Conclusion Stuart Bailey suggested that Graphic Design, as a discipline, is a ghost-kind of discipline where other different areas come together and overlap. Here underlies the idea that the designer is the one individual who firstly understands the possibilities for this ambiguity, and comprehends this in his practice. One of this “grey areas” that is intertwined with Graphic Design is publishing, which then ‘evolves’ into self-publishing, through the implementation of the self, the designer. This provokes the feeling that self-publishing, as part of that ‘ghost’ that is Graphic Design is an experimental area, a laboratory for Graphic Designers to work with that is rich in the generation of new ideas given the social exchange — from designers to designers — that it involves. Most certainly a lot of questions about the kind of content that is being generated in this laboratory have arisen, but as Tony Brook said when answering my question, both a critical position and a self-promotion effort from a Graphic Design student are valid and equally interesting. Both types of efforts have come from a marginal position — as a response to the real world. The problematic of the matter doesn’t lie in the type of content that is coming from this experimentation but in the collective effort that results in new models of practice. The inherent political position, in marginality, is therefore less relevant as it comes as a natural response and not as a conscious action. What really matters is the collective value, the experimental ground for Graphic Design that self-publishing allows for, and the individuals, that through the (self-)interest for self-expression through publishing, have gathered new models of practise that reflects on the Graphic Design industry, and by consequence, on our daily lives.
