THE SENDAI MEDIATHEQUE WAS CONCEPTUALIZED AS A SPACE THAT WOULD OFFER NEW TYPES OF PROGRAMS: A “DISMANTELING (0F) CONVENTIONAL ARCHITYPES.” THE STRUCTURE IS MEANT TO BE A SYMBOL OF PUBLIC SPACE, A FULL OF LIFE PLAZA, FOR THE CITIZENS OF SENDAI. THE BUILDING COMBINES FOUR MAIN PROGRAMS: AN ART GALLERY, A LIBRARY, A SERVICE CENTER FOR THE VISUALLY AND AUDIO IMPAIRED, AS WELL AS A MEDIA CENTER FOR VISUAL IMAGES.
