LEFTOVER SALMON SUNDAY, AUGUST 21 6:30PM - 8:00PM
In 2002, Leftover Salmon signed with Compass Records label and released Live (pronounced “liv”), a live album designed in tribute to the late Mark Vann. Vann urged the band to continue after being diagnosed with melanoma, and since his untimely passing in spring of 2002, they continued to tour relentlessly, playing countless clubs, theatres and appearing at every festival known to mankind, wowing their audiences with their crazy antics and powerful musical mélange. Catch Leftover Salmon as they close out the festival with a bang Sunday evening.

SUNDAY
The sound of Colorado’s legendary Leftover Salmon is unmistakable: fluid, loose-limbed, and simultaneously rootsy and daring. Fusing an unrivaled improvisational fervor to a dizzying combination of bluegrass, Cajun, funk, Southern rock, boogie, Caribbean, Latin, and jazz influences, Leftover Salmon has earned a legion of diehard fans, critical accolades, and a reputation as one of the most exciting, engaging concert experiences to ever hit the road. The origins of Leftover Salmon are as intriguing as their name. The group was born in Boulder, Colorado in 1989, as the result of a merger between Vince Herman (from Cajun/Calypso/ jugband The Salmonheads) and Drew Emmitt and Mark Vann (of progressive bluegrass Left Hand String Band.)
OZOMATLI SATURDAY, AUGUST 20 7:40PM - 9:00PM
Question: How a band known for its vigilant anti-war stance could become a partner with the very Bush administration they have so vocally critiqued in the past? Answer: The band is clear about their position. For Ozomatli it’s all about responding to a global “cry for change” by using music to promote messages of peace and understanding. The Los Angeles based band is a band of the world. In their fourteen years together as celebrated culture mashing band, Ozomatli have gone from being hometown heroes to being named U.S. State Department Cultural Ambassadors. Ozomatli’s music can be described as a notorious urban-Latino-and-beyond collision of hip hop and salsa, dance hall and cumbia, samba and funk, merengue and comparsa, East LA R&B and New Orleans second line, Jamaican ragga and Indian raga. This wild combination of music has long followed a key mantra: it will take you around the world by taking you around L.A. “I’ve always felt that music is the key to every culture, the beginning of an understanding,” says vocalist and trumpet player Asdru Sierra. “It’s a language far more universal than politics.” Join Ozomatli Saturday for a diverse and energy fi lled show.
RAILROAD EARTH SUNDAY, AUGUST 21 4:30PM - 6:00PM
Railroad Earth is a festival band. In early 1998 Railroad Earth was born when musicians Timothy Carbone Andy Goessling, John Skehan, Carey Harmon, Dave Von Dollen came together in New Jersey to play music in informal jam sessions. In 2001 with the help of an agent named Brian Ross, the band members came to the decision to start practicing these songs seriously as a band named Railroad Earth. Less than a year later they busted in to the bluegrass scene with appearances at Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, and High Sierra Music Festival. Not only was Railroad Earth satisfying the ears of Bluegrass fans, but incorporated a blend of folk, Celtic, jazz, and rock to create distinctive jams. This blend of music combined with lyrics of emotional expression creates a sound unlike any other. Since 2001, Railroad Earth has released a handful of albums and has played countless music festivals and shows. With new bassist Andrew Altman Railroad earth is full steam ahead on a mission to create a fresh and unique sound.
