IDEAS FOR A FUTURE BADIA “BADIA CONNECTED” ROUTE April 27th 2018, starting at Pl. Major 15:00 - 17:00h.


Can you imagine how Badia could be in a few years? Can you imagine being able to improve it? All the people who have participated in this project are convinced of this and we would like to invite you to take a walk to share the different ideas we have had and the proposals that we have built together to improve our municipality. Our trip will start with the visit to a public space between housing buildings (1), where we can let the imagination fly to bring life to those corners that are so poorly used nowadays and now a community garden experience. Afterwards, we will see how citizens can reclaim the streets for their enjoyment, stimulating the creation of new commercial axis instead of using these big areas as parking lots (2). Near the MolĂ­ building (3) we will stop to see how close a future train station could be, and the way it could help to improve the metropolitan connexions. Next, we will head to the top to imagine new connections with other towns through the C-58, both for vehicles and pedestrians (4). This trip will finish with the discovery of our vegetable heritage (5), to let our senses enjoy themselves. We hope you enjoy your trip!

INTERNAL SPACES - COMMUNITY GARDENS Here we find a recovered public space, carried out by the neighbors association and the City Hall (marked by the fence). There are many wasted spaces like this in Badia, which can change the urban landscape when plantations are carried out and are given maintenance. We can talk about diversifying the uses of these spaces and proposing new activities to give them life. How could we encourage the recovery of abandoned spaces?

STREETS AS CIVIC AXIS Badia has a first-order problem with mobility. A large percentage of resident people work or study abroad and the public transport offer is insuficient, which makes the population dependent on the car. As there are no underground parking areas, the space used to park in the public space is huge. What do you think could be done with all the space dedicated to car parks? Would you be prepared to park further away from home so you can have a higher quality public space?

METROPOLITAN CONNEXION WITH CERDANYOLA AND BARBERÀ The possible location of the AVE station near the Baricentro mall generates the need to communicate Badia with this area, both for pedestrians and cyclists as well as for public transport vials. This would make Badia have a new “door”, a new facade and access road and exit from the city ... How could we use abandoned Antonio Machado buildings to boost this operation? How could communication with Barberà and Cerdanyola be improved with this project?

CONNEXION TO C-58 MOTORWAY At this point a new Urbanity Facility could be created, with a new access to Badia (road over the C-58) and a new Tram / Bus Express, with new buildings and public spaces. This would have an impact on the mobility structure, the territorial integration and the possible solutions for the affections on the noise level. Is the introduction of such a powerful infrastructure sufficient? Or should it be accompanied by public transport and a program that structures and strengthens this connection?

SHOWCASE HERITAGE TREES Badia has a very important plant heritage: we have about 4,000 trees, many green areas, community gardens and wild plants. Here we find a fan of native trees, witnesses of what were the forests prior to the creation of the Bay, with ducklings, holm oaks, pines and oaks. And an important fauna, especially of various birds. Do you think that there are enough green spaces and trees in Badia? Do you think it would be interesting to install tree signals, for example?

BADIA DEL VALLÈS ACTION PLAN The Action Plan has developed strategies for improving Badia del Vallès related to the management of its public space. The Central Debate Group, made up of neighbors, members of the City Council and the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, made a diagnosis of the situation to identify challenges from which establish the following strategies:

A. CONNECTIVITY AND RELATIONSHIP WITH THE REGION - New connections N-S Barberà- Badia- Autònoma with a new bridge over the C-58. - Eliminate the current road to Cerdanyola del Vallès. - New connection E-W Sabadell - Barberà - Cerdanyola with a bridge over the AP-7. - New tram line Sabadell- Barberà- Badia - Autònoma - TGV- Sant Cugat. - New pedestrian connection N-S Barberà train station - Joan Oliver park - Sec River with a new underpass underneath the C-58. - New commercial structure Av. Burgos - Sec River - IKEA. - New FFGG station and a new footbridge next to IKEA. - Metropolitan path along the Sec River. - Improveme the protection against noise pollution of C-58 and AP-7

B. SHOWCASING THE CULTURAL AND NATURE HERITAGE - Showcase the heritage trees - botanical route. - Showcase the original farmhouse remaining. - Place value on the water resource. - Showcase and boost the urban art heritage. - Showcase the community gardens. - Healthy route along the Sec river.


C. INTENSIFY AND PROGRAMMIING THE USE OF PUBLIC SPACE - Programming the functional area for the inter-municipal axis. - Programming the functional area for the commercial axis. - Programming the functional area for the pedestrian axle. - Programming the functional area for the natural axis. - Programming the internal public spaces. - Erradicate the architectural barriers of public spaces. - Facilitate the ground fllor modification to foster the integration with the public space. - Inclusive playgrounds. - Urban agriculture and fruit trees planting. - Public spaces linked with public facilities. - Mediation commitee. - Programs to increase citizenship and social community. - Recover the space now used as orchards. - Improve the waste collection.

D. STRUCTURE OF MOBILITY - Sequentially redo the internal distribution street surface and pavement. - Sequentially redo the shared space streets. - New pedestrian connection E-W Sec river. Porto - Oviedo street - Illes Balears park. - Improve pedestrian connection E-W Sec river- Bètica street - Cornisa Bètica park - C-58 park. - Programme to promote a more efficient use of private mobility (car-sharing, co-ownership) - Implement blue and/or green parking spaces through the municiaplity. - Construction of new parking lots near the city entrance, with spaces for residents. - Programme to promote the bicycle (parking spaces, co-ownership, bike-sharing, etc.) - Rationalization and improvement of the public transport network.


IMAGINA BADIA is an URBACT project, an initiative of the European Union to devise innovative and sustainable solutions to the economic, social and environmental challenges of European cities. The result of this project is the “Local Action Plan of Badia del Vallès”, a document that proposes strategies and actions to be developed in the coming years to transform the municipality and improve the quality of life of all its inhabitants. This document, which includes the proposals made, has been prepared for the discovery routes carried out on the festive day of April 27, 2018, with the presence of technicians from the cities participating in the URBACT program.
