Boarding at STU is unique for the richness of relationships with faculty who are also dorm parents, coaches, and mentors, in a learning environment that extends beyond the classroom and the class day. Living with classmates from around the globe fosters empathy and cooperation in learning. The camaraderie of living with classmates and sharing evening and weekend experiences with day-student friends and families develops cherished relationships that last a lifetime.
Fermata the Blue is our all female a cappella group that performs at most school functions. This is one of many co-curriculars in the arts, including Fencing for the Stage, Woodworking, Contemporary Musical Ensemble, and Creative Writing, among others.
Community Time allows for a variety of all-school and small group events, from Honor Convocation to club meetings. The library and gym are open for students with no scheduled meetings.
Being a boarding student at STU matures you and builds you into your own person with your own drive and purpose. And that is hard to replicate in other conditions.--Hugo C., Class of 2017; Arizona State, 2021

Freshman and Sophomores have two hours of evening proctored study hall. Our Learning Skills Specialist is available as a resource. Advisors get to know you on a personal level. They help you set and achieve academic goals and monitor your social and emotional well-being. They are a pointperson and resource for your parents. Co-curriculars are a chance for you to explore old and new interests for credit but without the pressure of a letter grade. You may participate in a different activity each evening (i.e. Qigong, Nature Art, theater) or the same each afternoon (interscholastic sports.)

"I can't stress enough how much STU did for me academically. Freshman year of college, I was startled to discover that my academic foundation was superior to that of my classmates. STU equipped me with the writing, communication, and critical thinking skills to excel " --Hannah D. '16 Cornell, '20
