Celebrated wine experts from across the region came together to judge entries from Sierra Foothill wineries, including selections from Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Mariposa, Nevada, Placer, and Tuolumne Counties. Gold and Silver award winners will be sampled by the public at the Foothill Wine Festival on November 20. The first annual event, headed by Mike Owen—president and CEO of Crystal Basin Cellars—and sponsored by the Greater Folsom Partnership, is designed to share locally created wines with residents in the Greater Sacramento area. In honor of the Harris Center’s 10th anniversary and to show appreciation for their members’ generous support, an elegant four-course dinner by Taste A Go-Go was held. Guests—including FLC Youth Chamber Orchestra sponsor Bob and Star Pepper; the building’s namesake Brice and Barbara Harris; and major donor Dr. Gwynn Akin—also enjoyed award-winning Di Arie wine and music by the Folsom Lake College Youth Chamber Orchestra presented by the Robert S. & Star Pepper Foundation.

Chabad Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Placer County, Granite Bay

The ceremonial groundbreaking for the future home of the Chabad House JCC of Placer County— which was well attended by the community, Sacramento area rabbis, and dignitaries—featured talks by a community family and student at Chabad House’s Sacramento Jewish Academy, a performance by the Sacramento Jewish Academy band, and an address by Rabbi Yossi Korik.
