OUR EXPERIENCE
grand solmar resort Cabo San Lucas. Mexico
HKS Architects
Grand Solmar Resort & Spa is an exclusive oceanfront destination set on the Baja Peninsula’s southernmost tip. Charged with creating a singular luxury beach experience, TBG developed a landscape design—and provided full construction documentation and site observation services— that engages visitors and affords new discoveries upon each return visit. Set within close proximity to the Pacific Ocean among narrow beaches enveloped by mountainous terrain, the site presented its own unique challenges, yet the soft contemporary landscape design incorporates locally sourced materials from the adjacent mountains to create a contextually pure sense of place that draws patrons back again and again.
solis hotel doha Doha, Qatar
HKS Architects
Solis Hotel Doha is a bold and contemporary resort destination that will be a signature vacation getaway in Qatar. Set within a bustling urban environment with significant street frontage and many retail outlets, Solis features a landscape design that uniquely responds to the architect’s design concept while integrating the intricate details of Islamic culture. In addition to responding to the architect’s modern design and Qatari culture, the landscape design had to withstand the setting’s hot, arid climate, which resulted in a sophisticated and welcoming design with abundant shade opportunities.
Ningbo crowne plaza resort Ningbo, China
HKS Architects
In collaboration with the project architect, TBG created a dynamic plan for the Ningbo Zixiang Paradise Crowne Plaza Resort based around a unique dragon motif, melding cultural significance, through the ancient Chinese symbol of the earth dragon, with sophisticated contemporary design sensibilities. The plan elegantly responds to the site and represents a dragon coiled upon the southeastern shore of the East China Sea, with the dragon’s head resting atop mountains to the north. The dragon’s body is articulated through a meandering hotel framework, and a pier extending out to the sea represents the dragon’s arm holding a radiant pearl, which will be an event space and high-end restaurant. Additional plan elements include compelling water features, an oceanfront pool and lush plantings.
al ain master plan Al Ain, UAE
Hillwood Residential
The Al Ain International Airport is a significant hub of travelers and goods from around the world in this historically rich city in Abu Dhabi. TBG created a master plan for a 188-hectare community in close proximity to the airport that will provide expatriates and airport personnel with an inviting community and unique sense of place. Plan elements include a variety of villas, townhomes and multifamily residences in distinct neighborhoods all located within a short distance from neighborhood parks. The inclusion of a multipurpose town center and plaza, community centers and an amenity center allows for multiple uses within a walkable environment.
town of aqaba Aqaba, Jordan
Gensler
Located on the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea, Aqaba is a tourist haven and Jordan’s only port city, handling virtually all Jordanian exports. In partnership with Gensler, TBG provided planning and conceptual design services to enhance Aqaba’s robust port and tourist economies. Predicated on historical, cultural and environmental factors, the master plan envisions an inimitable waterfront tourist destination with an intact and articulated Old Town and Shallalah as well as new or improved resort and residential development.
DALLAS OMNI HOTEL Dallas, Texas
Matthews Southwest
A unique design/build project, the Dallas Convention Center Hotel is a 1,001-room facility and key component of the revitalization of downtown Dallas. The project has catalyzed area development and provides greater connectivity to the downtown core. TBG’s design includes outdoor dining terraces, plaza areas, and a rain garden and exterior screen walls at the ground floor/retail level, as well as a multipurpose fourth-floor terrace. The terrace includes a bar, fire pit seating, raised planters and a 1,900-square-foot pool with spa. The hotel achieved LEED-NC Gold certification.
JW MARRIOTT RESORT & SPA San Antonio, Texas
Marriott
As the landscape architect for the LEED certified J W Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa, TBG developed a site program for the 1,000-room hotel that integrates the existing topography while providing for retail and parking. Intricately designed water features cascade throughout the site, materializing as multi-level pools, spas and a lazy river within the amenity area. TBG’s plan incorporates extensive terraces, decks, pavilions and trellises supplemented by a sizeable common lawn, further enhancing the resort’s superior surroundings.
park seventeen Dallas, Texas
Granite Properties
Working with the architect, TBG created an urban landscape design for this mixed-use high-rise complex, which includes 17,000 square feet of fine dining and retail space, a 26-story residential tower and a 19-story office tower with amenity deck. The modern design complements existing architecture in the surrounding neighborhoods and provides tenants dramatic views of downtown Dallas and the much anticipated Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge designed by renowned bridge architect Santiago Calatrava. Park Seventeen is Dallas’ first LEED Gold high-rise office building.
the austonian Austin, Texas
Benchmark Development
At the 56-story residential high-rise, The Austonian, the landscape architecture reflects a compelling progression of spaces with their own distinct sense of place. At the street level, TBG’s design incorporates high-end materials and pedestrian-oriented elements to celebrate the urban setting and establish a superior downtown streetscape environment. A 10th floor green roof terrace reflects a sustainable approach that incorporates AC condensate-harvesting and native plantings to create a memorable Texas backyard experience. These highly detailed spaces achieve an ideal balance of quality, lifestyle and stewardship.
Market Street Thw Woodlands, Texas
Trademark Property Group
TBG employed a small-town Texas aesthetic to generate urban appeal and create a long-absent town center with a sense of history. This mixed-use lifestyle center is a walkable development incorporating activated streetscapes responding to specific periods in Texas history. TBG’s design combines a central park, stylized courtyards, interactive water features and site furnishings to develop points of interest while respecting established development regulations. Now a community hub, Market Street hosts weekly jazz concerts, community festivals and holiday gatherings and received a 2007 Honor Award from the Texas chapter of ASLA.
watters creek Allen, Texas
Trademark Property Group
TBG provided site planning and landscape architectural services for Watters Creek, a 42.7-acre, mixed-use lifestyle development in Allen, Texas. An innovative take on the traditional town center, TBG’s landscape design creates a resort-style atmosphere through the use of embellished streetscapes that foster a walkable shopping and entertainment experience. A number of promenades link various residential, retail, entertainment and office components while an existing natural pond and creek integrate into the site’s open space, resulting in a relaxing public environment for both passive and active use.
SEAHOLM POWER PLANT Austin, Texas
Southwest Strategies
TBG is working with a large team and city officials to plan and design the redevelopment of the historic Seaholm Power Plant and its surrounding site in downtown Austin. The reuse concept incorporates commercial, retail and exhibition space into an existing cultural setting; the plan includes a mix of office space, local retail shops, restaurants, contemporary apartments, Trader Joe’s, outdoor plazas and a large festival lawn. The 7.8-acre site’s festival lawn will accommodate events along Cesar Chavez Street. A ninth-floor amenity deck design offers exceptional views and includes outdoor fitness, a multipurpose pool, fire pit, trellis and a washer pit. Also of note, the team is reusing existing weir structures on the property as cisterns to reclaim water, with a capacity of more than 300,000 gallons, as part of a sustainable development approach.
hunt oil tower Dallas, Texas
Woodbine Development
TBG developed an extraordinary plan for Hunt Consolidated Headquarters that articulates the relationship between architecture and landscape, built and organic, interior and exterior. The design is emphasized by coordinated interior and exterior fountain designs and a seamless integration between the outdoor environs and interior spaces. The choreographed elliptical fountain wrapping the building’s front facade seemingly permeates the tower’s downstairs lobby, while an eighth-floor rooftop garden affords an inimitable space with stunning vistas and an array of native and adaptive plants; drought-tolerant plants were used exclusively and are watered by a highly efficient drip irrigation system.
cityplace Dallas, Texas
Cityplace Company
A TIF district, transit-oriented development and neighborhood in Dallas’ Oak Lawn neighborhood, Cityplace is a popular urban enclave north of downtown Dallas. The neighborhood includes three urban parks, Gateway Plaza, McKinney Junction and Station Square, that serve as an initial extension of West Village, a growing mixed-use development on the Cityplace’s west side. TBG’s designs for these three parks include a stone plaza, custom artwork and preservation of a 28-inch post oak at McKinney Junction; a stone plaza, 40-foot custom art piece and seat walls to screen existing DART infrastructure at Gateway Plaza, the most visible of the parks; and a unique trolley turntable at Station Square that accommodates the use of mono-directional trolleys.

Board of Directors Earl Broussard, FASLA, AICP, LEED AP - President Born and raised on the bayous of Louisiana, Earl Broussard was shoeless until he was 8 and saved his pet dog from the belly of an alligator as a young boy. He also has a lifelong passion for history, storytelling and landscape architecture. His journey has taken him from his beloved Louisiana State University to the halls of Harvard University, to teaching at Texas A&M and LSU, and across the globe as a working professional. He began TBG Partners in 1987, and under Earl’s leadership it has become the premier landscape architecture and planning firm in the Southwest.
Tom Afflerbach, ASLA, LEED AP Nearly 25 years ago, Tom Afflerbach co-founded TBG Partners with Earl Broussard, beginning a journey that would take them from a two-man outfit to a distinguished firm with five Texas offices. But their friendship goes back even further, to their collegiate days when Tom was one of Earl’s first students at Texas A&M in the 1970s. Tom, new to College Station after growing up in Austin, and Earl, just arriving for his first teaching gig after completing his graduate degree in Boston, were both a little out of their element—which made for an ideal fit that would grow from a friendship to a small business to a distinguished corporation, and the rest, as they say, is history. Bill Odle, ASLA Raised in rural Oklahoma, in a town of several hundred residents, Bill Odle developed an early love of nature and a business savvy that transformed into a career in landscape architecture. He joined TBG in Austin in 1995, working there for five years before heading to the Bayou City. Bill became managing principal of TBG’s Houston office in 2001, completing a 180 degree transition from small town to a city with more than 2 million people. Bill cherishes spending time with his wife and three children as well as improving his community, Sienna Plantation, as president of its Community Services Foundation. He also sits on the Houston ULI District Council executive committee and the Scenic Houston streetscape committee. Brian Ott, ASLA, LEED AP An experienced team leader, Brian has been an integral member of the Austin office for more than 19 years. As a LEED Accredited Professional, Brian employs proven and innovative techniques to create sustainable landscapes. Brian works on a broad range of project types including healthcare, mixed-use and civic projects and promotes sustainable building education among team members by incorporating sustainable approaches into each project.
Jim Manskey, ASLA Inspired by travel and the exceptional design he encounters, Jim Manskey cherishes family, outdoor recreation and exploring new locales, which inform his design sensibilities. His annual ski trips, in particular, enlighten his perspective on designing extraordinary resort destinations. A principal in TBG’s Dallas office, Jim provides invaluable leadership on a variety of complex projects, particularly in the hospitality, urban design and community sectors. He guides his teams through the creation of sophisticated environments that consistently provide a sense of place, human scale and varieties of interest.
Trent Rush, ASLA When he’s not in his auto garage-inspired office or the design studio, there’s a good chance you’ll see Trent Rush cruising with the top down in his ’67 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme convertible, Geraldine. He grew up working on muscle cars in Indiana and his love of their graceful forms, roaring exhausts and innate coolness remains as strong as ever. As the leader of TBG’s higher education practice line, Trent guides his teams through the creation of inviting and distinctive campus spaces that help make the collegiate experience memorable. He serves as a principal in TBG’s Austin office and has been with the firm since 1997.
