World Youth Day (WYD) is a gathering of young people from all over the world with the Pope. Pope John Paul II announced the institution of World Youth Day in December, 1985, as an annual gathering of youth and young adults for prayer, worship and celebration of the Catholic faith. The event is observed annually in dioceses and every three years at an international gathering. It is a meeting to build and strengthen the bonds of faith, friendship and hope, symbolizing the union between people of different cultures and countries. WYD is a testimony of a living Church that is continually being renewed. The main goal of WYD is to inspire young people with Christ's message. It all started in 1984, by Pope John Paul II.

the motto is the Resurrection of Christ. The disciples, who until then, were frightened and had locked themselves inside for fear of the Jews, encounter Christ, the Victor over death. The encounter with the Risen Christ encourages all to live out this mandate. The disciples recognize Christ in the sharing of bread and testify that Christ lives! It is in this context that Christ gives the mandate: Go! Go because He is alive and He walks in front of His friends. Go because Christ is victorious and remains with each member of the Church. Go and announce the Resurrection!

WYD Rio Logo The logo attempts to capture the image of Jesus and the

THE PURPOSE OF WORLD YOUTH DAY IS meaning of being a disciple. The logo has the image THREEFOLD 1. Putting Trust in the Young - coming together of young adults from the four corners of the world and a strong reminder of the strength and confidence the young bring to the Church today. 2. Gathering Together - a time to put trust in the world's youth and a calling for the world's youth to come together as one people. 3. Meeting the International World on a Human Level International events are able to stir much hope but also many fears (increase in fundamentalism, nationalism and other new conflicts. .) The Church and Christians themselves have a role to play in preventing the development of these fears and in aiding each person in finding their way and discovering hope.

WYD Rio Theme

“Go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19) is the theme of WYD Rio2013. The theme brings together young people from Brazil and the whole world to take up the call to the mission, and to be witnesses of the Risen Christ. Taken from the last part of the Gospel of Matthew, the context of P.O. Box 25562 Safat 13116 Kuwait Tel : 24317631 (Res.) of Christ the Redeemer in the centre of the picture. Together, the elements of the logo resemble a heart. This is because the heart has become the centre of faith among the nations. In the logo, the arms of Christ the Redeemer go beyond the border of the heart as an allusion of the welcoming arms of God awaiting the youth from the whole world. It represents Brazil’s cordial and generous welcome. The upper part (in green) was inspired by the lines of the Sugar Loaf, universal symbol of the city of Rio de Janeiro, and the cross reinforces the meaning of the Brazilian territory known as the Land of the Holy Cross. The bottom part (in blue), represents the Brazilian shore, and the green and yellow represent these colors on the Brazilian flag. The Logo was designed by Gustavo Huguenin, a 25 year-old from Brazil. World Youth Day Rio released the official hymn, the song is called in Portuguese “Esperança do amanhecer”, “Hope of the Dawn” in English. The chorus says “Christ invites us, Come my friends. Christ send us, Be missionaries”.

Acting Vicar’s Message Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, The Church is the body of Christ. It is a believing and worshipping community that makes the Church a reality in the local level. So, the Christian Church is not an organization or a building, but a faith community, loving, sharing and caring community that proclaims and manifests faith and life in Christ. It is a community that expresses the life of the Kingdom of God. As worshipping community we need to radiate the divine love and light through our life and action. These days several of our members are leaving to India for vacation. We wish all of them to have a safe journey and wonderful vacation. Let us uphold all of them in our prayers for their safe return. Our children who have completed their 12th standard seeking higher education are also proceeding for their admissions. Let us pray for them to get admissions for their choice and to be safe in the hands of the Almighty while away from their parents. It is with heart full of gratitude to God I look back to the previous month. Church’s daily activities and VBS was a great success. I extend my thanks to Very Rev. Dr. D. Philip, VBS Director, Teachers and all the team members for their great work. Also, I thank the Office-bearers and all the Church Executive members for their prayers, cooperation and support. As per the kalpana of Metropolitan Tirumeni, Rev. Sunil Joy Achen is appointed as your new vicar from 1st May 2013 onwards. Achen is expected to reach here in Kuwait by the end of July 2013. He is a good shepherd. Let us prepare ourselves to give full support to him and welcome him. May God bless us all. In Christ Rev. Chacko Thomas

Stewardship Stewardship means being good managers of the resources that we have earned and that life has given us. As good stewards we know that when we choose to spend our time or money there are always opportunities foregone. We consider our choices and we use our resources in keeping with our values and life mission. Stewardship means that we weigh not only our own needs and desires but those of other people and future generations. We realize that none of us is a self-made person and that part of what we own is wealth that flows from others through us. We appreciate the natural resources, societal resources and financial resources that have been handed down to us by our ancestors and we are conscious of our own legacy. “We stand at a critical moment in Earth’s history, a time when humanity must choose its future. As the world becomes increasingly interdependent and fragile, the future at once holds great peril and great promise . . . It is imperative that we, the people of Earth, declare our responsibility to one another, to the greater community of life, and to future generations.” – The Earth Charter “As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” (1 Peter 4:10)

The Stewardship Hand RELATIONSHIP: Leviticus 26:12

God desires a close relationship with us. He loved us before we loved Him. Our relationship with God is not one of equals since He is the Owner and we are the stewards of His possessions.

OWNERSHIP : Psalm 24:1

God is the owner of everything and He has transferred dominion over His creation to us (Genesis 1:26). As faithful stewards, we understand that we have been assigned the management or stewardship of God’s possession. We are responsible to the Owner for the manner in which we conduct our stewardship responsibilities.

POSSESSIONS : Proverbs 3:9-10 Because God loves us He has blessed us with many possessions, such as time, talent, and treasure. The way we use our possessions demonstrates our love to Him. As faithful stewards, we must use our possessions for His glory, to benefit others, and not for personal gain. SACRIFICE : Romans 12:1

The Hebrew word used in the Old Testament for sacrifice is “korban”, and it means to come close to God. Sin separated us from God, but Christ’s death on the cross, as the sacrifice for our sins, provided a way for us to come close to Him. As a Christian, living for Christ is our sacrifice to Him. When we use our possessions (time, talents, and treasures) to His glory and to benefit others, we signal to God, and to the world, our desire to have a close relationship with Him.

LOVE : John 15:9 God is love. Stewardship that is based on God’s love allows us to look beyond the faults of others while using our possessions to supply their needs (John 13:34,35). The thumb is the only finger that can touch all of the other fingers, so our love for God and for our fellowmen must permeate all aspects of our stewardship experience. Stewardship is God’s love in action.
