MADRID-based offshore wind developer BlueFloat Energy has chosen the Philippines to locate its largest wind energy project.

In a press conference in Makati City on Friday, BlueFloat Chief Executive Officer Carlos Martin said its planned offshore wind energy capacity in the Philippines is about 7.6 gigawatts (GW), which will be divided into four sites with capacities between 1.5 and 3.5 GW.

“We can expect the first of those projects to be in the execution phase and nearing completion by the end of the decade,” he said.

Martin said the company has a total of 32.4 GW of floating offshore wind projects across the globe, and the biggest capacity is eyed to be established in the Philippines.

In the Asia Pacific, BlueFloat plans to put up 6.6 GW offshore wind power each in Taiwan and Australia, and 1.9 GW in New Zealand.

In an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA) at the sidelines of the event, Martin said "there’s a challenge of doubling the production capacity (in the Philippines) within this decade" given the robust growth of the economy.

“In markets like the Philippines, offshore wind can cover new demand. So the growth of the country implies that there is a big growth in the demand of power," he said.

Productive Collaboration for Quality Education

changes they encounter in the delivery of their deliverables. It is clear that being a teacher in today's world means that you have to adapt to the everchanging drifts that are being instigated in the system of the Department of Education.

Consequently, efficient and effective 21st -century teachers know how to work in partnership and function well in a team. As observed in the past years, this significant skill has matured pretty fast in our schools. Learning is believed to be more effective when you can raise your ideas and benchmark from practices of others. Sharing your knowledge and inclinations, connecting and learning from others is are vital elements of a successful teaching and learning process.

Furthermore, successful 21st-century teachers consider the impending future of their learners. They equip themselves of the career opportunities of that their learners have. They tend to give emphasis on how learners be prepared for life, as they put into attention the department’s thrust that “no child is left behind”. In other words, 21st century teaching and learning means doing the things just as you have done in the past years, but with pretty improved means. Today’s teachers really have a great lead; they have potent teaching tools at their reach that are very impossible before. 21st century technology is a chance for students to acquire more skills. Teachers have the power to change from being the sole source of facts to somebody who can facilitate learners of their dreamed future.

Lastly, the 21st century teachers have to utilize teaching strategies that will ensure that the focus of education is preparing learners for life, and not just a mere record of achievement.

For years, the Department of Education has increased its collaboration and partnerships with both public and private sectors to develop programs that are aligned with the department's mission, create connections to respond to learners' needs, and support its programs. With the advent of pandemic, it does not deter the goal of our educational system to deliver better if not the best educational system.

The pandemic time paved way to make the Department of Education work with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to assist the educational sector in delivering the various learning modalities with digital security and continued support to both the learners as well as the educators. This unique synergy of the two departments brought a milestone to the traditional method of teaching into a new light of diversity, bringing technology to each learner’s home and challenging the old-fashioned approach of the teachers’ teaching prowess. It is but true that in time of the Secretary Leonor M. Briones, learning did not falter, indeed, it has its “Learning Continuity Plan” which made the department put its best foot forward despite the challenges of COVID-19.

The Brigada Eskwela is one of the programs that the system is proud of by forming alliances with Local Government Units and gaining community support thru its stakeholders. Our local school, the Misamis Occidental National High School is able to tap the spirit of “bayanihan” among its faculty and gained strong support system from its stakeholders in both local and private entities to deliver its services to the learners to foster and cultivate a strong sense of continuing education amidst pandemic.

The partnerships with various private individuals have aided in the realization of the various projects and programs initiated by the school in support of the DepEd thrusts and priorities. Funds were obtained from several sources to respond to the requirements of the time and situation. Indeed, the initiatives funded by the Brigada Eskwela Program and the expanded collaborations give the MONHS community and stakeholders satisfaction and joy since they have seen the rewards of their labor and efforts. These facilities will be enjoyed not just by the current group of learners, teachers, and stakeholders, but also by their families’ future generations thereby making these initiatives turn into a legacy of providing high-quality education to the students of the Oroquieta City Division and nearby communities.

Every Teacher is a Reading Teacher

By Cecille Joy G. Docdocil Teacher I Aglayan Central School

Every teacher wants their learners develop the love of learning. Definitely, the is the core of our existence above all else as mandated teachers. Teachers want every learner to leave the fourwalled classrooms and search for information on their own. Surely, we cannot presume learners to fall in love with learning if they cannot decode and understand the codes that they are seeing. The skills in teaching reading is still an indispensable tool for every teacher. However, it sad to note that there are studies that found out that not all teachers have the capabilities to teach reading.

WITNESS, AMINODEN D. GURO, Regional Director, LTFRB-Region X, this 2nd day of June 2023 at Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines.

Accordingly, “Every teacher is a reading teacher.” This is not a new trend in education. However, this account is subject for argument today. Some teachers believe that they have to hand over the teaching of reading to teachers in the fundamental years of learning. Moreover, they believe that they need to give emphasis on the competencies and skills distinct to their specializations. However, the truth is that everyone needs to be involved in the process. If you are given the chance to help some learners read, you have the responsibility to help them.

Possibly, there are no fast solutions to the challenges on how to engage learners with reading, but as teachers, we have to be at the avantgarde of the latest ways in addressing engagement in the teaching and mastery of reading whatever possible. Teachers may address reading gaps through integrating literacy exercises and activities in the delivery of their daily lessons. Moreover, they may design strategies that will enhance learners’ motivation in honing their reading skills rather than normally teach content that isolates them from advantaged learners.

Al-Zamir Lipae, DTI9 director, emphasized that trade fairs provide opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to market their products. “By providing a platform for MSMEs to showcase their products, the fair facilitates networking, business opportunities, and market access for local cacao producers,” Lipae said. Nine local and regional cacao growers and processors from the city, Zamboanga Del Sur and Zamboanga Del Norte are showcasing their respective products. “When you say cacao, the public perception is only chocolate, but here you can see all the by-products like the chocolate soap and shampoo,” Aileen Ann Villa-Enriquez, the SM City Mindpro manager, said. Meanwhile, Lipae highlighted the remarkable growth of the cacao industry in the region that is now thriving with over 3,000 stakeholders involved, including farmers, cooperatives, nursery operators, processors, input providers and traders. He noted Zamboanga Peninsula has achieved an impressive production output of 515 metric tons, making it the second-largest national producer of cacao, with a 5 percent share of the national output. The region currently has 1,743 hectares of cacao plantations, making it the fourth-largest area planted with cacao in the country.

Manulife IM Philippines head of equities Mark Canizares said “moderating inflation should be able to provide support to local share prices going into the second half of the year.” “Ratesensitive sectors, such as residential property, will likely benefit from this tailwind,” he said. Canizares said domestic consumption continues to improve as the economy has fully reopened. This, he said, is boosted by the easing of prices “as raw material and other input costs moderate.” “Should the trend of deceleration continue in the second half, the local market’s focus will likely shift to when interest rates will peak and eventually decline,” he said, adding that “lower rates historically help drive a rally in equity markets.” The deceleration of the inflation rate is among the factors on local monetary authorities’ decision to keep the BSP’s key rates steady last month, after hiking it by a total of 425 basis points since May 2022. Some economists forecast the BSP to maintain its current stance unless inflation reverses its path. (PNA) from page 3

Luchangco said the bank led the first energy transition financing through AC Energy, which invested the fund that the bank extended to a renewable energy project and has committed to retire its coal-powered project 15 years early than its allowable period.

“That will take that capacity out of the market. And so it actually helps to reduce coal capacity. And that is a focus for us,” he said.

Luchangco said they could extend financing to corporates so they can transition to the use of LED lights and inverter air-conditioning units, among others.

He said they are also looking at financing energy projects that focus on the use of solar, wind, and biogas.

“We continue to forge in new boundaries and continue to look for activities that we can educate our clients.
