„Dear S&C-ers, My name is Alin Todirică and as Vice President of Seminars&Conferences ELSA Romania 2014/2015 I have the pleasure to present to you our 3rd edition of the S&C Newsletter. Alexandra-Iuliana Ungureanu Vice President of Seminars&Conferences ELSA Braşov 2014/2015 “Being a Seminars & Conferences Vice President was less of a challenge and more of a passion. I have been an ELSA member since the first year of Law School and it made me feel different from the other law students, it made me feel special. The moments when you plan and organize an event, when you announce the event’s “big day” and when you feel accomplished at the end of a successful event, these are the moments that make me proud of choosing this path, proud of choosing ELSA. The fact that I know the skills of every member of my department, that I’m surrounded by friends in everything I do, this environment has become a second home for me, the ELSA Family.”

Study Visit ELSA Braşov - ELSA Halle The first event organized was an international one, the Study Visit ELSA Braşov – ELSA Halle. From November 17th 2014 until November 23rd 2014, nine Germans were having lots of surprises in Romania. As part of the Academic Program, we visited the University of Transilvania’s Law School, participated in one of our interesting classes, visited the Court of Appeal, the Court House and took part in various workshops. As for the Social Program, they visited the most important tourist attractions, they went sightseeing in the city and experienced the nightlife in Brasov. The ultimate surprise was the participation at the National Council Meeting where they learned new things and made new friends.

Women in Legal Carreers STEP department organized on March 10th, 2015 and we had as speakers three successful women in the legal domain: Oana Şaramet (University Lecturer, Faculty of Law, University of Transilvania), Cornelia Cor (Territorial Office expert of the Ombudsman in Brasov, Romania) and Nicoleta Aurelia Korodi-Popa (Notary Public in Brasov, Romania).

This year, the generic subject of the Internationl Focus Programme was “ Media Law” and we organized an event about human rights in the online environment on March 3rd, 2015. Being a member of Seminars & Conferences has made me feel different from other law students, because aside from learning and reading for classes, I also organize events on law-related subjects or just participate and practice what I’ve learnt at school and socialize with beautiful and smart people. The best feeling is when you organize an event with your team, working and trying to do your best and in the end you see that the event was a succes. ELSA Brașov is a big family with law students that combine creativity, fun and knowledge. That’s why I’m proud I’m one of them!”

Ramona Bărbulescu Seminars&Conferences Newsletter Coordinator Member of Seminars&Conferences ELSA Bucharest 2014/2015 “My name is Ramona Bărbulescu and I have been a part of S&C family (and ELSA family) for about 6 months. During this time I realized what I would have lost if I had not become an ELSA member: professionalism, friendship, fun, confidence. I really like to think that S&C defines me as it covers a wide range of events, so I always learn something new with every event, every OC; I exercise certain skills (be it communication, negotiation or management abilities). S&C makes me work hard, but it rewards me tenfold. Here I have found beautiful people and I have realized that together we can create beautiful things, things that will remain in ELSA’s history and can serve as a model for coming generations. However, probably the most important thing is that ELSA gives me the chance to discover what I am really capable of, it motivates me and gives me energy. ELSA was, undoubtedly, the best choice since the beginning of university, as I feel that, surrounded by beautiful people, positive energy and desire for involvement I can develop both personally and professionally.”

Vice President of Seminars&Conferences ELSA Cluj-Napoca 2014/2015 “Anytime somebody asks me about University life, the part I talk most dearly about is ELSA. I am a two years member, in present Vice President Seminars & Conferences ELSA Cluj-Napoca, the department closest to my heart, the one I consider family. Working this time as a volunteer in this association opened numerous paths and taught me how to talk freely, how to organize time and schedule, how to communicate and work with people, but most important, it gave me life-time friends. The satisfaction received is even more powerful due to the fact that the people I care about are the ones with whom, together, we organize beautiful events that become more visible and have a more powerful impact upon other students with each event. And there is no other bigger satisfaction for a Vice President than to see that the work you spent plenty of hours on is appreciated and is useful for others.”

Summer School on WTO Law 2014 Regarding the social programme, the participants were greeted with a Gala opening of the Summer School. During the next days, participants attended various theme parties: an international evening where they had the opportunity to present a specific object from their own country, a treasure hunt conducted over a large area of the city of Cluj-Napoca and a closing Gala that put an end to this successful edition. The Summer Law School organized by ELSA Cluj-Napoca, hosted between 3rd - 10th of August 2014, gathered twenty-five participants from all over the world, who spent a week in a pleasant environment.

Finally, this event would not have been possible without the presence of thirty dedicated ELSA Cluj-Napoca members, who were present in each moment along the participants and ensured that the event worked out perfectly.

In light of the academic programme, we had the pleasure to guest speakers such as Mr. Roberto Rios from Poland (who came with his family because of the wonderful experience he had in the first edition), Ms. Weiwei Zhang from China and Mr. Jan Bohanes from Czech Republic.

This wonderful project, belonging to the Seminars&Conferences Department, has trained, in fact, all the departments of ELSA ClujNapoca. Every participant of this edition had a great time, most of them telling us: “I would come back at any time for the third edition of this Summer Law School”.

These extraordinary teachers have captured the interest of all participants, according to the feedback they have given us. After a total of thirty hours of training aimed on the topic “World Trade Organization” (WTO), the students were given a test. The top three finishers won scholarships to IELPO.

To sum up, the main purpose of this project was to promote educational excellence by preparing participants in the field of world trade, from both social and economic points of view, but in the end it proved to be a unique experience for all of us, out of which beautiful friendships and memories were gained.

Law.

The “Lawyers After Hours” event had as its main objective to lay down the basis of a discussion on juridical themes “professional versus student”, this time in an informal environment. Students had the opportunity to ask questions regarding their professions, as well as their work field. Discussions were held on some famous test cases or on various theoretical aspects less understood by students. There was a vast array of themes approached during this event. These were chosen as a result of the polls the organizers realized, namely: Civil Law, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Cybercrime, Business Law, Family

We believe that, through the means of this event, we boosted students’ interest in the field of Law and we opened up new perspectives on the juridical professions they are about to elect in the close future.

“Law and Morality” Seminar

ELSA Cluj-Napoca, through the Seminars&Conferences Department, in collaboration with OSM, organized the 7th edition of the “Law and Morality” Seminar, between the 26th - 27th of March. As subthemes of this event there were debated human trafficking and organ trafficking. By holding this event, the Seminars&Conferences Department intended to raise public awareness towards subjects of general interest and to build among students (and not only) a realistic opinion on trafficking people and organs. It was desired for these subjects to be discussed both from a legal and a medical perspective, so that it would possible to reveal the main problems going on in

Romania as well as to come up with viable solutions to them. We believe that educating and informing play a crucial role when it comes to real development. Also, involving young people in such events and projects can complete and ascribe value to strategies of preventing phenomena related to human trafficking and organ trafficking.

Around 200 people participating at this seminar had the chance to pose questions to some experts in the field, as follows: DIICOT prosecutor Daciana Deritei, ANITP representative Dr. Augusta Bora, lawyer and University teacher Paul Popovici and Dr. Dan Adrian Luscalov.

Also, this organization, gave me the opportunity to develop my skills to work in team and to socialize with students who have the same interests as me. The organizing committee did not neglect the promotion of the event either as many newspapers and local televisions wrote articles about the seminar. After reading the feedbacks from the participants, we can say the first national seminar of ELSA Constanta was a great one.

Media and the Right of Reply - Legal Cafe The right of rectification means the right of a person to ask the media to publish the correct version of the facts presented. Reply or correction is a simplified way of protecting the interests, involving less effort and less costs. Also, their effects are preferable to the judicial process.

My option was really simple, considering that I had and still have the opportunity to work among side amazing people, who share my passion for volunteering activities, into a perfect environment for personal and professional development. Each day of my mandate was special, because there is nothing more suitable for a student during college than doing what he loves and doing it with passion. ELSA gave me the opportunity to coordinate an entire department of amazing people and together we organized beautiful events. Legal Café - Career Vision ELSA Iaşi put together a Legal Café on the 11th, 12th and 13th of December 2014. The Legal Café is one of the events under the brand of ELSA Iasi, being defined by innovation and flexibility. Through this project the organizers’ goal was to inform students on delicate matters in the judiciary system, in a friendly environment. It had aimed to clear the difficulties when it comes to direct interaction with a practitioner. Therefore, the informal environment provided the students the opportunity to express their points of view and their fears about the first years of activity.

Also, it was encouraged the diversity of opinions about solutions that should be found and applied for the numerous holes in our system to be removed. This event lasted three days, the beginning being represented by trades that were linked to each profession. Also, in the final stage of this event we had organized a workshop in which students could engage with law school graduates, former ELSA members that shared their own professional experience. The theme was not strict, each participant being able to express their interests in receiving answer regarding any other matter connected to the judiciary domain according to the training and experience of our guests. The goal was not to organize a meeting where the essence of the event would be lost. So, the target was to select a small group of students interested in such an event and willing to express their points of view or doubts from the judiciary sphere. The number of students was set to 30-40 per day.

The main theme was represented by aspects concerning main lines in their careers, thus wanting to capture the admission in the profession, controversies and difficulties, the relevance of practicing during studies, specific skills of the profession, the contrast of ages in the professional environment, the challenges of professing in the law system, surpassing obstacles in professional evolution.

Even though the venue was a coffee shop, that did not mean the competence and professionalism was not respected. Also, the discussion would be held at a high level of pertinence. The purpose of the project was to enrich the information and knowledge of the participants regarding the approached theme whilst still focusing on applying the theoretic information in practical situations and creating a clear image on the Romanian judicial system.

The Criminal’s Profile: Discernment or Diseases The criminal’s profile: discernment or diseases took place on the 12th and 13th of November 2014, and it was organized by Baraniuc DianaMaria and Mocanu Sergiu-Florin. The project’s goal was to reveal to the students the truth about people who took justice into their own hands or committed crimes. With the support of specialized speakers in the area we planned to find out if they did those things in a conscious way or because of a mental illness that affected their judgment. Through the approached things of the two days of the project we proposed to offer a clearer vision

over this matter. In the first day, we approached a psychological manner in presenting the theme “Inside the criminal’s mind” and in the second day we presented the theme “ The effects of condemnation” from a legal stand point.

Alina Bărbuş Vice President of Seminars&Conferences ELSA Oradea 2014/2015 “ELSA... Emotion, Learning, Success, Ambition I remember the first day of college, when I heard about ELSA for the first time. I was glad to discover that there is an association to help me develop professionally. That was true, but ELSA has done more than that. Then I met SV (Study-visit) and ICN (National Council Meeting). They showed me that ELSA is a whole family, where we managed to make unexpected friends, where I met law students from other cities of the country and from Europe. After that came other events, where I had the opportunity to meet leading lawyers in Oradea. Then there are the parties, because law students are also allowed to have fun. My adventure in the Seminars&Conferences department was not what I expected at first, but it turned out to be everything I wanted in ELSA. This department gives you the opportunity to see what organization and promptness in the true sense of the word means, and at the end of the day to realize that nothing compares to the happiness of a successful event. From my point of view, you are a useless law student if you're not part of this family, called ELSA. Go through college like the wind among the leaves.”

The event took place on March 5th 2015, in Oradea Shopping City, a big commercial center of Oradea, in the famous Fun Land. Mister Mircea Ursuţa , senior ELSA Oradea , lawyer and

faculty teacher was our speaker. The attractive subject brought many people at the Legal Café, our speaker had a really interesting manner of treating the subject and gave us the opportunity to improve our knowledge about this virtual environment. The participants had the chance to interact in a pleasant way, discussing legal problems in an informal meeting and sharing their opinions about the topic. This project was our first activity during this term and it went really good. The flexibility and the spontaneity of this event was the perfect combination and it gave us new forces for the next events. A legal cafe is always welcomed, and when it has the proper subject it’s more than perfect!

The first day finished with a movie night. We chose the movie “Broken city”, because the story was relevant with the topic of the conference. A very interesting story and a good way to end such a great day!

In honor of a successful end of the conference, ELSA Oradea had fun all night attending the “Cocktail party”, the last event of the conference.

We started the next day by visiting the Penitentiary of Oradea, an outstanding experience. The second event for this day was another panel discussion with the topic “The society and mass-media perception about corruption”. Our guests were Miss Claudia Rus – Oradea Court of Appeal, Mr. Octavian Haragoş from Digi 24 and Mr. Adrian Şimon – Prodemocraţia. The pannel discussion ended with a workshop, coordinated by Mr. Mircea Ursuţa.

Finally, the most expected moment of the entire conference had come: moot court competition on criminal law. The guests that composed the panel of judges were Mr. Mircea Ursuţa – lawyer, Mr. Răzvan Doseanu – lawyer and Mr. Alin Văsonan – judge. There were three teams, all of them well prepared, but only one won the competition. Claudiu Popovici, one of the members of the winner team admits that: “It was an opportunity to put into practice the theory. The subject was topical, the corruption being a widespread phenomenon.”

To us, the national conference meant development, devotion, consolidation and accomplishment! We are thankful for the smooth running of things and we just promise more for the next time!

The last day of the conference began with a panel discussion about “Influence peddling in public institutions”. Mr. Răzvan Vesa from DGA and Mr. Cristian Dehelean from RomActiv Business Consulting were our speakers and offered a lot of

Drug Trafficking - National Conference Between the 26th - 28th of March 2015, the National Conference "Drug Trafficking" - second edition took place. The topic was debated from several perspectives, such as psychological, sociological, theological and legal. The purpose of the event was to inform, prevent and educate young people. Also, the main priority for us was to identify the situation of a drug addict and to find out possibilities of how he can be reintroduced into the society, although he is seen as an outlaw. Our major contributors to this event will be N.A.A (A.N.A), Blue Cross Sibiu, which is a nongovernmental organization that aims to provide specialized assistance to those suffering from alcoholism or other addictions and their families, Nartea Partners Law Office and of course, "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu. We made an intense promotion not only in schools and high-schools but in universities as well, in order to bring more young people and students.

At the end of the highschool, I didn’t know exactly what Faculty of Law to attend (in terms of geography, of course), but I definitely knew that I wanted to join ELSA. So, as soon as I became a member of it, I fully dedicated myself to the Seminars&Conferences department, the one that enabled me to become its Vice-President in the current ELSA, and the one I got very attached to, also because of my Smart and Confident team mates. This department helped me to know myself better, to improve my organisational skills, to meet new people and to live the student life in a beautiful and different way! Joining ELSA was the best decision I’ve made!”

Romanians Convicted Abroad - Pannel Discussion Interested in understanding and finding out more about the real problems of nowadays Romanian society, the Seminars&Conferences department of ELSA Suceava organised on the 26th of November 2014, the Panel Discussion entitled ”The Romanians convicted abroad”. We had 4 speakers invited: two lawyers, a prosecutor and a judge. This subject was treated from two different perspectives: -the first one was based on the Criminal Law and the convictions of the Romanian citizens in foreign prisons; -the second one regarded the social aspect, more specifically, the conviction of the majority of them to live;

far from the native country, in order to provide a better life for the persons who stayed home, with the consequences which arise from this. The event itself meant a real interaction between speakers and participants, and we are more than satisfied that it took place!

It was called „Freedom of expression-between right and responsibility”, that took place on the 5th of March 2015.

an abuse citing the freedom of expression for at least once in their lives. The second part of the event worked upon two real cases dealing with the abuse of the media and citing the freedom of expression, too.

There were six speakers invited: two lawyers, three journalists and the comissioner/ spokesperson of the Suceava Police Inspectorate. This theme was analysed in terms of the subsequent law fields, taking into account the fact that the right of expression is a fundamental one. After this, the journalists talked about how this right can influence their careers and if they made ELSA România • Bvd. Furthermore, the event itself had shown the audience that the actual context should determine us to feel lucky, knowing that our opinions don’t cost any duresses, comparing to the freedom of expression in the communist period.

After this event, as a moral, everybody agreed that everyone has this right to express oneself freely, but with the responsibility not to infringe on someone else’s freedom.

Violence against women – Legal Café understanding of this current phenomenon. The event tackled all the types of violence: physical, mental, spiritual, financial, sexual, verbal, and was possible thanks to our two speakers: a very known lawyer who talked about the domestic violence against women, and a commissioner of Suceava Police who taught us how to prosecute the aggressor in such cases.

On the 2nd of April 2015, the Seminars and Conferences department of ELSA Suceava organized a Legal Café called “Violence against women” which aimed a more detailed

Moreover, they came up with relevant examples to illustrate the topic of discussion, which led to a clear understanding of what should be done to prevent and combat this terrible and widespread phenomenon.

Mădălina Pop Vice President of Seminars&Conferences ELSA Târgu Mureş 2014/2015 “For me, ELSA is more than an association. ELSA is the family that gives me the opportunity to shape and develop myself, it is the place where i feel like HOME, surrounded by friends, sharing common interests and working side by side to create successful events and projects. The Seminars and Conferences department gave me the opportunity to change myself completely, to work with an absolutely wonderful team, to develop my skills and to learn how to coordinate a group of different people but with identical purposes. It gave me more opportunities than the educational system itself, a practice that i can't get enough of, that yields true professional and personal developements but only with dedication and devotion. The most important thing that i learned during this time is that if you change yourself you will change your world. If you change how you think then you will change how you feel and what actions you take, thus slowly changing the perspectives in your world.”

Study Visit ELSA Târgu-Mureş - ELSA Sibiu The first day we met the group of five students from ELSA Sibiu and then spent the rest of the day together, familiarizing ourselves with each other.

Between the 14th - 16th of November 2014, the Seminars&Conferences department of ELSA Târgu Mureș organized the bilateral study-visit with ELSA Sibiu. What represented this event for ELSA Târgu Mureș? What we aimed for and even achieved was an exchange of experience between the two local groups, managing to create activities that have developed professional, cultural and social ties.

The next day we followed the academic program that included the institutional visit to the local police (where we were presented various means by which this institution exerts its authority) and then with the help of Professor Nicolae Ploesteanu we presented them the headquarters of Petru Maior University. Closing the academic program, we spent the afternoon in a relaxed atmosphere visiting the city’s attractions, finishing the day with a student party. Considering that the Study-visit was a real success, we hope that in future we will take part in as many similar experiences as this.

Lecture on the New Horizons of the Judicial System Among the many events organized by our department, the lecture entitled “New horizons of the judicial system” had a great importance for the law students of our University. At this activity we invited Mrs. Obreja Viorica, in the present a lawyer, ex judge who, in the first part of the speech, presented us her professional activity which consisted in 25 years of practicing the magistrate career. Afterwards the event, our guest talked about the

entrance examinations in the legal professions,

www.elsa.ro office@elsa.ro about the differences between the lawyer and the magistrate profession, and about the advantages and disadvantages of being a magistrate. The most anticipated point by the 30 law students gathered at the event was the free talk with our guest. The feed-back was an assertive one to this event

too. The special guest felt very comfortable in the presence of students and the audience was impressed with the lawyer’s experience. Due to this fact, we made the decision to carry out a second part of the event because there is still a lot to discover about the legal professions and the guest earnestly stated that she wanted to come again.

Judicial Cafe

Another remarkable event that happened on the 3rd of March 2015 and which can be included on the international topic “Media Law” of the IFP week was The Judicial Cafe “The protection of the personal data”.

Held in a pleasant environment, the meeting had as a special guest Mr. Hodoş Raul Felix, specialist in the juridical domain and Mr. Adam Mihai Gergely, specialist in the IT domain. They approached this topic from two different perspectives, meanwhile the young students approached them with questions in a free manner. During the discussion, the main topics disputed were about the importance of the security of our personal data on the socializing networks and also the Big Brother law. The event had a positive impact among both the participants and guests who have expressed the desire to return in the ELSA family, to a new activity.

Asineta Cătinean Seminars&Conferences Newsletter Coordinator Member of Seminars&Conferences ELSA Târgu Mureş 2014/2015 “I’m formed from a soul glimpse: past, present, and future; not from thrown words, because “verba volant”. I am what I want to be because I can take hundreds of shapes in the eyes of those who watch me, but until then I wish I can prove myself that I deserve to take part in a FAMILY like ELSA. Hand in hand with them I will affirm myself. I choose not to live in the past and I consider that what is passed shouldn’t label me. But today I can decide for my future, controlling my present. And today I feel that my present has to be ELSA. I am not flippant, but I love taking what’s the best of this tragicomedy named “life”. I love considering myself the main actor of this play and ELSA is the background soundtrack. Therefore, I don’t allow myself to make compromises. In order to be the best, I have to choose what’s suitable at this point of life. Being a law student at the early stages, nothing can develop me better than a real law student organization like ELSA, in particular the S&C department.”

ELSA Day - By Giving You Receive So, armed with good mood and cheerfulness, and of course the holy boxes of mercy, we started by performing the first step: Spread our vision toward the determination of many to donate for this little angels, a plague of joy out of generosity, we could say.

Have you ever asked yourself how your life would’ve been up until this moment, not taking into consideration the indicators that led it down this road? If out of this indicators, family for example wouldn’t have been anything but a blank space in your daily journal? With all those in mind, law – like we study it, does only show us just the formal part of things, above their human aspect, essentialized through the vivid living of de facto condition. Because of this, us ELSA Timisoara, through our Seminars and Conferences Department, noticed the need for transposition, and therefore, what better time we could find other than ELSA Day – a time when our vision would transcend beyond the colorful banners, through actions, in the tangible world, a day in which, the little ones, the less fortunate, would be touched by this vortex we call the ELSA SPIRIT.

Step 2: Easy to understand is that, once with all the boxes full of gathered items, and with our gifted monetary mercyness in hold,we shifted our wheels, towards ONISIM foster house. Step 3: Together with the victims made in Step 1 and prompted by the success of Step 2, we spent an unforgettable time with the little ones, with whom, full of enthusiasm, we danced, sang, painted each other, with and mostly without intent, we played, recited … till the end we had a great time. Although ELSA Day was more than one day worth of hard working, the time we spent with those children made us forget all about the effort – and, being people who study law, we felt the justice floating through the air in our ELSA Timisoara family, closely linked to the love of those little muffins with big smiles plastered on their faces.; - things which a Smart&Creative family gave it for free and from the bottom of it’s heart along with a ticket which says "WE CARE!".

www.elsa.ro office@elsa.ro don’t set yourself too comfortable as for certain, you, at some point felt alike. Maybe during finals, maybe due to the amount of workload in connection with responsibility you have had, but, like anyone of us, reaching a top point of our endurance regarding professional life, must had stroke somehow. So, in order to disconnect from current events, our team proposed the law students in Timisoara to review some options for Work and Travel. The event was a hitch, as you might expect, from a crowd, who’s expected to store a pot of minimum 500 pages for one exam only. Speaking out loud about this, we’ve been thrilled to hear our students, along with their experience, and what experiences! To mix the passion for tales with mystery we opened our audience’s appetite with offers for USA, and Europe also, and to top it off, the

second part of the meeting consisted in Erasmus opportunities for study throughout Europe, a

presentation which was made by one beautiful student of ours also. We look forward to these sort of meetings, as with the last experience, we want to get in touch: with, for and through the individuals, that the nature of these meeting in themself, stands as: a motivation, a path and a purpose all together.

Study Visit ELSA Timişoara - ELSA Cluj-Napoca Sharing experiences, here in ELSA, we feel, and the past has proven it as the upmost important part of the whole ELSAcian process, which ensures it it’s special features. So, as known, we, as other local groups, organised study visits opened for applicants throughout Romania, basically anywhere an ELSA burreau is established and functional.

During this event we had the pleasure to not only spend quality time together within a quality environment, but also to come together as a family, as a whole (although in a much smaller part than the big, european ELSA family). As a vivid group, full of ELSA spirit mentioned above, that embodies our deepest and purest desire to bring everyone and make it an elsacian, we created an agenda full of events that not only drawn our guests in Cluj energy dry, but also replaced it with new batteries. Academic events had their place on our agenda, and as anyone present at that time can confirm, they are overfilled with useful professional resources,

Alex Pandi Seminars&Conferences Newsletter Coordinator Member of Seminars&Conferences ELSA Timişoara 2014/2015 “For me ELSA, as law school, is a natural thing to be, an obviously place to work and a huge family to spend my time with. I cannot describe my life without law school, as I cannot describe my law school life without ELSA, they are simply part of my personality, my definition as a human being. I found out about ELSA as soon as I applied for law school, researched every single thing about it, applied, got accepted, and started my journey, it’s that SIMPLE! I am telling you, exactly the thing I told my interviewers 6 months ago: I belong here! – a quite ubiquitous statement, right? They told so too, but now, 6 months later I am writing this, full of joy and pride to represent, only if in writing my best of the best, my Smart&Creative family that I: love, respect and protect. The short stories above are just a glimpse from our work, which made me not only proud of, but also got me even more into what ELSA means, dragging me even more into this, into making the most out of my collaboration with this organization. I wish I can stand, explain and make each law student an ELSAcian, and mostly to make each one see how amazing this experience is (even after half a year), I look forward for that chance, and ‘till then, think about this: you are in ELSA, but how much of ELSA you hold within your thoughts?”

MID IFP Conference “Freedom of Expression” Zagreb 25th-29th November 2014 From parties to visiting the city and surroundings in the evenings. Everything ended with drafting our position in relation to “freedom of expression” where each team had a contribution to a particular sector.

I decided to apply for this conference because I wanted to develop my theoretical and practical knowledge of Human Rights. The subject of “freedom of expression” seemed very attractive and the academic program offered by the organizers of the ELSA Zagreb varied.

The last night coincided with the Gala Ball which was set up by the extraordinary organizing committee, where we exchanged impressions, danced and took part in an extraordinary piano & voice concerto performed by two members of ELSA Zagreb. It was a wonderful experience and I can say that I had gained a lot of experience in terms of academic and social skills also having the opportunity to be surrounded by wonderful people for a week.

The academic program was divided into several topics, supported by speakers from different parts of Europe, from journalists and teachers to lawyers. The conference was a good opportunity to develop my public speaking ability, writing ability and co-operative abilities with other people. We designed it together with the team of which I was part of. Due to the large number of participants (60), we were divided into 6 groups to work easier. After long and exciting academic program, the social program that we had was also very varied.

I encourage ELSA members to participate in international events and also get involved in as many international projects.

Forum on Business & Human Rights Zagreb 25th-29th November 2014

Business & Human Rights Forum was my first experience as a delegate to the United Nations. There I took part in various discussions on different topics divided over 3 days. Throughout this time, I attended plenty of discussions, from children’s rights or climate change affecting business environment to humanitarian issues in the Middle East and so on. I also had the opportunity to meet other four members of ELSA International very dedicated and friendly, with whom I formed a small “family” during that time. At the conference we showed professionalism and talked with various people from some governmental or non-governmental organizations and representatives of various UN member states.

Because the academic program was extended over a period of ten hours every day, the social program consisted of discussions that I had with other members of the delegation about the conference, and still managed to talk about the culture of the country we come from and meet delegates from Russia or Japan. Finally I realized how important this experience as a delegate was and how many things I had learned from it.

I think this kind of projects are unique at the level of ELSA and the members who decide to apply for delegations will have the opportunity to participate in a unique experience that cannot be compared with previous ones.
