Editor’s Note
Dear friends, Our second annual Gallery Book is here! I am so happy to share the heart of this book with you – my favorite 50 photos from the year. You can find the “Best of 2014” gallery on page 8. 2014 brought weddings and photo shoots in Mexico, Virginia, California, North Carolina, Chicago – and of course all over the great state of Texas. THANK YOU to my warm, funny, loving clients. I am filled with gratitude that I get work with such big-hearted brides and grooms. I am so blessed.
In June I was thrilled to be ranked #5 on Bridebox’s list of Top 20 Wedding Photographer’s in Texas -- woohoo! Last year also brought in 7 new Fearless Photographer Awards. Speaking of Fearless, another highlight of the year was attending my first Fearless Photographers conference in Arizona in November. I love being a part of this group/family. Lastly, I was invited to present “Everything You Need to Know About the Modern Indian Wedding” to NACE (National Association for Catering and Events) chapters in Houston and in Dallas. It was such an honor to share my experiences with this elite group. How did it get to be January so quickly? Once again we find ourselves at the beginning. Without further ado, I’d like to present my favorite photos from 2014.
WISHING YOU LOVE AND LIGHT IN 2015,
Uma

About
UMA was named one of the Top 30 Rising Stars of Wedding
Photography by Rangefinder Magazine and has been a Pulitzer Prize finalist in Breaking News Photography. Long before she was capturing the emotions of brides and grooms with her camera, Uma was an award-winning photojournalist whose assignments took her to Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka and Haiti. Growing up in Virginia, Uma studied painting – her first love – during summers at the Corcoran School of Art. After graduating from Stanford with honors in Biology, Uma turned down a spot in a neuroscience PhD program (sorry Mom and Dad!) to pursue her passion. She opted to study photojournalism at the School of Visual Communication at Ohio University – earning a Masters degree and a lifetime of inspiration. In 2009 she was invited to join the faculty at OU to take over the photojournalism classes taught by Pete Souza, who was tapped to be the chief White House photographer. Uma received a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to spend a year creating a photo-documentary of rituals on the colorful island nation of Mauritius. Her
work was also part of the Palm Beach Post’s hurricane coverage portfolio that was one of three finalists for a Pulitzer Prize in Breaking News Photography in 2005. Uma has also scaled the globe to photograph Burmese refugees on the Thailand border, and Sri Lankan fishing villages struck by the 2005 tsunami. She used to do silly things like hitch-hike with her surfboard through the Hawaiian Islands (sorry Mom and Dad!) and dive with sharks in Australia. But these days she’s traded globe-trotting and journalism for weddings and whimsy. Uma brings her love of capturing light and emotion to wedding photography. She loves using her creativity to document people on one of the most joyous days of their life.
