SELF­CRITICISM

Although I am not only an Ar st and a Designer, but also graduated in Art History, and I studied Art cri cism and Psychology for the Art field, I know that, as an Ar st, it isn't appropriate that I make the Cri c of myself; in this book I didn't mean to do that, I wished to give Cri cs of my art, the informa ons for a correct and true evalua on of it, telling about my story, my thought, about what I have done, and the reasons that mo vated me to that.

My Art is figura ve and symbolic, it communicates through symbols, but it isn't cryp c like some modern art pain ngs are: to understand their meaning, you must ask the Ar st. Art is communica on, and communica on must be received and understood, otherwise, what is it useful for? Even figura ve Art can be not easy to interpret, but it gives interpreta ve referring points even to those who don't understand about Art. But figura ve style is not on fashion; nowadays other styles are appreciated. I love figura ve style, and I will never do something to please the moment's fashion. Art and Fashion are opposites: Fashion is applied art, Design, crea vity, but oriented to the present needs, for economics reasons, this is its goal; and today Art is a business, like Fashion is. But Pure Art is something else: it is made to overcome the me limits, to last over me, not to be appreciated in a limited historical moment.

Despite this, my art is also very modern and contemporary, because I created an innova ve style: the fusion of Art and Design. In my works of Art I also insert my crea ons of design, mainly jewels, for the meaning of the artwork, and, at the same me, these crea ons of design are more than decorave objects, because they have a preminent symbolic meaning that makes them objects of Art. Even Scenography is Design, but, in this case, the symbolic meaning is relevant, because it has to represent even big places in the small place of a theatre, and to convey to spectators the mood of the story represented on stage. My pain ngs of scenography projects can also be read wth a different interpreta ve key, not connected with my primary inspira on source.

Another peculiarity of my works of Art, is that most of them are on paper, of different kinds, it is a material that I love, and I prefer it to canvas.

I don't paint to make beau ful decora ons that can be hung on the wall, to match the dècor of the house; my pain ngs are like books to hang on the wall, they have to be read carefully, read again to discover more par culars, to understand other things. My pain ngs tell about my mind, my personality, about my personal and professional experiences, they transmit my culture, they teach what I have learnt, and, obviously, I am not referring to their style or their technique, but to their meaning.
