interview with yazmeen for her song i dont

My name is Danya, I was born in Dallas, but my whole family is from the Caribbean. My passion for music rst started with my dad's huge collection of music, mostly CDs and vinyl. He always played me the old-school stu . Also, remember the era when Mcdonald's would give out those Kidz Bop CDs? I would be so happy when I got those as a kid. I had my own little radio in my room, I would play those CDs and whatever else I had

Poison by Bel Biv Devoe, and also old school Micheal Jackson but speci cally the Jackson 5 Christmas CD. Also, do you remember Geronimo Stilton? there was a speci c soundtrack from one of the audiobooks that I used to love.

I listen to a lot of music and when I nd a loop that I like in a certain song I go and I chop that up in Garage Band and record my own vocals over it. My whole setup is my laptop and some earbuds and my guitar sometimes.

I get really upset because I don’t like a lot of the stu that I make, and sometimes Garage Band can be di cult to use, it's not as advanced as something like Ableton. For example, whenever I am trying to speed stu up or slow stu down, Garage Band only allows you to speed up the tempo of the entire song instead of being able to speed up certain portions.

Thunder Cat and Mamii! Mamii does a lot of really cool stu , she worked with Syd the Kyd from The Internet. The Internet is also a huge inspiration, I love that whole crew, they are epic. I also love Tricot a Japanese Math rock band, and then recently a newfound favorite is Coalter of the Deeper (make sure to gatekeep them).

Thunder Cat and Mamii have a lot of really great harmonies that I love so much that I do a lot of harmonies within my own music. Also because I sample a lot of stu that is already an inspiration in and of itself.

I just kept making stu , rst I had to gure out how to produce at home, which was pretty tough. I am also self-taught through music, production, and playing the guitar; I taught myself everything I know. I made this single around this time last year, sampled from the song Show and Tell by Juicy.

I felt it was the most clean cut thing I had made thus far, I have made about 10 songs since. And my middle is Yazmeen!

“Clearly no ones ever told you no, Trust I am not the one to tell you yes, you really thought I’d be nessed” Which is so 18-year-old me to write, I wrote this during a time when I was talking to people who didn’t care about me.

Don’t let people take advantage of your time, you don’t owe anyone anything.

I hope not sad, I want people to dance that is my main goal: make music that people want to dance to

Right now guitar but usually piano, my favorite song to play on the piano is “song of storms” from The Legend of Zelda

Harp, it is so pretty, and drums. I also want to learn bass, I’ve never played before but it is more an instrument I plan on learning then a bucketlist instrument.

Draw, watch little shows, I like to read comics and manga. I like to skateboard but I'm not good at it at all, but it is fun I like it a lot.
