I wake up every morning only to see structures not worthy of being called buildings; to the sight of schools, which lack fundamental humane facilities. I wake up to see the ugly face of humanity. I feel an urge to create spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also fulfil people's needs. It is my little way of delivery humanity the justice it deserves. I recall my high-school Headmaster once telling me, “You can carry out this installation (The Other World), but it must be either beautiful, or technical.” On its completion, he said, ”I asked for one; you gave me both!” Through this portfolio, I have demonstrated my passion to study architecture, and the skill I have acquired over years of practice. After all, I draw inspiration from Le Corbusier who once famously said, “I prefer drawing to talking. Drawing is faster, and leaves less room for lies.”

Done with a Spanish architect from the Oakham School, London
I teamed up with a spanish architect, Zoe Holden, from the Oakham School, London to make designs for a primary school in a local village. The plans included the school to be made with stones available in the locality in order to minimise cost.

BINDAL Floods washed a local slum, in Dehradun, away. The local government wanted to relocate the victims and bought the required land. I proposed designs of two bedroom houses with a kitchen and a toilet. To curb the finances, I proposed that the houses be built using bottle bricks (plastic bottles filled with sand and used instead of bricks resulting in optimum utilization of plastic bottles and meeting the purpose). I also presented 3-D models of the buildings made on Google Sketchup. The government approved the designs.
Final design that was approved by the local government.

Steel bowls and rods with LED light strips.

Art is homogenous. It does not belong to anyone. It does not have a citizenship. This is my attempt to capture the world and the different population densities across the world (represented by the lighting at night). I have drawn inspiration from eminent Indian sculptor Subodh Gupta.
Concept Construction: The materials to be used for the installation were steel bowls of two different sizes and steel rods of two different lengths. Around 850 utensils and rods were gas-welded together. The rods were installed upright into the garden with the utensils at the upper end, almost touching each other (with a distance of 0.51cm. between the utensils). The installation was in the shape of the world map. The length of the rods ranged from 1-3.5 feet, which rose in progression from the bottom to the top of the world map, forming a landscape. Lighting was also be used for the installation, to add the effect for nighttime. The major work was to get the utensils and rods gas-welded together and fixing them on the garden with proper lighting.

SOUND:
Africa and Europe in their first stage.
The original idea was to include sound architecture. Drawing inspiration from Amsterdam based artist Ronald van der Meijs's work Sound Architecture IV I tried to create a rippling sound effect by placing the bowls close to each other. The bowls when moved, physically or by wind, would create a wind chime effect.

Visual Impact during the daytime: The utensils used as the caps for the rods comprised 90% of the visual appearance of the installation. As these utensils were made of steel, the sheen gave the installation a dazzling effect. The reflections from different bowls were symbolic of the varied cultures of the world.
Visual Impact at nighttime: The installation was aimed at showing the night-view of the earth from space; therefore appropriate blue and yellow lighting were used to get the effect. Yellow lights represented the densely populated areas and the rest of the structure will shimmer in blue lights fixed at the periphery.

Example of south America FINAL WORK In the final work, we could bring out the proposed light effect. At night, the installation looked like a floating world map. We could not work out the proposed sound effect as the materials were not flexible enough.

This sculpture is symbolic of the pressure each and every human goes through. His own hands try to pull his brains out, and his own self acts as the rope which strangles him to death. In the sculpture can be seen a human's face which has the face of another human in it trying to do away with himself. The concept of the sculpture was as given below.

All the portraits have been drawn as birthday presents for some friends and family members. It was an exclusive thing including sketches of only 10 people. I chose a good photo of the person and I and tried to imitate it. In some of the sketches, I have extensively used an eraser. The one in colour is a self portrait made in St. Andrews College, Grahamstown, South Africa. I have depicted myself in the form of indian goddess of nature.

DOOM'S DAY This cartoon was my entry for the All India Public School's Conference art competition. It depicts Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi really happy while he eats up the opposition party leaders, namely Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Sitting on Mr. Modi's forehead is the president of the ruling party in India(Bhartiya Janata Party), who is enjoying the whole scene.

Logo Design - Project Done independently
I was asked by my mentor, architect amrik singh to help him design a logo for his NATA classes. I was asked to design a logo with an 'A' and a '+' sign and give him as many designs as I could. For this I looked up the internet for some ideas and gave him these designs. I also made a logo in colour to get a feel of colours on the logo.

The stamp was my entry for a state art competition. It is based on the theme of festivals and my concept was to depict unity (the main purpose of festivals) and I have depicted it by showing stick figures holding hands and I have painted them with varied colours to depict colours.
