Island Report News, events, and happenings around Curaçao... Curaçao attracts Google

Curaçao is excited to be the first Caribbean destination to be independently mapped for Google Street View. The project was spearheaded by radio station Dolfijn FM, the minister of Economic Development, CTB, and CHATA. To show Google why Curaçao deserved to be “on the map” they developed a fun video, and it worked! Google’s interest was sparked and the project was set in motion. The new street view option should be online in early 2018, and local businesses also now get free listings on Google maps. www.curacaoonthemap.com The Curaçao Liqueur experience

Island Report News, events, and happenings around Curaçao... A creative light goes out

It is with much sadness that we report local and well-loved artist, Nena Sanchez, passed away in late 2017, way before her time. She was well known for her beautiful and colorful depictions of island life. For many years Nena was also a great inspiration for budding artists via her workshops and through her work showcased in her gallery as well as around the island and in private collections all over the world. Though her unique style and bubbly personality will be sorely missed, her creative legacy will always live on. Curaçao continues to harness the wind

The massive windmill turbines project called Tera Kora I has been harnessing the everconstant trade winds to produce energy since 1993, and the later project, Playa Kanoa, has since added to the output. Now the Tera Kora II project is complete with an additional five turbines. Curaçao is way ahead of its goal to produce 30 percent of the island’s electricity by 2020. The project was a joint effort by Aspiravi and NuCapital, and the latest step to keep the island humming with renewable energy. Punda Vibes rock Thursdays

Punda comes alive on Thursday nights with a colorful, cultural festival celebrating local food, drink, and the arts. There’s even a pop-up sangria bar! Enjoy live music, folk dancing, an art walk, street theater, arts and crafts, and a special children’s area! And now famous local artist, Serena Israel, invites you to create and paint your own unique Chichi® doll through her special workshops during the event. Delightful! Then top off the electric evening with an explosive fireworks display over the harbor. www.pundavibescuracao.com 12 Nights
