SO WHAT DO I DO NOW?
1.
SET UP YOUR BU EMAIL ACCOUNT.
You should have the details about your account in your BU welcome letter in this pack. Your address will probably be in the format ‘i1234567@bournemouth.ac.uk’ and you’ll need it all working to be able to order on subu.org.uk
2.
OPEN YOUR SUBU.ORG.UK ACCOUNT
Click the ‘sign-in’ box at top of the page and use the ‘log in with University account’ option, then visit subu.org.uk/arrivals. Here you can find out all about your Students’ Union and arrivals fortnight
3.
ORDER YOUR STUFF!
Mum/Dad might help here... Firstly get your wristband package, hoodies, etc ordered. Once you have received a confirmation of your order then your items will be ready to collect on arrival at your Halls Welcome desk
4.
ORDER YOUR NUS EXTRA CARD
NUS Extra is your essential student discount card which can also be used online. You will make enough savings to cover it’s cost within a couple of weeks! Order the 3 year option for maximum value, the big discounts are listed on the advert in this guide, but there’s up to 150 discounts available. You need to place your order at nus.org.uk (if you didn’t choose a gold pack)
5.
GET EVEN MORE EXCITED, YOU’RE COMING TO BOURNEMOUTH UNI!
ARRIVALS SOCIAL MEDIA Make sure you follow the ‘real ’ thing Beware, there are plenty of other facebook pages out there, none of whom are anything to do with BU (even if they claim to be ‘official’). Stick to those listed here for the genuine article.
WELCOME 2014
EVENT PACK FAQs I DON’T ARRIVE AT BU UNTIL AFTER ARRIVALS WEEKEND (13/14 SEPT)? You can still collect your event packs from the Welcome Desk on Talbot Campus. You’ll miss the BIG Welcome Party!
WHAT ARE THE WRISTBANDS ALL ABOUT? They are a quick and easy way of ensuring you get the best deal during arrivals fortnight – as they identify you as a new student. The fabric festival style band included in the Gold Events Pack is a free pass to all the events, includes an NUS extra card and a BU14 T shirt. The wristbands are all colour coded to help you identify other students studying in your school or faculty – an easy way to break the ice in the queue for Starbucks.
WHY IS THE ‘ONE BIG BOURNEMOUTH PARTY’ BEING HELD AT THE BOURNEMOUTH INTERNATIONAL CENTRE? Because it’s (probably) big enough to get all of you in, the Students’ Union venue ‘The Old Fire Station’ simply does not have the space on that first night out!
WILL THERE BE BIG QUEUES?
WHAT ARE THE T-SHIRTS ALL ABOUT?
It will certainly be busy but we always prioritise wristband-wearers through arrivals fortnight and you also get priority entry for the first hour each night. Just show your wristband and make sure you have some +18 age ID to hand (e.g ‘PASS’ approved ID card, passport, driving licence). The best way to avoid queuing is to come 15 minutes earlier than you think, because, trust us, you all think along similar lines.
These are a one off set of T shirts just for this year’s new students. Treasure them, write on them if you want – a memento to remember your Arrivals experience. The T shirts are colour coded according to the residence that you live in and are the key to coming to the T-shirt parties at The Old Fire Station.
WHAT IS AN NUS EXTRA CARD? It’s the best student discount card in the UK with over 150 partners including Spotify, Amazon, Co-op supermarket and more. If you don’t order a Gold events pack (which has NUS Extra included) then you can order NUS Extra cards individually from www.nus.org.uk. They’re only £12 each and will pay for themselves within a few weeks.
WHO CAN I CONTACTIF I HAVE ANY QUERIES ABOUT ARRIVALS? Yes of course. Facebook us: /sububournemouth, Tweet us: @sububournemouth, email: subu@ bournemouth.ac.uk or telephone SUBU:01202965765 or askBU: 01202 969696

I’M ON A TIGHT BUDGET, WHAT ABOUT MY EVENT PACK? If you’re on a real budget then there is a basic option ‘BRONZE EVENT PACK’ which gets you a silicone band with some selected discounts, plus iSUBU rewards registration
I WANT TO GO TO OLD FIRE STATION EVENTS BUT DON’T HAVE A FABRIC FESTIVAL BAND?
WHAT IS ISUBU REWARDS? A brand new rewards scheme the Students’ Union have launched – it will be the only way to get discounts at our bars, events and shops and is only available to students at BU. It’s totally free and ready for you - download the app or order a card and away you go. You can manage your profile, track your status, see the rewards you have earned, cash in SUBU promotions, buy stuff in advance, tell us what you think and much more.
HOW DO I ORDER ADVANCE TICKETS FOR EVENTS DURING THE REST OF TERM?
No Problem. You will be able to buy tickets at the door on the night with a silicone wristband, subject to space. We always prioritise arrivals wristband wearers above 2nd to 4th years (until Sun 28 Sept).
You can order tickets online via www. oldfirestation.co.uk or using your iSUBU app. Most tickets are also available from Talbot Campus Student Shop and we have teams going into the Halls of residents for some events.
I JUST WANT TO ORDER THE FABRIC FESTIVAL BAND?
ARE THERE ANY JOBS AVAILABLE AT SUBU?
Please order a Gold Arrival Pack and you will receive a fabric band.
Yes! In our shops, Dylan’s Bar and the Loft and The Old Fire Station. Check out the website for more:

FIRST THINGS FIRST…
ESSENTIAL COURSE AND ACCOMMODATION SESS This Events Guide includes a huge range of exciting activities for you to enjoy. As well as all the great social and extra-curricular events that you can choose from, there are also some other really important sessions that you absolutely MUST attend:
School/course induction activities: Your course team have a great induction planned for you, including a variety of lectures and other activities, during the first two weeks (15 – 26 September*).
Course enrolment session: This is when you will officially become a BU student, get your student ID card (also Library and printing card), timetable and other important information about your course.
You’ll have plenty of free time to get involved with sports, volunteering, social activities and party nights, but you must prioritise any course-related activities!
See your Welcome letter and page 5 of your BU Welcome Guide for more details. If you have any questions about your enrolment or course induction activities, please contact askBU (+44 (0)1202 969696 or askBU@bournemouth.ac.uk).
WELCOME 2014
Some course induction events might take place earlier than your enrolment session. Your welcome letter will give you details of the first event you need to attend.
* If you will be studying in the School of Health and Social Care, your course enrolment and induction week begins on Monday 22nd September, so you won’t have any official school induction events until then. You’re still really welcome to join in with all the social events that take place from Monday 15th September if you want to though!
SIONS Accommodation Induction: Every student living in BU accommodation (halls of residence or Unilet) must attend an Accommodation Induction session. When you collect your keys, you’ll get information about where and when you should attend. If necessary, you can choose to attend a different session. The full list is below: ‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑‑

Compete Competitive sport
Be part of a BU team and play against other BU students. You can get involved by participating or by volunteering to help organise the different sports.
Varsity sport

Varsity matches take place on Wednesday afternoons with individual sports running at various times throughout the year.
