TATTED IN THE NAME OF LOVE
Stars who have taken the tattoo plunge in honor of the one they love
By Riesa Pascal
Remember way back in the olden days when a piece of sentimental jewelry was the ultimate profession of love for your significant other? Well these days, many couples are going for something a little more permanent and celebrities are not excluded. We’ve all seen celebs get tatted up in honor of the one they are dating or married to, but how often does that type of commitment go south? Read on to see which stars have expressed their love with tattoos—and who probably wishes they could take back their tattoo decisions.
Jennifer Lopez
It’s only fitting that we kick it off with Jennifer Lopez, who revealed a brand new tattoo just last month on Valentine’s Day. In celebration of her husband, Ben Affleck, J.Lo took to Instagram with a photo showing off her freshly inked torso. She spoke of the tattoo in her caption explaining that the design was an infinity symbol — representing “commitment” — with an arrow through it. Another photo in her Valentine’s Day tribute showed that Ben has a coordinating tattoo featuring a pair of crossed arrows and their respective initials, J and B.
Pete Davidson
Most would learn quickly from the mistake of getting a tribute tattoo only to break up with that person, but Pete Davidson is a serial offender with nearly 20 tattoos from previous relationships. The first instance came during his twoand-a-half-year relationship with Cazzie David in which he got a self-portrait David drew as a child, her name, and her favorite emoji all tattooed on him. Even though they were only together for a total of five months, Ariana Grande has the most tattoos dedicated to her with a grand total of 10 including her initials, her last name, the Dangerous Woman bunny mask, a portrait of the pig they adopted together, their hands intertwined, the word “always” in her handwriting and multiple matching tattoos. At the height of his romance with Kim Kardashian, Davidson got three tribute tattoos including the words “Jasmine and Aladdin” in honor of their first kiss, the initials of her children, and the words “my girl is a lawyer.” It goes without saying that Davidson is also a big fan of coverup tattoos!
Chrissy Teigen
Seeing as how Chrissy Teigen recently welcomed a third child to their growing family, she and John may need to make an update to the matching tattoos they debuted back in April 2019. The “All of Me” crooner and his wife both tatted the other’s name, along with the names of their oldest two children, Luna and Miles. Teigen joked about the new ink in a light hearted Instagram post writing “Hey guys, please don’t talk to us unless you have tattoos. We are a cool tattoo family now and we only want to talk to other tattoo families (sorry if this seems harsh).”
Megan Fox
One of the biggest celebrity stories last month was the rumored break up of Megan Fox and her fiancé Machine Gun Kelly. Fox took to Instagram over Super Bowl weekend and strongly hinted they were done with a series of photos captioned, “You can taste the dishonesty it’s all over your breath.” This is a far cry from November 2020 when eagle-eyed fans noticed Fox had a new tattoo on the red carpet of the American Music Awards. The obvious tribute to Kelly said “el pistolero,” which translates to “the gunman.”
Nick Cannon
If you’re considering getting an ink tribute of your significant other and these stories have yet to put you off the idea, hopefully this next example will at least encourage you to think about the size of the tat you get and where. Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey were still married when he got a very large tattoo of Carey’s name across his upper back. Ultimately, the marriage didn’t work out and before the ink on the divorce papers was dry, Nick was getting new ink of a large crucifix to cover-up the embarrassing tribute.
Angelina Jolie
Though Angelina Jolie has her fair share of tattoos, did you know that there is one specifically dedicated to her exhusband? A series of coordinates on Jolie’s arm match the various locations of where Brad Pitt and their respective children were born. In spite of their messy and highly-publicized split back in 2016, Jolie has yet to get the Pitt tribute ink covered.
Heidi Klum
After seven years of marriage and four children, Heidi Klum’s split from Seal in 2012 was a shock to many. In their happier days, Klum tattooed Seal’s name on her right forearm to celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary. After their divorce, Heidi frequently underwent expensive laser treatments to begin the time-consuming process of having the “permanent” declaration of love removed.
Travis Barker
It goes without saying that Travis Barker is a man who loves tattoos! The Blink-182 drummer is quite literally covered in ink from head to toe so I, for one, found it very impressive that he even found room on his “canvas” for a new tat in honor of his wife Kourtney Kardashian. Earlier this year, Barker added a stunning tattoo of Kardashian’s smoky eyes to his upper thigh in a hyper-realistic style, with subtle shading and every last eyelash defined.
