The Next Generation in On-Campus Housing Nothing affects the quality of life for students who live on campus more than their campus housing. As the University of Miami continues to rise as a top-tier research institution, so do our students’ expectations for a comfortable, secure, and supportive living and learning environment. In keeping with the University’s vision for growth, we are embarking on a multi-phase housing plan to improve our current housing offerings for students. In doing so, the University will meet student – and parent – needs and expectations as the institution continues to attract brighter and more talented students.

STUDENT HOUSING VILLAGE

The first phase of the plan is to construct a new facility on the south side of Lake Osceola. Built with a vision of integrating the many aspects of campus life, this new Student Housing Village will elevate the daily experiences of students, faculty, staff and visitors. The new Student Housing Village will differentiate UM nationally and internationally. The village will activate the surrounding area and highlight the lush greenery of the Coral Gables campus. It will excite the campus community and become a destination in and of itself. Above all, this new village will add to the sense of place and belonging for those who live, work and learn there.

vision With its quintessential “Miami modern” style, integrated living and educational amenities, versatile recreational and event spaces, and retail outlets all on one site, the 546,000*-square-foot lakeside Student Housing Village will redefine what it means to live, learn, and work at the University of Miami.

innovate. The village’s seamless integration of technology and design maximizes its utility in every respect. Intelligently outfitted classrooms, conference rooms, and residential areas will enhance the campus; innovative features such as rooftop green spaces, LEED-certified construction, and a rain garden will advance the University of Miami’s sustainability initiatives.

UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI

inspire. Showcasing the beauty of the Coral Gables campus and affording sweeping views of Lake Osceola, the housing village will inspire the campus community. Residents and visitors alike will respond to the original use of space— the flexible, open-concept warehouse, outdoor fitness circuit, and “maker space” for budding entrepreneurs—with creative thinking of their own.

educate. activate. A vibrant and lively space and the center of academic and cultural interaction on campus, the housing village will be more than just a residence hall. The village will feature an activity hub and outdoor plazas to facilitate engagement and interaction among members of the campus community. The integration of academic, programmatic, retail and pop-up spaces, and outdoor recreational and social areas will give rise to an active and dynamic atmosphere.

Designed with the UM student experience in mind, the village breaks down barriers to learning and fosters collaboration. By providing opportunities for individual, group, interactive, and experiential learning, the village facilitates current teaching pedagogies. It includes large-scale learning spaces, such as the auditorium and the 24-hour study lounge, as well as more private study spaces located on each floor of the living community.

differentiate. A boon to the University’s ability to attract and retain top talent, the new housing village will distinguish UM on the national and international stages. From room layouts and finishes to the integration of technology, the village’s indoor spaces project a thoroughly original concept. Seamless transitions from indoor to outdoor spaces, tropical landscaping and water features, and a unique design capitalizing on the allure of South Florida’s natural environment will set the housing village—and UM—apart from other top universities.
