Cochin Shipyard Limited signs MoU with Russian firm ● Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) and Joint Stock Company United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), Russia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate and engage in Design, Development and Execution of contemporary, State-of-Art vessels for Inland and Coastal Waterways. ● The MoU will give a push to the Government’s Make-in-India programme, as also its plans to develop eco-friendly and economic transportation along India’s inland waterways and coastal shipping routes under SAGARMALA. Narendra Modi to inaugurate Global Investors Summit Advantage Assam ● Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the Global Investors’ Summit ‘Advantage Assam’. ● The two-day event, showcase the state’s manufacturing opportunities and geostrategic advantages to foreign and domestic investors. ● The Summit has been organised by the Assam Government, in association with the industry body the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), aiming to position the state as India’s Expressway to Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries.
3. Mary Kom bags gold at India Open International Boxing ● M.C. Mary Kom clinched gold at the India Open International Boxing after defeating Filipino Josie Gabuco in the final. ● The five-time World Champion and Olympic bronze medallist registered a 4-1 win in the 48 kg
women’s weight category at the Thyagraj Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. ●
12th seed Mary had earlier booked her place in the finals after brushing aside Mongolian Altansetseg Lutsaikhan in the semi-final clash.

4. IOB receives Rs 173 cr capital infusion from government ● Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) has received Rs 173.06 crore capital infusions from the government in the current fiscal. ● In a regulatory filing, IOB has received Rs 173.06 crore as a contribution of the central government in the preferential allotment of equity shares of the bank as government’s investment during the 2017-18 fiscal.

5. Benegal named for V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award ● Veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal has been selected for the prestigious ‘V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award’ of the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF-2018). ● The award, carrying a trophy, a citation, shawl and cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, will be conferred on Benegal by Maharashtra Governor C.Vidyasagar Rao. ● An independent committee comprising Rahul Rawail, Kiran Shantaram, Prasoon Joshi, Bharathi Pradhan and Vinod Anupam unanimously recommended the name of Shri Shyam Benegal, taking note of his significant contribution to the growth and sustenance of documentary movements in India.
6. Alphabet has appointed John L. Hennessy as the new board chairman ● Alphabet has appointed John L. Hennessy as the new board chairman. Hennessy has been on the board since 2004 and Lead Independent Director since 2007. Hennessy replaces Eric Schmidt. ● Schmidt will remain as a “technical advisor” to Alphabet. ● Hennessy is a former president of Stanford University and has had an extensive career in the tech industry.
7. Shabnam Asthana wins Times Power Woman 2017 award ● Shabnam Asthana wins Times Power Woman 2017 award. The Times Group celebrated the invaluable contribution of women by introducing The Times Power Woman 2017 (Pune) awards. ● These awards focused on the women of Pune and the prestigious list included 34 select women with power, supremacy, command and control. ● The award was conferred on her by Dilip Kamble, Minister of State for Social Justice and Special Assistance in the Government of Maharashtra.

UAE launches world’s longest zip line ● The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has made a record by opening the world’s longest zip line, measuring 2.83 km in length. ● Guinness World Records officials certified the zip line in Ras al-Khaimah. ● The Jebel Jais Flight takes thrill-seekers atop the country’s largest mountain peak, from a launch pad 1,680 meters (5,512 feet) above sea level.
