AN official of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has reminded those residing near the epicenter of the magnitude 6 earthquake that jolted Davao de Oro Wednesday to be cautious of structures and tension cracks.
In the Laging Handa briefing Thursday, Phivolcs director Teresito Bacolcol said aftershocks from the earthquake that struck 9 kilometers southeast of the municipality of Compostela may last for days or even weeks.
Bacolcol said Phivolcs is expecting small to moderate aftershocks to occur near the epicenter.
Device vs fake, expired licenses
AS part of the agency’s modernization program, the Land Transpiration Office of Northern Mindanao (LTO-10) is set to digitalize the issuance of traffic citation tickets against traffic violators next week.
Santino Aguilar, LTO10 law enforcement section officer-in-charge, said in a phone interview on Tuesday, Jan. 31, that the Law Enforcement Handheld Mobile Device will be used for issuing electronic Temporary Operators’ Permit (e-TOP) in order to hasten the submission of violators’ details to the LTO system.
Apart from that, the carriers of expired and fake drivers’ licenses have also been warned as the said device can easily detect expired and counterfeit licenses.
Tourism linkages
DAVAO City – Davao Oriental officials have expressed eagerness to link with more strategic associates like Central Luzon (Region 3) and the National Capital Region (NCR) as the province seeks to expand tourism partnerships. Davao Oriental Governor Corazon Malanyaon said the linkages would strengthen the tourism industry, as shown with the province recently hosting a two-day familiarization tour with Central Luzon and NCR tour operators, stakeholders and officials. “This is a great help for our tourism industry as this partnership will surely open a lot of opportunities,” she said.
