Thank You

Keeping It Green

A big thank you to the following supporters of the Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival

Free water will be provided (no need to buy those pesky bottles that get used once). Bring along your water bottle or buy one of our exclusive KVFF bottles to use throughout the festival. The bar will have re-useable middy's and wine glasses, getting rid of single use cups! Kangaroo Valley is Australia's first mainland 'Plastic Bag Free' town.' Let's make it the first 'waste free festival'.

Over decades of collecting folk songs, the Roaring Forties have found themselves custodians of a large amount of god-bothering songs from England, America and the Caribbean – and a proportion of these intersect with their vast repertoire of maritime songs – hence the title of this presentation. Don’t worry though, they’re as likely to convert you to religion as they are to shave their bellies with a rusty razor. Actually none of them know what a razor is. Sat 2.45 - 3.45 La Petite Grande

The Roar of the Crowd Delving through old and new traditional Australian song, story and poem, Chloe & Jason explore the clear duality in the nation’s modern history, unearthing a cycle of dispossession and dislocation. A rich and resonant presentation - with plenty to chew on... and plenty of laughs! Sun 11.30am - 12.30pm Pavilion

Den Hanrahan and the Rumrunners Den Hanrahan is a singer-songwriter whose songs tell the stories of modern Australia – from the red dust of the landscape, to the loves and losses of the people that have touched his life. Steeped in bluegrass, classic folk tradition and Australian country rock, Den, with longtime musical partner Matt Nightingale on upright bass, Dave O'Neill on mandolin and fiddle, Peter Logue on the squeezebox and Zena Armstrong on the bodhran (Irish Drum), is now exploring the source of his Irish/Celtic heritage with his band, The Rumrunners. Pushing beyond genres and dipping generously into the melting pot that is Australian folk music, Den Hanrahan and the Rumrunners have flung the rules out the window and the result is a surprisingly fresh take on roots music. Trilogy with Trio 42

Zumpa

Shoalhaven group Trio 42, Jim Dorrington, Vicki McCartney and Anne Stuart, join vocal group Trilogy (Joy, Kathy and Robin Sharpe) to present a selection of much-loved Irish and English folk songs. Classical guitar, cello, flute and three part harmonies breathe new life into traditional arrangements, with a few contemporary pieces thrown in.

Be transported with this ensemble to forgotten fishing villages, moonlit olive groves, and a hard life under a hot Sunday where peasants play music to celebrate life with a fierce sense of humour. They provide the sounds and energy of folk, gypsy and Italian world music woven expertly together to provide a truly spaghetti and meatballs experience.
