The Firm HAO Architects is a multi-disciplinary design studio based in Dubai. Founded by Manoj H Rathod Fundamental belief of the firm is “innovation & simplicity”, i.e. To develop innovative & simple architectural design solution having a positive impact to the built environment. Manoj H Rathod is the founding principal & design director of h-architects office, prior to founding the design studio, Manoj H Rathod was Lead Design Manager & Head of Indian operation at ArchGroup International in Dubai & India. Since joining ArchGroup international in 1998 for 15.5 years, he had been an integral participant in the design & development of number of significant & prestigious projects in middle east & Indian sub-continent. His innovative & versatile designs helped strengthen the practice & have won many international awards. His works experience covers most of the building typology from master planned communities, super tall buildings, individual houses, work spaces, institutional, hotels, resorts, etc. , his most recent project for emirates airlines, 86 storey, 1628 room, 5 star rated “JW Marriot – Marquis, Dubai” is rated “the tallest hotel in the world” (source - wikipedia.org). Manoj H Rathod’s 15 years of experience include more than 150 completed projects. His ability to understand all technical aspect of the project is an asset to organization. Many landmark projects are credited in his name including 2,200,000 sf “Emirates Airlines Headquarters”, an airline headquarter building, predominantly an office building which included a crew terminal (mini airport terminal) & an integrated metro station. 4,250,000 sf “Zabeel Corporate Park”, a mixed use development of premium offices, 5 star hotel & b2b mall. 1,500,000 sf & 900,000 sf “Marinascape & Bayside residences”, award winning premium residential development in Dubai marina.

AED 13 billion Master Planned Residential community called “Emirates Tourism Village” by Emirates Airlines, mainly for airline staff comprising of independent & attached villas, apartments & amenities like shopping, schools, community centers etc. $ 10 billion, one of the most ambitious Master planned community in Erbil, Iraq. Comprising of 59 tower buildings, the Mixed use development has residences, offices, shopping Mall, amenities like nurseries, clinic etc. and the most important element is “Marriott Erbil Hotel, Marriott Executive Apartments & Marriott Branded Sale Apartment” Few of the Un-built projects also include project like a 90 storey “Salam Tower” a mixed used project comprising of offices, hotel & residential apartments. 120 storey 5 star “hotel tower “at City of Arabia. Prior to joining ArchGroup, Manoj H Rathod worked as Architect for P.G.Patki Associates in Mumbai. Directly working under the guidance of his mentor Mr. P.G.Patki, during the period his experience include project like “Hyatt Regency, Katmandu”, “ Amar villa’s, Agra”, “ refurbishment of Oberoi Mumbai & Kolkata” & “Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, Mumbai”

With extensive experience of our founder / design director in multiple disciplines, including architecture, interior design, Master planning. Bhumisq Hospitality Ebene, Mauritius Schematic Design 640,000sf mixed used development comprising of a 200 Key - 5 Star Hotel & 60 - Service Apartment built on a 2 acres land parcel. The Development is part of a large Masterplan of a business district in the center of Mauritius. Sighting a huge demand for business hotel client approached HAO Architects to develop this property. Conceptualized built mass comprises of a 3 storey podium housing all the Public areas, 32 storey tower comprising of Hotel Guest Levels & Service Apartment & 2 storey basement housing all BOH areas & Parking facilities. Podium & Tower are carefully integrated in form & treatment. Visually the tower looks integral part of the Podium & appears to rise up from podium.. As the tower ins in Mauritius water is a very much integral to the overall Design Evolution. Tower rest on a large water body this giving effect of a floating tower. Waterfalls are used in various places like Main Entrance Lobby, Podium Restaurant & Roof Deck. Contemporary Material of Glass & Aluminum is used to treat this ultra-Modern Tower which will be an Icon of Mauritius. Once built will be tallest in Mauritius.

Burj Pacific Business Bay, Dubai Schematic Design, Completion 2015 400,000 sf, High-end Residential Development on Business Bay, with a magnificent location in Business Bay District, with one side facing the Burj Khalifa & other side abutting Landscaped Park. Designed in Contemporary Line this Glass & aluminium Cladded building is a simple functional “L” shaped building resting on a rectangular Podium. Shape of the Tower derived to maximise the view to the front, rear & within the Property, and also to avoid any view to the neighbouring project. Use of Ground Level is for commercial activity like Retail & Fine Dining overlooking the Park & Upper Levels are used for Residential. Podium roof is utilized as social space & is accommodated with Gymnasium, Swimming pool & children’s play area. Podium Villas & Duplexes are placed on these levels with front & back gardens. Parking for Residential is mainly on the Basement levels & Podium Parking will be utilized for Commercials.

Holiday Inn Trisshur, Kerala Concept Design 120 room, Proposal for Holiday Inn in the city of Trisshur. “T” shaped form is derived of constrained of the irregular property boundary & with no available view to the adjacent property. With limited buildable floor area available the floor plate is a efficient double loaded corridor to maximize key count. Structural grids are well places so as to make an economical design preposition. Setback along the property is smartly used as an extension of the fine dining restaurants on the ground level thus maximizing seat count. The entry is a grand double height lobby with feature stair leading to the first floor level. it’s a modern building with Aluminum & Glass Façade reflecting the minimal interior specification of the Operator.

Marriott Marquis Business Bay, Dubai Completion, October 2012 3.45millon sf, 354m high, 82 storey Twin Towers form once of the most Iconic building are located in Business Bay District. Rated as “Tallest Hotel in the World” Standard guest rooms - 1380 no. Suites - 240 no. Presidential suite - 4 no. Banquet hall - 1 no, capacity 1400 no. Business Center – 1 no approx. 55000 sf. Shops - 18 no. Restaurants - 19 no. Spa - 1 no. The form is inspired by the date palm a symbol deeply entrenched in the Arabian culture. The towers are symmetrically placed on the 7 storey high podium to get the best views of the Burj Khalifa, Business Bay and Sea. Geometry of the tower & its orientation is carefully done to cut the winds as it is one of the most dominant force for the design of high rise buildings. The podium houses all the public areas, restaurants, banquet hall and the essential back of house areas. The grand entrance lobby is 4 floors high and overlooks the business bay. The 1000 capacity banquet hall has an independent access for smooth functioning. The podium terrace has one of the largest spas in Dubai and is beautifully landscaped with gardens and swimming pool. The delicate forms and detailing on the exterior belie the sophisticated engineering and technological inputs within the towers. The structural design has undergone rigorous testing and rechecking on computer generated models and wind tunnel tests. The electro mechanical design is also of the highest standards befitting the building which aspires to set the benchmark for hotels in the region

Marriott Erbil Erbil, Iraq Under-Construction, Completion 2015 1.1 million sf. Complex comprises of a G+30 storied Hotel, G +7 storied Service Apartments and G + 8 storied Sale Apartments with a common Podium. The Hotel and Serviced Apartments are managed by Marriott and Sale Apartments are as per Marriott Standards. The Hotel facilities include the Main Entrance Lobby, Lounge (Great Room), 4 Nos. Restaurant Outlets, 900 sm Banquet hall, Business center, Executive Lounge and a Roof top Restaurant. The guest rooms include standard rooms, Jr.Suites, VP Suites and a presidential suite, all totaling up to 207 keys. The service apartments comprise of studios, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom units, with a total of 96 keys. The Sale apartments comprise of 1, 2, and 3 bedroom units, with a total of 48 keys. The emphasis is more on the height of the Hotel building which shall be an important landmark structure in Erbil which is an upcoming new city. The form is dynamic and concave in nature. The strategic location of the plot meant that the building had to be closer to the main road, but it is still subdued in its presence due to Concave form. The language of the complex is contemporary with Glass and locally available Stone cladding.

Grosvenor House Dubai Marina, Dubai Completed 2004 & 2010 1.2 million sf, Grosvenor House Is One of the first towers in Dubai Marina the prestigious Grosvenor House has 217 5 star guest rooms and 217 serviced apartments. Other facilities like fine dining restaurants, business center, banquet halls and the world renowned Buddha Bar enhance the guest and visitor experience. The striking 45 storey high stepped form of the building and the use of precast concrete panels in combination with high quality glazing for the facade ensure an iconic status to the building. The stepping form also provides luxurious terrace s and balconies that overlook the Dubai marina and the Arabian Sea. The tower has two components the Hotel and the Serviced Apartments. Due to judicious planning both the components are wrapped around a Central core. The guests and users access each independently but are served by the same service spine that runs up the core. This planning not only was economical in terms of space and cost but is actually very efficient as only one Back of the House facility is used for all the guest rooms and apartments. Synonymous to the Le Meridian tag line of “Landmark of Luxury� in its brief stint since completion it is already an architectural landmark in the city of Dubai.

New 45 storey identical Grosvenor house residences connects the existing twin Grosvenor house hotel at podium level one. The scheme comprises of 6 hotel floors 32 apartment floors, 4 podium levels, and three service floors, as well as ground and promenade floors. There will be 6 villas, 42 hotel rooms, 63 hotel suites, 59 one bedroom, 94 two bedroom, 63 three bedroom apartments. The facilities will include a health club, restaurants, swimming pool and rooftop theme restaurant bar. After the successful completion and commissioning of the Grosvenor house hotel the client wanted to add a twin tower to the adjacent plot. Therefore as required the external appearance of the tower is same as the hotel building. Number of floors, the stepped form of building and pre-cast concrete panels will create almost a replica of the existing building. In spite of internal functions being different and changes in the podium floors when complete the two buildings will read as a twin tower development.


Le Meridian Al Aqua Beach Resort Fujairah, UAE Completed 2003 350,000 sf. Resort is located on the picturesque beaches of Al Aqah, Fujairah on a site measuring 750,000 square feet. It features 218 spacious rooms and suites. The development comprises of a basement, lower ground, upper ground and 21 storey. Resort Approach is via a majestic ramp, giving guests the impression of having arrived at Special Place. Upon entering the grand lobby & 14 storey Atrium, Guests are greeted by the spectacular view of the landscaped lawns, pool and the magnificent Arabian Gulf beyond The building has two wings separated by a centrally-placed atrium. Level 1 to 13 accommodates 172 standard guestrooms and six suites. The executive floors from level 14 to 18 feature 36 typical rooms and four suites. A private reception and lounge is located on the 14th floor for the exclusive use of Royal Club and suite guests. Resort also has the dedicated facilities for diving and water sports and for the children called the Penguin Club. Other outdoor and sport facilities include tennis, squash courts and beach volleyball facilities on a 250 meter private 250-m beach. one of the Unique feature is providing the health club and gymnasium facilities in the basement without sacrificing daylight. They open onto a beautifully landscaped sunken courtyard which provides light and easy access to the pool and lawn facilities.

On the beach side, the landscaping breaks away from the order and rigors of the city life. The whole scheme has been developed as an organic growth of features and facilities around the UAE's largest free-form pool much as one would expect life to spring around a watering hole in the middle of the desert. The overflow-type pool, developed in two levels, has a variety of facilities such as pool bars, performance stage, piazzas scattered around. Several innovative features are used to create interest as well as perform important tasks. For instance, the main water feature is developed in three levels starting from the upper terraces and gradually stepping down to the sunken court in front of the

gymnasium at the basement level of the main building. Capitalizing on the natural beauty of the site with the sea on one side and the Hajar mountains as a backdrop; all the 218 rooms and suites face the sea. The built form is unique with a fan shaped stepped form giving an appearance of bird in flight. All facilities put together like fine dining restaurants, banquet hall, large landscaped gardens and one of the largest free form swimming pool in the region provide a complete experience for the guests. The landscaped lawns around the pool feature a stage area and up to 1,000 people can be accommodated for social events. Owing to the remote location of the resort the same plot also houses the complete staff requirements in a dedicated building


Shangri-La Sadiyat Sadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi Foundation Complete, On Hold Resort situated adjacent to the golf course development & in the hotel district of Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi, Consisting of 312 key five star Shangri-La Hotel building & 10 services villas Placement of the Hotel block is unconventional & it goes away from traditional planning methodology of placing rooms parallel to the beach/sea front. Hotel block is placed along the longer length of the plot & facing the adjacent golf course & with the axial view of the sea. All the rooms facing the Golf Couse also have the view of the proposed Guggenheim in Sadiyat Island. This also gives an undivided site to the project; visitors coming to the project can see the complete property once they arrive at the lobby. Entrance pavilion is a huge tent like structure inspired and evolved from the traditional Bedouin tent in sleek modern lines detached from the Main Hotel block & houses coffee shop & a bar The Design is inspired by the “Arabesque” cityscape and form whilst carefully incorporating exquisite traditional themes in a Modern Sophisticated manner which in turn is translated as Random play of Mashrabiya’s & solid surfaces forming the skin of building façade. Landscape and water bodies are integrated within the plot & interfaced with beach & adjacent golf course so as to have continuity. Dune Protection Zone separates the Hotel Landscape from the Saadiyat Island beach. Two boardwalks are provided for Hotel and Villa guests and visitors to access the beach.

Holiday Inn Cochin, Kerala Completed 2007 Located on the Nation Highway Bypass at Vennala, Holiday inn is 212 Room of 42 sm, 16 storey Business Hotel. Due to the available site constraints the design evolved by placing a functional & efficient double loaded hotel room arrangement. The massive & complex programme requirement is efficiently sorted out with modular grid planning. The podium is designed on the rectangular grid maximizing the basements efficiency to accommodate almost 4500 car parks. The Towers rest on the podium oriented to a diagonal grid along East-WestNorth-South Axis creating interesting intermediate spaces on the connecting terrace & also make the day light available to Tower all throughout the day. The development (cluster s) consists of 3 Towers s1, s2 & s3. While proximity to Sheikh Zayed Road (Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway) & red line metro makes commuting easier, other famous land marks in the vicinity are Jebel Ali free zone, Dubai internet city, media city, Dubai marina, Mall of Emirates, Ibn Battuta Mall etc. Buildings at cluster S1 and S3 are 33 storeyed + 2 floors for health club and swimming pool. Emirates Airlines Headquarters Al Rashidiya, Dubai Completed & Operational - 2006 2.5million sf Emirates Headquarters building adjoining the Dubai International Airport is one of the most complex programme, with a range of activities like Crew Processing facilities (Mini Terminal for Emirates Crew), standard & executive offices, Staff Health center, Business Center, Auditorium, Food Court, etc. It’s a small community in itself. This multi discipline structure is a unique facility & one of its kinds for any Airline in the world. Inheriting a narrow strip of land on the Airport Road of 450x120m oriented along East West Axis. The challenge was to accommodate 500,000sf of Crew Terminal, 1 Million sf. Of Usable Office Space & 2400 Car parking spaces. Solutions was derived by placing Office centrally placed with 2 parking block on either side. Placing the office along East-west Axis help to maximize building façade on North & South which allows maximum penetration of light in the building & the Central Atrium. Southern glass façade installed with high performance glass to minimize energy use. Lower 3 floors, Basement, Ground and 1st Level are Crew Terminal which are highly secured, the Red Zone & are Arrival and Departure facilities for the Crew. Equipped with 40 briefing rooms, Duty Free Shopping, Luggage Handling facilities, customs and immigration facilities it is a mini airport dedicated for the Crew. Basement levels acts like Arrival & Departure Bus terminal with 20 Departure Bays & 5 Arrival Bays & links up with the Airport with an underground tunnel below the busy Airport Road. Providing flow of staff and security personnel which is essential to the overall expansion plans of Emirates Airlines. 2nd Level, Green Zone is more of social facility for Emirates Staff & has facilities like Supermarkets, Laundry, Spa, health club, Bank, Auditorium, Food Court, Business Center, etc. all placed around Grand Atrium filling the building with Natural light. This level also is transitory space for Emirates staff & their guests & is connected to 2400 parking spaces (Block 1 – Staff & Block 2 – Guest). Staff & Guest coming by Dubai Metro can directly enter the level as the level is connected directly to Emirates Station dedicated for the Headquarters

Also one more important function deserves mention the Emirates Control room & Crisis Management Center housed on the 8th Floor for the most sensitive function of the project. Control Room monitors all the Emirates flight in real-time on a mega screen & the crisis management center is a huge call center facilities dedicated & to be used in case of Emergency.

Emirates Tourism Village Dubailand Detail Design 2009, On Hold 16.7 million sf. & AED 12 billion, Emirates Airlines Staff Residential project in a 500 hectare plot in Dubai land comprises of nearly 3800 villas and 3024 apartments. Interestingly the macro level planning is organic in form with gentle sweeping curves that sub-divide the plot into smaller neighborhood. However at each neighborhood level the circulation and planning is organized and orderly. The villas have 3 different categories namely the executive, twin and town house. Each neighborhood has these types in different themes such as Arabic, modern and Spanish. This creates variety and identity for each neighborhood. Adequate community facilities like recreation zones, landscaped parks, and leisure and retail areas are within easy reach of the residents. The main facilities are in the central park surrounded by the apartment blocks. Careful road and pedestrian planning link the smaller neighborhood facilities, allowing all residents to avail the facilities with ease.

Erbil Masterplan Erbil, Iraq Schematic Design, Completion 2016 $10 billion, one of the most ambitious Master planned community in Erbil, Iraq. Comprising of 59 tower buildings, the Mixed use development has residences, offices, shopping Mall, amenities like nurseries, clinic etc. and the most important element is “Marriott Erbil Hotel, Marriott Executive Apartments & Marriott Branded Sale Apartment” Design is conceptualized considering Modular Construction methodology as the client has in-house contractor for Structural works. They have been successful in the past to use “tunnel form construction” which enabled them to complete their previous construction in record time. The main feature of the project is the available landscape areas for the project. The idea was to create community space common to all & easily accessible. Vehicular & pedestrian circulations are carefully segregated to achieve the objective. Basement parking one of the most important decision take earlier to avoid massive podium floors as the water table is much lower than normal & construction of basement of widely followed in this part of the world. Thus relieving the land for social activity. The project comprises of approx. 7000 car parking spaces & 3500 apartment units. The project will be developed in phases, hence the project is divided into 16 parcels comprising of Offices, commercial, Residential Development, & Marriott Hospitality development.

Fattah Tower which is already under construction form highlight & is central to the overall development. It will also form the tallest development of the overall scheme The Land is divided into 2 main districts i.e commercial to left of Fattah tower & residential to right. With the lake as the context the Commercial & offices are placed around it. The proposed promenade along the lake gives life to all the retail development on ground level of Commercial. Office towers are placed perpendicular to maximize the view of the gulf from each offices. Residential on the opposite side is complemented with similar scale & geometry with a large central green space & cultural Centre adjacent to it. Main road along the perimeter of property are proposed with numerous pedestrian bridges to maintain access to the Office, Retail & Shopping Mall.
