Which AWS certification is best for a career beginner? AWS has three levels of certification. There’s the foundational level, the associate level and professional level certification.
Now, if you’re a beginner, (like a complete newbie to AWS) I suggest that you start with the Cloud Practitioner certification. It’s probably the easiest among the certifications you can choose from. They’re optional, but give you the much needed insight into the various domains and services that AWS covers. This certification costs $100.

If you have you have an idea about what domain you want to pursue as a career, I suggest you take up one of the associate level certifications. These don’t require you to have completed the foundational certification, so you can start with them directly. However, these have prerequisites.

AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate: This certification requires you to have one year of hands-on experience with AWS, while having a firm grasp on AWS Services within the compute, networking, storage and database domains. Users also need to know about the global infrastructure of
AWS, how network technologies relate to AWS and how the security tools and features AWS provides, relate to traditional services. The test costs $150 dollars. AWS Certified Developer - Associate: This certification is useful when you want to expand into the Developer domain. This requires you to have a year or more of hands-on experience designing and maintaining an AWS application, having in-depth knowledge about a high level programming language and having a considerable bit of experience with a number of applications written for AWS services. This test costs $150. AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate: This certification requires you to have a year of hands-on experience working with AWS based applications, to provision, operate and maintain systems working on AWS and to define AWS based solutions by identifying and understanding requirements. This test costs $150. Now, let’s go into Professional certifications:
AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional: To get this certification, you need to have completed an associate level certification in that particular domain. Two years or more of hands on experience with AWS, and to provide recommendations on best practices and architectural design based on requirements. This certification costs $300. AWS Certified DevOps engineer - Professional: These require you to have completed the Solution architect or SysOps administrator associate certifications. You’ll need two years of experience working in AWS environments, understand how automation and testing using scripting/ programming works, and so on. This certification costs $300.
