant film, as will its windscreen.
“It’s my everyday car...why wouldn’t I want to enjoy it on holiday as well?”
“It’s already very well equipped for off-road travel,” he said. “Its height-selectable adaptive air suspension can raise it high enough to make additional underbody protection unnecessary on the roads we will be travelling on. All its major components, fuel and brake lines are tucked away underneath, well out of stone’s harm, while it has a tyre pressure monitoring system as standard. “Also, the Cayenne’s lights are already fantastic, so I don’t need any more, as we won’t be driving at night when the roads are alive with wildlife!” Noel was initially concerned whether he could source more suitable off-road tyres to fit the Cayenne Turbo’s standard 21-inch diameter alloy wheels – a size necessary to clear its monster 416mm diameter front disc brake rotors. However he believes he has found the solution for this trip in Pirelli’s Scorpion Verde
Other preparation for the trip will include fitting a set of drawers and a portable fridge in the Cayenne’s rear luggage compartment, but the most important item will be found atop the transmission tunnel behind the Turbo’s leather front seats: a coffee set up!
“I can’t survive without good coffee,” he said. “It’s an essential!” Meanwhile, at age 78 he is not intending to ‘rough it’ completely at nights. “I’m taking a tent, but I think the others are planning to sleep in swags.” Noel had previously intended to take his former Macan S on the trip, but as it didn’t have Porsche Active Suspension Management, he felt that while fully capable of handling the conditions, it wouldn’t be quite as supple as the Cayenne – which has (PASM) as standard – on the worst roads they will encounter. However, he said he didn’t purchase the Cayenne for what for many would be the off-road adventure of a lifetime. “It’s my every-day car,” he said. ”Why wouldn’t I want to enjoy it on holiday as well?”

The new Porsche 911 has been officially unveiled in California as the eighth generation of the iconic rear-engine sports car. Familiar yet unmistakably new, the latest model is wider, more assertive and more advanced. AN EXTERIOR DESIGN THAT DRAWS ON EARLIER GENERATIONS OF THE 911 The front end revives a traditional feature of earlier 911 generations: a forward-extended bonnet with a distinctive recess in front of the windscreen. Both elements lengthen the front of the vehicle and give it a dynamic look. Wider wings arch over the large 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the rear. The rear-wheel-drive models now match the bodywork width of the existing all-wheel-drive. Newly developed LED headlights are integrated into the wings almost seamlessly, taking the typically-911 round and upright form. Flush integration of the electrical pop-out handles in the doors emphasises the tapered and smooth side contour. The exterior mirrors have been optimised to minimise wind noise, and can be folded in electronically. The rear of all models is dominated by the significantly wider, variable-position spoiler and the seamless, elegant light bar. The vertically arranged louvres of the air intake echo the contours of the rear window. The centrally located third brake light has also been integrated in the intake louvres. Since this is hidden when the rear spoiler is extended, there is a second brake light in the spoiler itself. As a distinguishing feature, the rear-wheel-drive models have black louvres, while the all-wheel-drive models have chrome elements in the rear grille. With the exception of the front and rear sections, the entire outer skin is now made from aluminium.
REDESIGNED INTERIOR WITH CLEAR LINES Inspired by the 911 models from the 1970s, the interior is distinctive with clear straight lines and recessed instruments defining the dashboard. Alongside the centrally positioned rev counter are two thin frameless displays, which deliver information to the driver. Now 10.9 inches in size, the centre screen of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) can be operated quickly and without causing distraction. Below it sits a control panel of five toggle switch buttons separating the centre console. The seats have also been re-designed to be lighter and offer increased lateral support.

In the area of digitisation, the 911 takes the next step into the future with permanent connectivity, as well as new functions and services. The standard PCM features include online navigation as well as Porsche Connect Plus.
NEW ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS ENHANCE SAFETY AND COMFORT In a world first, Porsche has developed Wet mode, included as standard. This function detects water on the road, preconditions the control systems accordingly and warns the driver; the driver can then adjust vehicle settings for a particular emphasis on safety at the push of a button, or by means of the mode switch on the steering wheel (included in the optional Sport Chrono Package). The camera-based warning and brake assist system, also fitted as standard, detects the risk of collisions with other vehicles, pedestrians or cyclist and initiates a warning or emergency braking if necessary. Night Vision Assist with a thermal imaging camera is optionally available for the 911 for the first time. The adaptive cruise control option includes automatic distance control with stop-andgo function and reversible occupant protection.
THE NEXT GENERATION OF FLAT-SIX ENGINES The turbocharged flat-six engines also enter a new generation with the new 911. New, larger turbochargers, a completely redesigned charge air cooling system, and use for the first time of Piezo injectors provides increased responsiveness, power, torque characteristics, endurance and revving ability.

road trip
In the words of Dr. Ferry Porsche, “Our cars are meant to be driven,” and classic Porsches are no different. The enjoyment and shared passion for classic Porsches amongst our owner community is what inspired our team to organise the inaugural PCM Classic Road Trip. Planned to coincide with the 70 years of Porsche celebrations and continue the festivities surrounding Motorclassica,

the trip was held on October 14–15 and entailed a road tour to Nagambie, followed by an overnight stay at one of Victoria’s premier wineries – Mitchelton Estate. Commencing on a picture-perfect spring morning, our group of twenty classic Porsche owners met at PCM with much anticipation for the road less travelled ahead. The convoy included a wide range of classic Porsche models from some of the earliest 356s, through to the last air-cooled 993s. A highlight was a 964 911 Carrera Targa which had its first major outing since being fully restored and rebuilt by Porsche Centre Melbourne to factory specification. It would not be a Porsche road trip without a carefully planned picturesque route,
led by seasoned Porsche enthusiast and ambassador Warwick McKenzie. Departing from Victoria Parade, our group headed east passing through Emerald, Gembrook, Warburton and Reefton to our morning tea stop at the Vibe Hotel, Marysville offering our drivers and passengers a chance to refuel before embarking on the second half of our trip. Eager to continue, our group departed north passing through spectacular Porsche country – winding roads and sweeping turns, the very best of the Goulburn valley. Next stop was lunch at the infamous Bank Street Wood Fired Pizza & Gardens in Avenal, a stone’s throw away from our final destination and a hidden gem well worth visiting.
Arriving at Mitchelton Estate shortly after 5pm, our guests were treated to an exclusive private tour of the newly opened Mitchelton Gallery of Aboriginal Art – the largest commercial Aboriginal art gallery in Australia. The collection is curated by the president of the Aboriginal Art Association of Australia, Adam Knight and features some of the largest works produced by Australia’s most respected Indigenous artists. Dinner was held in the iconic tower, rising 55 metres above the winery where a beautiful sunset was observed before sitting down to a fine regional showcase and three-course meal. Dinner was abuzz with conversation, aided by the wine from the vineyard below. Highlights include our tour guide Warwick McKenzie sharing stories of assisting Walter Rӧhrl in rallies and more (you’ll have to attend our next one to hear these campfire stories)! We are delighted to share some of the experiences as recounted by the participants:

LEGENDARY MOBY DICK REVIVED
Exclusive new edition of the
Porsche 935
The 515 kW (700 hp) racer, featuring a body reminiscent of the legendary Porsche 935/78, will be produced in a limited number of 77 units. The race car’s technology for clubsport events and private training on racetracks is based on the 911 GT2 RS. Like its

historic predecessor, most of the body has been replaced or supplemented by carbon-fibre composite parts (CFRP). With its streamlined extended rear, the 935 reaches a length of 4.87 metres. The width of the exclusive clubsport racer measures 2.03 metres. The spectacular aerodynamics are a completely new development and pays tribute to the Porsche 935/78 Le Mans race car, which fans dubbed 'Moby Dick' due to its elongated shape, massive fairings and white base colour. The distinctive wheel arch air
vents on the front fairings, which also feature on the GT3 Porsche 911 GT3 R, increase downforce at the front axle. Measuring 1,909 millimetres in width by 400 millimetres in depth, the rear wing lends aerodynamic balance. Many details of the exterior are a salute to winning vehicles from the company’s motor racing history: The aerodynamically capped rims echo those of the 935/78, with the LED rear lights on the rear wing endplates adopted from the 919 Hybrid LMP1. The side mirrors hail from the current Le Mans-winning 911 RSR,
with the exposed titanium tailpipes modelled on the Porsche 908 from 1968. These references are carried through to the cockpit. The knob on the gearshift lever has a laminated wood design and is reminiscent of racers such as the 917, the 909 Bergspyder and the Carrera GT. The 935 shares much of its underpinnings with the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport including engine, gearbox, brakes, roll-cage along with PSM & ABS.

In late January 2018, a fleet of twenty six 911 GT3 Cup Cars (Type 991.II) arrived in the country, ready for one of the most competitive seasons since the 2003 introduction of the one-make series.

The new 911 GT3 Cup features improvements in all key areas – power, aerodynamics, longevity, safety. Developed from scratch, the new naturally aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine moves from 3.8 to 4.0 litres and provides 25 more horsepower – from 338 kW (460 hp) to 357 kW (485 hp) at 7,500 rpm. PCM Motorsport supported our largest team to date including: Nick McBride (Pro), Marc Cini (Pro-Am), John Steffensen (Pro-Am), Michael Locciasano (GT3 Cup) & Jonathan Gliksten (GT3 Cup). Having made the move from Sonic to PCM Motorsport, Nick McBride entered the 2018 season as one of the most experienced racers with 32 round starts racing alongside veteran Pro-Am driver, Marc Cini. Working through the rounds, both drivers fought off fierce competition from rivals with a number of contacts including the race 1 opening round at Adelaide and a hard hit at The Bend Motorsport Park. McBride earned pole position at the Albert Park round and held onto his form for the weekend, finishing 1st in the last race.

The 2018 Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia championship ended on a high with McBride winning the Gold Coast finale – one close to our hearts as it was the Friedreich Ataxia round, where drivers were racing to find a cure. Overall season results saw Nick finish 8th in the Pro competition and Marc Cini finishing 7th in the Pro-Am competition. 2019 will see more racers joining the PCM Motorsport team, with the addition of Matt Belford to the GT3 Cup Challenge series. In addition to his local racing commitments, Marc Cini will also compete in the European Super Cup Series, racing at Barcelona, Monaco, Silverstone, Hockenheim, Spa & Monza.

The new high-performance sports car, with 383 kW (520 hp) and four-litre, naturally aspirated engine, is based on the 911 GT3. It has been refined to combine the performance-enhanced engine with a running-gear set-up that features re-calibrated rear axle steering designed for maximum dynamics and precision. The 911 GT3 RS accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, reaching a top speed of 312 km/h. Following the launch of the 911 GT3 and the 911 GT2 RS, this latest release will see Porsche present its third GT road-approved sports car within a year.
AERODYNAMICS AND INTERIOR BASED ON THE RACE TRIM Aerodynamics have determined the design of the wide, weightoptimised body with its classic rigid rear wing. The racing look continues into the interior with full bucket seats made of carbon, lightweight door panels with storage nets and opening loops, reduced sound absorption and new lightweight rear lid.

Porsche has added two extra sporty models to its Panamera range: The Panamera GTS and Panamera GTS Sport Turismo.
With powerful performance from the four-litre V8 bi-turbo engine, extra dynamic chassis systems including threechamber air suspension, and their own unique design elements and equipment, the Panamera GTS and Panamera GTS Sport Turismo harness a one-of-a-kind performance package.
EMOTION AND EFFICIENCY: V8 ENGINE WITH 460 HP AND SPORTS EXHAUST SYSTEM At the heart of the new Panamera GTS models is a four-litre V8 engine generating 338 kW (460 hp) and 620 Nm of torque, producing an especially guttural sound when combined with the standard sports exhaust system. The bi-turbo engine outperforms its predecessor by 15 kW (20 hp) and 100 Nm, sending the new generation from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds as it works in conjunction with the standard Sport Chrono package. Power is transmitted to the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive system by an eight-speed PDK dual clutch gearbox.
PERFORMANCE AND COMFORT: SPORTS CHASSIS WITH THREE-CHAMBER AIR SUSPENSION Designed to reflect the sporting prowess of the Panamera GTS models, the chassis systems are impressively dynamic. The sports chassis in the two GTS models has been lowered by 10 millimetres, with adaptive air suspension fitted as standard. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) function has also been adapted for an even sportier calibration.
THAT DISTINCTIVE GTS LOOK: SPORT DESIGN PACKAGE WITH BLACK HIGHLIGHTS The new Panamera GTS models’ basic equipment package has been significantly upgraded in a number of areas. The Sport Design package with a new front apron in black, and black trims at the rear apron, along with a variety of darker elements, highlights the more athletic appearance. The GTS models are equipped with 20-inch Panamera Design wheels painted in black as standard. The interior features hallmark elements of Alcantara on the seat centres, door panel armrest, centre console and a heated multifunction sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles, while the interior trims
are finished in anodised aluminium. The standard package also includes Connect Plus featuring the LTE telephone module with SIM card reader, Apple® CarPlay and the Porsche Connect App. With the optional Interior GTS package, drivers can customise their Panamera GTS models with various design elements, such as the rev counter, designer seams, and GTS logos in the contrasting shades of Carmine Red or Crayon.
A FIRST FOR THE PANAMERA: HEAD-UP DISPLAY WITH MANY CONFIGURATION OPTIONS The GTS models offer all the same innovations as the secondgeneration Panamera range. These include the digital Porsche Advanced Cockpit, assist systems such as adaptive cruise control, Surround View, comfort access and the optional rear-axle steering. The GTS also features one highlight that is new to the entire Panamera range – the head-up display. The display can be configured by the driver and projects all relevant information directly into their direct line of sight in full colour.
EVEN BETTER FOR DAY-TO-DAY DRIVING: THE FIRST EVER PANAMERA GTS SPORT TURISMO As is tradition at Porsche, GTS stands for Gran Turismo Sport. Porsche’s first road-approved sports car, the 904 Carrera GTS, was launched all the way back in 1963, bringing racing technology to the streets. This was followed by the 924 GTS and 928 GTS, which cultivated the concept throughout the 1980s and 90s. In 2007, the GTS celebrated its revival with the Carrera GTS. The first generation of the Panamera GTS followed in 2011, initially available as a sports saloon only. Now, the new Panamera GTS is also available as a Sport Turismo. S TA F F U P DAT E We are pleased to introduce a number of new team members who have joined PCM since our last edition. LOUIS ENGLISH Service Advisor, Classic Specialist Louis English joined the Service Department as Service Advisor in July 2017, after moving from Adelaide. His career spans over 7 years in automotive and, from a young age he has had a passion for classic cars. On a day-to-day basis, Louis enjoys interacting with the clients. ‘’The stories and cars that we see are truly unique and I feel honoured to be exposed to them on a daily basis’’. At the time of publishing, Louis has recently returned from the Targa Florio Australian Tribute 2018, having enjoyed some of Victoria’s finest roads in the 356 Quad Cam, alongside PCM Classic Technician Peter Bowen.
JUSTIN FULLGRABE Senior Sales Consultant Justin Fullgrabe, also originally from Adelaide, made the move to Melbourne in 2015. He has 14 years’ experience in automotive and a passion for motorsport. His favourite Porsche is an easy choice – the 993 Turbo! Justin has progressed through various areas of the industry, commencing his career as an apprentice mechanic in 2004. Away from work, Justin enjoys Melbourne’s arts and culture and spending time with his family. Welcoming a baby boy named Noah in October was one of his highlights of 2018 without doubt!
DANNY PUSTZAI Service Concierge Danny Pustzai has been a familiar face to many PCM service customers over the past 12 months. He recently joined the team in a full time role as Service Concierge. On a day-today basis he is the first point of contact for customers on arrival to PCM. He too shares a common interest of cars, a passion he has had since a young age. Each day in the driveway he is met with something different – whether it be the latest in the Porsche range or a rare classic. Away from work, Danny enjoys his music and is a trained jazz pianist.
LISA SCARSO Service Advisor Lisa Scarso recently joined PCM in the role of Service Advisor. She brings over 15 years’ automotive experience to the team, 10 of which have been with the Porsche marque. Lisa has always called Melbourne home and enjoys the café culture and restaurants the city has to offer. Her interest in cars has been a lifelong one, in particular motorsport. Lisa’s Porsche of choice is a 356 and on a day-to-day basis she enjoys the opportunity to engage with PCM’s long standing clients and ensure their service experience is a seamless one.

The competition saw cars competing over five days on Victoria’s open roads at regulated speed, including 56 trials. Competitors enjoyed some of regional Victoria’s finest roads and six tourist regions including: Gippsland, Yarra Valley & Dandenong Ranges, Phillip Island, Geelong & the Bellarine, Mornington Peninsula and the Great Ocean Road. Porsche Centre Melbourne was proud to participate in support of the classic Porsche community, entering the ‘quad-cam’ 356 1600 GT on permanent loan from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart into the Classic Trofeo. For the first stage, Parts Manager Paul Girt and Service Manager Giles Hunter were behind the wheel, recording a top ten time amidst strong competition. A team change on the Friday evening saw Porsche Classic Advisor Louis English and Porsche Classic Technician Peter Bowen take the helm. Assuming navigational duties for the final stage was Assistant Service Manager Scott Manley who partnered with Peter Bowen for his second consecutive stage.

Taycan
The ‘Mission E’ has been given its official name – ‘Taycan’ – with production set to begin in 2019. The future of mobility is another step closer: Series production of the first purely electric Porsche is set to begin next year. In preparation, the vehicle has now been given its official name: the Taycan. The name can be roughly translated as “lively young horse”, referencing the imagery at the heart of the Porsche crest, which has featured a leaping steed since 1952. “Our new electric sports car is strong and dependable; it’s a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and that epitomises freedom,” explains Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. Porsche announced the name for its first purely electric series as part of the ‘70 years of sports cars’ ceremony.
NAMES WITH REAL MEANING At Porsche, the vehicle names generally have a concrete connection with the corresponding model and its characteristics:
The name Boxster describes the combination of the boxer engine and roadster design; Cayenne denotes fieriness, the Cayman is incisive and agile, and the Panamera offers more than a standard Gran Turismo, which is what allowed it to win the Carrera Panamericana long-distance race. The name Macan is derived from the Indonesian word for tiger, with connotations of suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics.
FUTURE INVESTMENT DOUBLED Porsche plans to invest more than six billion euro in electromobility by 2022, doubling the expenditure that the company had originally planned. Of the additional three billion euro, some 500 million euro will be used for the development of Taycan variants and derivatives, around one billion euro for electrification and hybridisation of the existing product range, several hundred million for the expansion of production sites, plus around 700 million euro for new technologies, charging infrastructure and smart mobility.

PORSCHE FUTURE LAB:
Mission E Concept Porsche Cars Australia presented the all-electric Mission E concept car as part of a brand pop-up display in Barangaroo, Sydney last October. The ‘Future Lab’ allowed visitors to get up close and personal with Porsche’s history and future with a 1962 Porsche 356 on display alongside the Mission E concept. Visitors had the chance to explore the brand’s heritage via an interactive multimedia display and experience the future of Porsche through virtual reality. The Future Lab also hosted a series of special speaker events featuring Australians in the fields of electro-mobility, social trend forecasting, design, and motorsport.
Porsche Centre Melbourne hosted an exclusive group of clients who have an expression of interest for the Taycan, providing the opportunity to witness the concept ahead of the cars Australian release in 2020. The Taycan will feature two permanently excited synchronous motors (PSM) with a system output of over 600 hp (440 kW) accelerate the electric sports car to 100 km/h in well under 3.5 seconds and to 200 km/h in under twelve seconds. This performance is in addition to a continuous power level that is unprecedented among electric vehicles: Multiple jump-starts are possible in succession without loss of performance, and the vehicle’s maximum range is over 500 km*.

Motorclassica remains Australasia’s premier destination for vintage, classic and motoring enthusiasts.
Held at the iconic Royal Exhibition Hall in Melbourne, the 2018 event featured more than 160 pristine, rare and desirable machines from around Australia and beyond. To celebrate the 70th anniversary of Porsche sports cars, Porsche Centre Melbourne hosted an exhibition stand on the ground level showcasing the best of new and old with a 2019 911 GT3 RS alongside a 1993 911 Speedster. Event highlights included the Tour Classica, Club Sandwich, Live Restoration Theatre and historic number plate auction in which the heritage listed plate ‘’911’’ sold for a record-breaking $525,000. With over 20,000 visitors recorded over the three days, the event has grown to become one of the most well attended motor shows in Australia. PCM will return to Motorclassica to celebrate it’s 10th year at the Royal Exhibition Building in October.

Finally, back to Como for 356 Register Technically, the Australian 356 Registry returned to Melbourne’s Como Park North in late 2017 after many years’ absence, while the park was upgraded. However, as that was a weekend of biblical weather in Melbourne, it was washed out. Despite grey skies and occasional drizzle, the 2018 Parade on December 4 was much more Porschefriendly and a large turnout of early models and admiring spectators welcomed the Register’s true return at the popular South Yarra venue.

Centre Melbourne mounted a display of significant new Porsches. As Australia’s only Classic Partner, PCM also set up a popular static display, including the superb Australiandelivered 1959 model 356 quad cam Carrera Coupe, supported by current 911 and 718 Porsches. Of course, a highlight of the day was the announcement of the ‘Car of the Show’, with Victorian Gary Comb taking home the Porsche Centre Melbourne Trophy for his stunning silver 356A Speedster.
As in the past, Australia’s major early Porsche event drew 356 enthusiasts from around Australia and New Zealand, with cars making their way to Melbourne from New South Wales and South Australia to join their Victorian cousins.
Gold Award winners at the Parade were Mark Verschuur’s lovely olive green 356A Coupe, Sasha Stark’s silver 356C Coupe and Cameron Smith’s recently-restored white 356A Coupe.
Officially, 52 Porsche 356 models, 14 early 911 ‘901’ models and a selection of cars owned by Porsche Club of Victoria members, took to the field, while Porsche

Huntingdale Golf Day Held at Huntingdale Golf Club in mid-November, Porsche’s second social golf day of 2018 provided the opportunity for like-minded golfers to come together and share their passion for all things Porsche. The Presidents Cup was hosted in the following days at the Metropolitan Golf Club and PCM clients were thrilled to meet Marc Leishman, a Warrnambool local who proudly represented Australia in the competition, on his way to media commitments in an adjoining Huntingdale function area.
