A LETTER FROM THE TEAM It’s safe to say that we are happy to bid adieu to the bitter days of puffy parkas, mukluks, chunky knits, and the everlasting Polar Vortex. Let’s welcome the longer, brighter spring days with open arms. Of course, with a new season comes new trends to embrace and the Style-Architects team can’t wait to share our take on them with you. After all, it’s what we know {and love} best! Our collaborative team of lifestyle experts showcase swoon-worthy trends through handpicked local goods from our favorite Minnesota stores in the Spring 2014 Trend Report. We also offer bits and tips for sprucing up your space as well as hosting a summer paella-themed party. Here’s to a season filled with plenty of sunshine, outdoor entertaining, and a spring in your step!

ALLISON + BRETT
A shared passion for their hometown of Minneapolis and its art and music scene made the Minneapolis Institute of Arts the logical choice for Allison Rufsvold + Brett Cadogen’s wedding. Their need to stray from the predictable didn’t stop with the venue when they selected Roster McCabe to provide the lively guest entertainment. Allison’s structured Vera Wang gown and love of ghost chairs added additional artistic elements to the day. Spring 2014 18

Hosting an outdoor dinner party is the perfect way to celebrate on warm summer nights. Step outside the traditional entertaining box this year by throwing a Spanish-inspired Paella party complete with tapas, sangria, and a vibrant setting sure to impress your guests! Choose the right palette Shy away from the expected explosion of reds, turquoises, and oranges. We suggest using a muted, pastel palette mixed with vibrant florals that will give your table a jolt of spring freshness.
Break the rules of matching When done right, you can still achieve a cohesive look with mismatched décor. At the table, use an eclectic mix of dining room chairs with different colored woods, shapes and textures. You can mix things up on the table as well with varying colored and textured plates, glasses, and vases. Don’t forget that furniture, servingware and decor can be rented so you aren’t limited to items you already own.
Entertain your guests through interactive stations Impress your guests by renting a 36” diameter paella pan and burner set-up, ready to go from The Kitchen Window. Guests will enjoy the live demonstration as they sip their sangria from a build-your-own sangria bar.
Set the mood Start with swanky Spanish tunes from the Gipsy Kings to energize your guests and then wind down the evening with Andres Segovia’s lyrical classical guitar. Your guests will be sure to stay and socialize long after the sun goes down, so make them comfortable with comfy lounge furniture with a variety of pillows, again, all of which can be rented. 23 Style-Architects

Transforming your space: A spring refresh Along with longer, brighter days and fresh blooms, spring also brings a plethora of new home décor trends. This season, our team is swooning over clean, modern-meets-rustic spaces that we are seeing all over our favorite home blogs and magazines. Here are three ways to nail down this sleek and organic look in your very own space.
1
Keep it Neutral. Brighten up your space with warm neutrals and earth tones. Balancing out your décor with natural palettes will add softness to any room as well as make it appear larger.
2
Organic elements. Add a touch of Mother Nature to your home by taking a woodsy approach to modern design. Embrace minimalism by adding in small succulents or air plants or go all out with a tall fiddle fig tree. For you not-so-greenthumbed, you can achieve this by incorporating other natural elements such as a wooden coffee table or containers filled with sand and feathers.
3
Newer Isn’t Always Better. Add some vintage charm to your home this spring with dreamy, nostalgic décor elements. We suggest hitting up your favorite vintage shops. Timeless antiques are great for adding some personality and sentiment to your home.
