Abstract

The Dissertation research process was taken by B PRABAKARAN from the IV year of KSA. I was been taken progress in comparative research and qualitative research methodology. The content in this paper is guidelines for the designers who have been following. The research topic

REVITALIZING BUSY STREETS - The Power of Public Space, explores the potential of revitalizing busy streets through the creation of public space. The project examines the benefits of public space in urban environments, including the promotion of social interaction, physical activity, and community engagement. The research also investigates the challenges and limitations associated with the implementation of public space initiatives in busy streets, such as traffic congestion, safety concerns, and the need for community support.

Using a mixed-methods approach, the study will involve both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. The research will focus on a case study of a busy street in a major urban centre, examining the feasibility and effectiveness of public space initiatives in this context.

The results of this study have important implications for urban planners, policymakers, and community leaders, to create more livable and sustainable urban environments. The findings can inform the design and implementation of public space initiatives in busy streets, taking into account the unique challenges and opportunities of these environments. Ultimately, the goal of this research is to contribute to the development of more vibrant, connected, and livable cities, where people can thrive and enjoy a high quality of life

CHAPTER - 1 OVERVIEW

REVITALIZING BUSY STREETS - The Power of Public Space

1.1 GENERAL

PUBLIC SPACE is a term used to describe a wide range of activities and initiatives that aim to transform public spaces into more vibrant, interactive, and engaging places for people to gather and connect.

Public space provides a theoretical base to investigate the basic knowledge of the public space and the community place (also semi-public space).

Therelationship between peopleandtheenvironment willbebased onthepublicspace because this is a good place for people to have social activities and improve their mental health(fig 1.1). This action not only has meaning in health but also in mental. The relationship between the quality of the public space and the issues of segregation and daily life is the primary goal.

1.2 AIM

To provide design about the space that adapts and reconfigures in real-time response to the activities, behavior, and movements of people.

1.3 OBJECTIVES

 In recent years, cities around the world have been experiencing a surge in population growth, leading to increased demand for public spaces. Public spaces are essential for social interaction, cultural exchange, and community building.

 However, the rapid pace of urbanization has put a strain on these spaces, particularly in busy streets, where the constant flow of traffic, noise, and pollution often make it challenging to create meaningful public spaces.

 Providing a platform for communication and the exchange of ideas, information, and knowledge.

 Enhancing the quality of life and well-being of individuals and communities by providing access to resources, services, and amenities.

 Achieving a level where balanced and mutual relations are established among all various factors.

1.4 METHODOLOGY

 PHASE 1: Study about basic understanding of public space and their activities by primary data collection in literature study

 PHASE 2: Secondary data collection by a history of public spaces.

 PHASE 3: Live case studies and interviews with urban planners, designers, public and community leaders

 PHASE 4: Comparative analysis by collecting data and making inferences.

 PHASE 5: To provide a design solution based on the studies and analysis.

1.5 SCOPE

 Many urban planners and designers have turned to public space interventions as a way to revitalize and activate these spaces.

 Public space interventions are temporary or permanent installations that aim to transform existing public spaces into vibrant, dynamic, and engaging places for people to gather, play, relax, and connect.

 These interventions can take many forms, including parklets, pop-up markets, outdoor art installations, and interactive installations.

 It helps to analyze the various people (all ages) and their activities.

1.6 LIMITATIONS

 The study of providing public space intervention in particular spaces like institutions, parks, etc.,
