And Jesus is the life:- He gives us not only commandments and noble ideals, but also the power to live them out, the power to become new people. Message from Vicar Dearly beloved in Christ, Greetings to you all in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!
Month of May approaches, and May 1st is observed as May Day; it is called Labour Day. There is an incident behind the observance of this day: In early May of 1886, anarchist and labour activists rioted in Haymarket Square in Chicago in the name of winning an eight-hour workday. During that time, most of the capitalists required their workers to work for 14 hours a day with little breaks or days off. During the protest, someone threw bomb. Five anarchists, accused of bomb-throwing and conspiracy, were later convicted and hanged. May Day became a day to remember their sacrifice as well as the sacrifices of all labourers who must work under the conditions of wage slavery. This day is, therefore, a day to remember the value of human labour and its dignity; and also its noble cause for nation building. Pope John Paul II in 1981 wrote on ‘human work’ in the encyclical writings that "work is more than just an activity ..., but an essential part of human nature... and man is the subject of work." Work is not a result of Adam’s sin, but is given to humanity from the moment of creation; whereas toil, according to Genesis, is a consequence of sin.
Jesus helped his father in carpentry; and St. Paul was a tent-maker along with his missionary work. The responsibility given to each one is divine because it is with a definite purpose of God. All are divinely appointed to do works for the Lord whatever levels or capacities they are in. Dignity of job is not on the basis of the scale of pay, or positions. The person who is working in the parliament, or in the enterprises, or in the household works, or in the fields and farms, or in the streets is great; and his/ her work is valuable at God’s sight. Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” said Confucius. In the modern world there are many situations that tend to degrade the dignity of work. For example, when work is treated as a product to be sold, or workers are considered as an impersonal "work force," then humans are being treated as instruments, and not as the subject of work. Other violations of dignity may be unemployment; under-employment of highly skilled workers; inadequate wages to support life; inadequate job security and forced labor. Jesus promises his love and care to all who are suffering from the yoke of the burdens of life. He said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). The God of justice stands with them in their struggles. Let all of you make your job more responsible, and do it with honest and truthfulness; and thereby cherish with its dignity and spirit. 7th PARISH DAY
The Seventh Parish Day was celebrated on April 11th, 2014 at the St. Thomas Center. The Chief Guest for the occasion was our Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulose Episcopa. The Parish Day message was delivered by Rt. Rev. Joseph Mar Barnabas Episcopa and felicitations were given by Rev. K. A. Varghese, Rev. C. V. Symon, Rev. V. S. Skariah, Rev. Sam T. Koshy and Mr. Roy Varghese. The meeting was presided over by Rev. Sunil Joy, which was followed by lunch, hosted by the Parish.
FIRST COMMUNION SERVICE
Eleven children participated in the Holy Sacrament of the blessed “bread” and “wine” for the first time, during the Holy Communion Service, which was celebrated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Abaraham Mar Paulose Episcopa, on 11th April 2014. It was a joyous, blessed and solemn occasion for the participants, parents and the rest of the congregation. “Come unto Me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” - Matthew 11:28

VBS 2014
This year's VBS for our children was conducted from 20th to 28th March 2014 at the St.Thomas Centre. It was a blessed programme under the able leadership of Evangelist Pradeep David, a missionary working in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. The VBS was attended by about 240 children, with 24 teachers sharing the God's word with them. The witnessing day was memorable, touching and Spirit-controlled, with most of our children, and teachers, dedicating or re-dedicating their lives to Jesus. Let us pray that our children will remain faithful in their commitment to the Lord. All thanks and glory to our Lord Jesus Christ.
